Detailed Reviews
We have staied four nights in this marvellous b & b, located in the small village of St Lucia and enclosed in a charming tropical garden. The site is enchanting, guests are housed in chalets hidden by plants, elegantly designed and equipped, and have a small swimming pool at their disposal. Breakfast is served in an Africacan style lounge, and is offered with a great kindness. The owners, Adrian and Marie, are extremely helpful and thoughtful about the well being of their guests. I highly recommend this place, and St Lucia itself, a pearl of the Qwazulu Natal. We have seen much of South Africa, but this place, with its varied charms, and as much as 5 ecosystems, is unrivalled. The Kwalucia Private Safari Retreat offers the perfect abode for a fabulous region.

Dearest Patrizia. Firstly we want to thank you for taking the time to write us this amazing review. We really missed your smiling faces the first morning after you departed. We trust you had a great time in Kruger? Despite your not feeling very well, you were enjoying your time and experiencing some of the wonderful things St Lucia has to offer. We are super happy that you felt spoilt, then we know: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! Please do visit us again one day, but until then, we wish you all of the best. With lots of love from Adrian & Marie

We spent single night at the Kwalucia Safari Retreat in May 2021 and would highly recommend it to anyone. In fact, were we to do it again, we would spend 2 or 3 nights there. Adrian and Marie were superb hosts - they were very friendly, accommodating and informative. The retreat itself is located on a very quiet side street only a few steps away from the center of town where the bars and restaurants are located. The inside of the retreat is a beautifully maintained tropical garden. The room was spacious, clean, well tended, beautifully designed and well appointed. Marie went out of her way to prepare an incredibly delicious picnic breakfast for us as we left very early to iSimangaliso Wetland Park. The park really requires a minimum of 2 full days to visit comfortably, and ideally 3 to spend some time at the beach. You will not be disappointed if you include Kwalucia Private Safari Retreat as your accommodation while in St. Lucia.

Dearest Eric & Anette. It is very nice reading your lovely review. Thank you. We are very fortunate to stay in this secluded paradise! You don't even know you're in the middle of the village. Thank you again for staying with us for the 1 night! And YES, you are so right, you definitely need at least 3 nights to just touch the tip of everything there is to do here! Hopefully we'll see you again one day. But until then, we wish you all of the best. Lots of love. Adrian & Marie

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
We spent 2,5 weeks travelling around in South Africa and while we stayed in numerous fancy hotels, lodges and guesthouses - this was definitely at the top of my list. The design of the rooms, cleanliness and you could really feel that personal touch. But all of that paled in comparison to the genuine hospitality of the hosts who served us an excellent dinner and even helped us in setting up a delightful beach day in addition to all of the recommendations and helpful tips they kindly shared thorought our stay. I really could not ask for anything more and I can highly recommend Kwalucia to anyone looking to visit St Lucia.

Kwalucia is perfectly located a short walking distance from the main street with all its restaurants. The owners, Adrian & Marie, did not spare any efforts to make our stay enjoyable. They surprised us every morning, during our four night stay, with a large variety of servings, different combinations of fruits, fresh squeezed juices, and newly baked cakes. They also took care of the bookings for the activities & excursions we performed, of which deep sea phishing was the most exciting. Planing for a day at the beach, you are provided with umbrella, beach chairs and cooling box with cold water. I can strongly recommend staying here!

Dearest Pelle, Margareta, Ingvar & Louise. What a lovely review, and surprise to read this heartwarming comment during our lockdown! Thank you dearly for this! We loved having you for the 4 nights you spent with us. We look forward to your returning and hopefully fishing again, but this time, you keep your own fish, so we can prepare a nice dinner for you! Ha ha ha.... Have a wonderful day and keep safe in the times we are experiencing currently. With lots of love from Adrian & Marie.

This place is truly remarkable, and we can't wait to return. Our stay here left us delighted for several compelling reasons.
To begin, our room was exquisitely decorated with a keen attention to even the smallest details. The aroma, in particular, was thoughtfully considered. The room featured a cozy bathtub complete with a bathtub tray and candles, and the sink was adorned with a charming hippo motif. Essential amenities like gels, shampoos, body lotions, cotton swabs, and pads were thoughtfully arranged by the sink, ensuring our comfort. Even the bed, something we're quite particular about, proved wonderfully comfortable. While we didn't watch much TV, we did enjoy the soothing local and classical music on the radio. Furthermore, the room was thoughtfully stocked with tea, coffee, and delightful snacks.
Secondly, we owe a significant part of our exceptional St. Lucia experience to the owner, Adrian. His guidance and assistance made our entire South African journey unforgettable. Adrian meticulously planned our activities, and as a result, we had the privilege of taking a boat tour to observe hippos. What made this experience stand out was the intimate setting with only a handful of fellow tourists and an exceptionally knowledgeable guide, unlike the crowded boats we observed elsewhere. Our guide even treated us to some unexpected sights. The following day, we embarked on an ocean fishing expedition with just five of us aboard. It turned out to be a stroke of luck as we enjoyed an incredible 3.5-hour session of whale watching, leaving us with countless treasured photos and videos of these majestic creatures. As a bonus, I even reeled in a substantial tuna, which Adrian ensured was expertly prepared at a local restaurant. The freshness of the tuna made it a truly unique and delectable experience. Adrian also offered invaluable recommendations regarding restaurants, local markets, and additional excursions. The warm and attentive hospitality of Adrian and Marie left a lasting impression on us.
Lastly, the breakfasts served at the establishment were nothing short of superb. In the evenings, guests could gather in the hall for drinks and music, with a selection of books and photo albums available for those who wished to explore. For those interested, a charming little pool added to the ambiance, its evening illumination enhancing the overall experience.
Our wholehearted recommendation is that you don't hesitate to book a stay at this extraordinary place.

Our three last days after two weeks in SA. It cannot be described what we found: two outstanding hosts, great breakfast (a homemade was on our bed for next morning's 4am safari trip), rooms with authentic local details, a garden, plants and trees grown up over several years and naturally maintained, a refreshing pool, harmonic sitting areas in- and outside, a place totally safe, and much more. Marie's kitchen and organizational talents are top, Adrian's care and help offered unmet. Simply put, a paradise physically and emotionally. We will be back!

+1
We spent 5 amazing nights at the Kwalucia. Our friends recommended that we stay here, due to their previous visit. Adrian and Marie were wonderful hosts. I had emailed and told them all the activities that we wanted to do. On the drive to St. Lucia, I had an email telling me that my Turtle Tour would start at 5. On arrival, they had most of my activities already scheduled based on the weather. Marie's breakfasts were amazing. She loves to bake and it shows. Adrian would always tell us the weather for the day and give us tips on where to go and what to do with our free time. Marie packed us a great breakfast for one of our early morning excursions. The rooms have beach towels for us to use for our excursions, and Adrian would grab a cooler for us, when needed. Our room always had fresh milk in the little frig for us to drink along with sodas. The Kwalucia has 3 suites on the property. The plants and trees are amazing. I was soo surprised by how big the property was. Pictures do not do it justice. I can't wait to go back again.

My wife and I travel extensively and have never encountered the above and beyond level of service that Adrian and Marie provide. You will feel like old friends have invited you to stay at their unique estate. The large, comfortable rooms are uniquely decorated to guarantee a one of a kind African experience complete with a French press and a very reasonably priced laundry service. But Adrian and Marie will make your stay unforgettable with their warm hospitality. They seem to know everyone in town as they arranged tours for us, checked on restaurant hours for us and when my wife left her phone on a tour operator’s safari vehicle, Adrian was on the phone immediately to talk with the owner who found the phone quickly. Adrian then hurried out into a cold, rainy, windy night to retrieve the phone for my wife. Amazing. Amazing is also a good description for the packed breakfast they will provide if you want to get an early start. I am sure we will remember our wonderful stay here for years to come.

Kwalucia really is the most fantastic place to stay.
Four beautifully decorated and unique private rooms set in a tropical garden with swimming pool.
But what really makes Kwalucia so special are your hosts Adrian and Marie. They will make it their business to ensure you enjoy your stay and their hospitality is exceptional. Make use of their well researched local knowledge on all things St Lucia and follow their advice for local trips and activities which they will happily book for you in advance. A trip us stream to see the hippos is a must.
Just be warned, if you are watching your weight Marie’s breakfasts are awesome and you won’t want to leave the table.
We could not have had a better time and having been in the summer hope to come back for a winter visit in the not too distant future.

We stayed in March 2020 for 3 Nights. This is the most enjoyable place we‘ve ever been. The rooms are incredible, the breakfast delicious and the garden makes you truly feel like you are in paradise. Wild chamaeleons, squirrels, birds and beautiful trees. Adrian and Marie are helping with all needs, Cooler, Snorkelgear, Sunchairs and Umbrella for the beach, assistance with booking of activities etc.
We loved the place and Adrian and Marie so much that we are planing already to go back asap.
