The location was in walking distance from the shops, restaurants and even the boat jetty for boat tours.

Reception was friendly and helpful.

I was pleasantly surprised with the tented accommodation. It even came with a ‘roof’ fan to speculate the air.

The ablution facilities were clean.

I liked the kitchen layout, never felt crowded.

The pool area was relaxed, with a clean pool.

I would recommend it for the budget-conscious person that just wants a place to sleep and cook their food.

I love that the birds wake you in the morning and that it feels that you are in nature, the tented rooms are very well equiped. Only recommendation would be to rather return the kettles to the tented rooms. The pods and Dolce machine restricts one to the two pods. I rather enjoy having coffee early morning, so now one has to dress to go to the communal kitchen area to make that cup. The two pods are already used the evening before.

A very peaceful place with nice staff. Luxury tents are amazingly spacious and clean. You will really feel safe and at ease. The shared kitchen area is also very clean and you will have everything you need to cook.

We were in a party of 3 families, with kids ranging from 4 to 14 years old. There is only a swimming pool and pool table in the backpackers area in terms of kids activities. This is not stated on the website.

Rooms / Tents were well appointed and very comfortable. Considering the amount of rain that we had, and with the tents not leaking at all, they are clearly of a very high build quality.

With this venue being a self catering location, the fridge space in the room is too small. There is no freezer space and no ice is available on the premises. There are no ovens to cook with and braai areas are not covered, so in the rain there is no option to cook food with other than to use the gas hob in the kitchen area. Kitchen utensils were not of the highest quality although the kitchen was clean and adequately appointed.

Electricity supply to the kitchen area kept on tripping.

The big disappointment however was the noise coming from the building next door, which was a water pump that kicked in every minute for 20 or 30 seconds at a time and was very noisy!! This was not heard on the first 2 nights due to the rain, which was very peaceful, but was a total irritation on the next week when the weather was clear.

Response from Henre Venter, General Manager at Urban Glamping
Responded 04 May 2021
Hi Chris. Thank you for the fair review. We are planning to upgrade the braai facilities to accommodate for rainy days. You are actually the first guest to comment on no oven, so thank you for that. We will definitely look into getting some ovens. Unfortunately the tent kitchens do not allow for larger fridges/freezers. We do however have a box freezer available and I am pretty sure that my staff did offer it to be used by you. As far as the water pump is concerned, I wish you brought it to our attention sooner, as I have addressed this with the owner of the Wimpy in the past and he was very accommodating by turning it off at night.

I stayed in the female dorm for 2 nights. The dorm was small and extremely hot. There were just 2 fans which did very little to alleviate the 25+c night time temperatures. There were large lockers provided which were very useful but besides this there was no where to put anything and the room was too small for 6 people. It also lacked the basics of a wastepaper bin and mirror.
The rule of no noise after 10pm was not enforced at all, with people still making noise around the pool area long after 11pm and noise starting again from 7am. There also didn't seem to be any staff around to deal with this when the reception was closed and as the dorm is close to the pool area, the noise easily carried to the room.
The hostel could also do with clearly explaining some basic etiquette of staying in a dorm to their guests as some seemed to think it was ok to come in in the middle of the night, switch the light on and have normal conversations. This is of course a problem in general with dorms but they could make some effort to inform people of basic courtesy.
The bathrooms were cleaned daily however got very dirty over the course of the day, with overflowing bins and no toilet paper. It seems that when they are this busy they need to monitor the bathrooms more often than once a day.
Unfortunately however there are no comparative options for the same budget in the area which is maybe why they can continue to offer a below par experience. If budget is the main concern then this is the cheapest place in town however if you value comfort then I would not recommend this place.

I really liked the set up of the communal area, 2 swimming pools brain (bbq) area and cooking facilities.
I stayed in a 2 person tent which was comfortable and clean, it was just very hot as the fan in the tent is not great.
I would definitely recommend at least 1 stay

The stay was good over all, however we did face a issue of electricity tripping in our tent from the time of arrival ie 13th Dec. With a workaround done by the maintenance team 13th dec night was fine. However the same issue persisted on 14th Morning. In complaining again in 14th Morning, we were told by the management ie the owner the issue was resolved. However to our surprise issue was not resolved. The management told us that we can vacate the tent and we will be given a full refund. This was not a customer centric approach. Which is the reason I am not willing to rate my experience as very good.

We a young couple, who enjoys adventure and so we had a good stay at this place. We were at the luxury suits and for a luxury tent we'd recommend you atleast put an aircon cause you already have electricity in the cabins and maybe a small television or radio cause some of us want to keep up with the latest news in our private space. So now if you want Tv you have to go to the common lounge which was noisy. The heat in the tent is horrible and the fan just blows warm air so an aircon is really a need, otherwise everything was good and my partner and i enjoyed our tranquility time.

We spent one night in st lucia while exploring the.northen coast and boy what a pleasant surprise. Urban glamping luxury tents are clean, comfortable and affordable and set in the most beautiful junglr forest setting. Surrounded by magnificent trees in the middle.of town. Restaurants are in walking distance. Self catering facilities are available. I will definitely return for a longer stay. The staff are friendly and helpful.

This was by far the best and safest spot in kzn. While everybody in our hometown Toti were living in fear we went on long walks and runs in St Lucia

Urban glamping st lucia have the most comfortable beds that we have ever slept in. The communial kitchen and different places to braai or eat was also very well equipped. They uphold a very high standard. We will be back next year.
