Colours are reminiscent of romantic hillside villages in Provence and Tuscany. It’s contemporary style is enhanced by richly textured baskets, sleek furnishings and designer fabrics featuring proteas and ‘bokkies’ which give the hotel an original handprint and convey its South African roots. Accessories such as wire-work baskets, hand-crafted tiles and decorative light fittings were all made by local artisans.

Very good hotel, large room, huge and comfortable bed, large bathroom, hairdryer and toiletries available. Daily room cleaning and friendly staff. The rooms are around a pool that is big enough to swim lengths.

Breakfast is served in the Magnolia restaurant opposite and offers a large selection of egg dishes, toast, cereal, etc. We felt very comfortable.

The room is spacious and we loved being able to open up the wide sliding doors onto the pool. Large shower, plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Would have liked gowns and slippers. The TV bouquet was very basic. Loved the Nespresso machine. Thought the generous scattering of rose petals on the bed was very romantic.
Downside: the road noise was quite obtrusive at times.
Upside: without a doubt, the staff in both the hotel and Magnolia restaurant. They are incredibly warm and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.

Mangaliso, Tebogo and Nomfundo treated us like we are royalty, the only guests in the hotel for the 2 nights we spent there. Mangaliso went further to advise on activities around White River, booked us the most tasteful dinner at Magnolia and the best massage on the last night. It was a joyful stay. We all really had a great time. Kudos to the hosts & hostess.

I stayed here two nights, separated by about 10 days. The first time it was amazing. The rooms are laid out uniquely, with sliding doors setting off a dressing room, toilet and shower area. Very nice! Rooms are spacious and nicely furnished except for godawful Persian rugs with about 2 threads left in them. A tiny balcony overlooks the pool so you can open the sliding glass doors for air. Food is available next door in the shopping center at Magnolia Restaurant. Service and food was good so I booked a second night when I returned through White River... and had a totally different experience. When I was shown to my room the bed lights and tv were on. I was assured that was just to make the room feel welcoming. I didn't believe that explanation at the time, and even less so when I found cold coffee and grounds in the French press. The tv was on because it couldn't be turned off. The remote wouldn't even let you change channels so I called the front desk and someone came up to show me if you used both hands and pressed very hard you could change to the channel where static totally obscured the picture. When I went to bed I had to find the power button on the tv set in order to turn it off. At check out I turned in the form listing items that needed attention and the woman at the desk just stonewalled me. So... my first stay was terrific, my second changed my mind completely about whether I would ever go back.

Underwhelming for a "boutique hotel". No rooms with baths available after enquiring when we arrived (which we accidentally overlooked when booking), however, if there is only a shower, surely shower caps should be provided on request? None available. The fridge provided is a decent size, but contained no ice, 1 glass and an old gungey plastic bottle of water in the fridge door. Limited bouquet of TV channels, which we couldn't watch because it kept jumping and freezing. The hotel is situated right at a busy intersection, so the noise of trucks and traffic is constant.
The pool looked lovely, but we couldn't use it, being May.
The Magnolia restaurant which is used by the hotel for breakfasts, is a disaster.
We were supposed to stay for 3 nights, but left after 1. We couldn't see the bill, not from our accommodation, nor from our disastrous dinner the night before for some reason, so are not sure whether we were charged for the food we sent back or not. How can you not have an invoice available for customers? You have our card details, so do you just debit whatever you like? Unacceptable! This is NOT what I expected from a boutique hotel. At nearly R4500 a night for bed and breakfast, what you get is iniquitous!

Booked through our tour operator turisanda as a stop on a longer trip. Large and functional room, as is the bathroom, even if it lacks mixers (which is very common in South Africa). Structure and rooms for me to modernize. Cleanliness to improve. Magnolia restaurant connected to the hotel not really attentive to cleanliness. Average breakfast, but very approximate dinner (I must point out, however, that these were dinners paid for and offered by our tour operator)

My husband and I spent a night at Casterbridge in early December. We were quite shocked that a hotel of that purported quality should be so disappointing. First of all, I would like to mention that the staff were very helpful and when we complained about the dark room with a view of the carpark, a horrible shower cubicle, filthy pillows, no air conditioning etc., they speedily changed our room to one with a view of the pool. But the room was just as bad, shower just as scruffy and the pillows just as rank. I asked at reception if they could please let us have clean pillows, not covered in nasty stains, but housekeeping was closed as it was after 17.00. I had to put a towel over the pillow in order to sleep. We stayed in South Africa for 16 nights and this was the only hotel where we had a problem. I would also like to mention that the restaurant, Magnolia, was very good. We had an excellent dinner and breakfast was top class. Pity about the rooms.

I stayed at this property for two nights. The breakfast was decent and the restaurant for dinner was pretty good but very slow. The cookies and brownies in reception were delicious! The pool was interesting, but not very inviting looking. The Wi-Fi worked well the air conditioning did not which is a common problem I found in South Africa. There is a half empty mall next-door with a few restaurants, stores, a gin store and an open air gym. The big windows facing the pool allow you to feel like you are sitting at the pool with the guests as you can hear them very clearly. The rooms are big. There is not much to do in the white river area so I would skip it, but this is a decent place to stay for a night if you need to.

Good day, Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed the brownies, it is a favourite. We apologise if the restaurant service was a bit slow, all our food is made fresh and this usually requires some time to prepare. It is unclear from your review if the aircon was reported to reception, but we would have gladly sent maintenance to look at it or moved you to a different room if needed. With regards to "things to do", the reception would have been able to assist with any number of activities in the area surrounding White River. The adjacent centre also has 2 museums as well as a cinema in addition to various little stores. I hope you were able to visit some of these. We do however hope you enjoyed your stay with us.

It was an amazing pleasure to stay at this hotel! Everything was perfect! Our room was extremely elegant and comfy, equipped with everything we may need. It is surrounded by the field, so it is really quiet. The restaurant affiliated to the hotel was exceptional! The food was of top quality and variety and the staff extremely kind and professional. I highly recommend this place and will surely come back one day!

Our room was very clean, spacious and comfortable. Staff was friendly, professional and helpful. Magnolia restaurant treated us to suberb breakfasts and delightful dinners. We enjoyed browsing around the automobile museums and quaint shops is the lifestyle centre. We really enjoyed our stay!
