We visited this place in 2010 on a previous visit to the area and held positive memories. The place has a new owner, but the same excellent level of service. Since the manager was on holiday, we were welcomed by Craig and three friendly dogs. The cottage was in a good state and clean. An breakfast menu that varied every day and gave us a good start for the day. A small swimming pool and honesty bar. Very friendly and helpful staff. They also book excursion for guests and Craig told me he is a licensed guide himself. Because of load shedding (power cuts) some of the nights were not so comfortable in the hot and humid climate without power to keep on the air conditioning, but power cuts happen everywhere in Kwazulu Natal and there is nothing our hosts could do about them. Overall we had a very relaxing stay.

Dear Will, Thank you so much for your lovely review of our guesthouse, I am pleased that you enjoyed your time in St Lucia again. Hope you are enjoying the rest of your travels. At least loadshedding has been put on hold for a while. :-) We hope to see you again in the future. Best wishes, Bonita, Craig & the friendly dogs.

We enjoyed our stay. Bonita was a helpful, friendly host. Room was clean and pleasant with clean towels daily. We were able to swim and braai. We experienced extremely hot weather during our visit to St Lucia. Fortunately the rooms have air conditioning. Just the breakfast area has no air conditioning which made it a bit uncomfortable.

Dear Martin And Marleen, Thank you for the lovely review, I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay and St Lucia. The dining room area does have aircon, I just couldn't turn it on during loadshedding which was from 08h00-10h00. :-(. My apologies. I hope to welcome you back in the future. Best Wishes, Bonita

Property: Parkers Cottages
Location: St Lucia
Stay duration: 4 Nts at the start of the holiday in June and 1Nt at the end
Tour Provider: TailorMadeSafaris.co.za
Other places stayed on this trip: Isomangaliso, Leopard Mountain, Ithala Game Reserve, Thonga Beach Lodge and Tembe Elephant Park.

Firstly I should apologies to the Parkers team for the lateness of this review…no poor excuses just too many distractions!

Ours was an unusual trip this year, my wife and I were out to visit our son who is studying South Africa on a three year Advanced Nature Guiding and Wildlife Conservation course but to further add to the complication we were bringing my parents and our daughter and her partner, in addition we were meeting up with our sons girlfriend; so the party dynamic was "very interesting". We all had arranged to all stay together in St Lucia and then my parents would go off to see the Battle Fields, the Drakensberg Mountains and Durban before joining up again for the last day and the homeward flight.

Unfortunately Swiss Air let us down badly by cancelling our flight from Zurich to Johannesburg resulting in a one night stay in Zurich which meant we missed our flight from Jo-burg to Richards Bay. This resulted in a further night in an airport hotel in Jo-burg and so we also missed our connecting flight and one of our four nights at Parkers. This gave Nick of Tailor Made Safaris extra stress (although he covered it well), my parents lost one of only 5 nights that we were supposed to be all together with their grandson!…and we are still chasing compensation from Swiss four months later!

Back to the review in hand; in needed of a starting point and a base for our activities in St Lucia, Tailor Made Safaris recommended we go for Parkers Cottages. The location was perfect, just a short walk through the park takes you to the main street with ample evening and lunch dining opportunities. There are plenty of shops including a well-stocked Spa convenience store, a photography shop as well as many opportunities to get clothing and trinkets to take home.

The accommodation consists of one double room in the main building, a double in a separate block and a larger block consisting of two more doubles, one with another twin off which would be ideal for those traveling with kids or dependants who may need assistance. It is all very comfortable, tranquil, clean and provides everything necessary for a resting stop including a great breakfast.

Craig the owner is always on hand to ensure a good and comfortable stay and Austin the cat is always about and keen for a bit of love and attention. Austin is mentioned many times in these hallowed pages and I am not quite sure how Craig feels about coming in second fiddle to a cat when considering all his hard work!

The breakfasts are hearty with ample choice and again Craig is on hand to assist and offer alternative choices for those who need them as well as excellent local knowledge and some great banter.
We needed extra blankets and they were made available to us immediately, Lynn loves Earl grey tea and that was there. The attention to detail for a small operation like this gives a home away from home feeling which is very nice.

I think the only niggles are the noise from the cooling unit in our room fridge but that’s easily fixed. And the coolness of our bathroom. I should explain that the weather was very cold at night while we were in St Lucia and the large extract fan in the bathroom creates a draft noticeable after exiting the shower or bath. This is very hard to change and importantly, I am sure is a big advantage in the summer; I cannot therefore count this as a negative.

St Lucia surprised us with the vast array of activities that are available which meant that we could have been completely occupied for two weeks there had we had the stamina to do all that was on offer.

All in all, a very nice stay was had with great memories... Would we stay here again?....I have already booked for a short stay to see our son again in November, so yes absolutely!

We had a great few days in St Lucia enhanced by our time at Parkers Cottages. The new owner, Craig, was a combination of very helpful and laid back and went out of his way to make sure our St Lucia experience was top. Added to that was a spacious cottage, huge bathroom, outside space, good location and some delicious breakfasts.

Honestly, ST Lucia would never be a choice as a holiday destination because its a bit of work to get to it from the UK...BUT I am truly glad we came here. Best is to fly to Jhb, then to Durban and grab a hire car and drive for 2.5 hrs to St Lucia... Then go and find Parkers Cottages. Superb, clean and very spacious accommodation. Great pool, brilliant bar(runs on the honesty system... Really!!!! Does that still exist in today's day and age? It does at Parkers), great outside BBQ/Braai area. This all leads to a very relaxed environment. We were constantly surprised by the little touches. A jug of fresh milk in the fridge when we arrived. A bottle of wine because we had told Craig it was a special occasion. Our laundry washed and ironed for £7 a load. Funnily the thing I enjoyed the most was the surprise breakfasts in the morning. I won't say more as the pleasure is in the discovery but I will say each brekkie was brilliant and I consider myself a strictly full English breakfast kind of guy. I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. I come away from here having seen some wildlife, gone to one of the best unspoilt beaches in the world. I am already planning on when to come back. I cannot recommend Parkers highly enough

What a great guest house! We had a wonderful week here and then changed our plans, in order to stay longer...

The room was spacious and beautifully decorated, extremely comfortable and the bathroom was massive! Our cottage had an extra bedroom (perfect for kids), which was a lovely surprise when we arrived.

it was so wonderful to be able to sit in garden and relax... The breakfasts were fantastic, each day is a surprise - so something to look forward to... Craig and his staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Craig is passionate about South Africa, and made some great recommendations for things to see and do...

There's a fantastic indoor lounge, private bar and outdoor bbq area at the pool - great for socialising in the evenings if you don't feel like eating out. It feels like home away from home...

The area is extremely safe, and I felt comfortable walking on my own down to the main street, through the park... The locals are friendly & happy to chat!

The laundry service was really good value for money and we got our clothes back within a few hours (washed AND ironed!). Loved the cat!

I would highly recommend staying here. we WILL be back :)

Stayed in Fisherman's Cottage for three nights on a package with night safari and river trip included. The cottage was clean and beautiful, a home away from home. Enjoyed sitting on the terrace with the cat, watching the stars and listening to the frogs and bush-babies. Sian and Andrew were excellent hosts - informative, friendly and helpful with a wealth of local information. Breakfast was tasty, perfectly cooked and plentiful.

Best of all were the two tours - we were lucky enough to spot a leopard at close quarters on the night safari and the hippos were magnificent on the river boat trip. I've travelled in many countries and I can honestly say this is one of the best places I have ever stayed in. Treat yourself, and go explore the fantastic Isimangaliso park on your doorstep.

St Lucia is racked out with places offering B&B, but Parkers Cottages - in the new hands of Craig - is still up there with the best. Staying for 5 nights in Fisherman's Cottage, we felt instantly at home, enjoying a lot of R&R after a superb Hluhluwe-Imfolozi adventure. There is so much to do in the region and Craig is ideally placed and well-connected to advise and organise activities. Breakfasts were superb and varied daily, with specialities coming from the kitchen that just blew your taste buds away! A pool, good book-stock and freedom to roam the completely safe St Lucia neighbourhood make Parkers Cottages an ideal, laid-back base from which to explore. A highly recommended B&B, centrally placed in a laid-back community. What better?
