We stayed one night in May 2019 on our way to Sabi Sand and loved it so much that when we had time to drive the panorama route, go to Kruger, and visit Eswatini, we booked Sheppard Boutique as the hub for those drives. The owners are so kind and accommodating. They serve a wonderful breakfast and dinner is also an option. We love the grounds and the rooms are beautiful. We love this establishment!!

A very beautiful, tranquil and quiet setting, giving you the impression that you are somewhere in a country side far form the noise of a city. You instantly relax when entering the beautiful cooled room from the outside hot humid air.

The room was a bit dated and needed some minor maintenance, but they were busy with makeover of other rooms which will make the experience that much more enjoyable after they completed all the rooms.

Another highlight is definitely the food. From the full English breakfast (there are healthy options too) to the Grillroom restaurant's rich french inspired cuisine. You will delight your taste buds and will want more. Best enjoyed medium-rare!

Enjoy a sundown-er or dinner from the deck and appreciate the amazing view of the trees, mountains in the distance and part of Nelspruit.

Lastly the staff and management were always friendly, helpful and went out of their way to make the experience memorable. I'm looking forward to my next stay!

This is a lovely property in a perfect location. I had previously visited the property before deciding to stay. However, we were disappointed to find the TV in our room was not working and the gentleman on duty had no idea how to fix it. He allocated us another room and left us to repack and carry our own heavy bags. The room was smaller and yet, the hotel management made no gesture to compensate us. Then on the penultimate day, the bathroom flooded because the bath drain plug was faulty. We were unable to have bath the next morning before checkout and yet again, the hotel receptionist missed the opportunity to compensate us. I did not ask, because for me the true test of good service is for the hotel staff to show some initiative. In this respect, they failed dismally.
Then, to cap it all on the last morning there has been road blocks around Nelspruit and most of the kitchen staff were unable to get to work. Breakfast was totally compromised. My wife asked for poached eggs and was told the chef (who, by the way is also the chef for the Grillroom) did not know how to poach an egg. My wife then settled for fried eggs and he clearly doesn't know how to fry eggs either!!!! The underside was burnt and the white and yolk were totally undercooked. We were on a B&B rate and yet again, no attempt was made to compensate us for the fact we did not receive a proper breakfast service.
I would stay again if I am in Nelspruit, because the location is superb and the rooms, when functioning are lovely. Breakfasts are very good most of the time. Towels were disappointingly old and hard but I managed to persuade the highly professional and friendly Jessica to find us better ones. She should be singled out as being a real asset to the hotel. By the way, she was not on duty when all the drama described above took place, because I am confident she WOULD have shown more initiative.

Response from Natasha Alberts, Marketing at Sheppard Boutique Hotel
Responded 02 Aug 2022
Dear Mr. King, It is most unfortunate for us that your experience at Sheppard Boutique Hotel may be considered by yourself as not remarkable nor memorable, to say the least. Management went through a difficult time during your stay as we experienced a transport strike which led to us having a zero staff compliment. However, you being the guest, we do not expect you to understand nor have sympathy for any unforeseen problems we may have to deal with. We just want to mention that the room you were moved to due to the faulty TV, is exactly the same size as the one you originally booked. It is in essence the same room, right next door. That is most probably the reason you were not compensated. However, from your review, it is now clear that you experienced severe inconvenience and therefore expected to be compensated. May we kindly suggest that in future you raise your concerns and inconveniences to the management of the hotel you are staying at, during your stay. This will enable management to address said problems immediately and appropriately. It is difficult to address a problem a guest may have had, once the guest has already left. May we suggest the following wonderful guest houses in the area during your next stay: - Christie's on Russell - Francolin Lodge - Loerie's Call - Lowveld Living - La Villa Vita - La Roca We truly hope your next stay in Nelspruit will be more memorable and that all your expectations are met. Yours truly, Management Sheppard Boutique Hotel

Lovely location, beautiful gardens and the view just makes it. Well maintained gardens and the lounge and reception area beautifully and tastefully decorated. The rooms need an upgrade, they're a little tired, I stayed in a luxury suite which was nice and comfortable, however it was very dark and cold with no view. Staff very friendly, especially the staff serving in the breakfast room.
On the second day there was no breakfast or room staff due to a strike so breakfast was a little disappointing.

What a fantastic hidden gem! We stayed for three nights in the family room and would highly recommend this guest house. It ticked all the boxes - a stunning garden, sparkling pool, friendly staff, privacy, safety with 24hour security, shade parking, city views from the deck, a restaurant serving delicious food and elegantly furnished rooms. If your looking for a tranquil, stylish and friendly atmosphere then this guest house is for you. Thank you Des, you can be proud of your excellent team!

We found the Sheppard Boutique Hotel by accident when our usual hotel didn't have a room available. What a lovely find it turned out to be!

Conveniently situated, it is beautiful both inside and out. It is tastefully furnished with interesting corners to explore and enjoy.

The staff are friendly and professional, the service superb.

Our room was spacious and comfortable with all the essentials and more! Although small, the restaurant menu is carefully prepared by a chef who obviously loves to plan uniquely and beautifully presented dishes. The breakfast was equally delicious with an excellent variety that caters for every preference.
The wine and bar menu is more than adequate.

We will definitely return.

When the security guard gives you a friendly greeting by your surname at the gate upon your late-ish arrival, you know this is going to be different! Beautiful nighttime views from the deck area during dinner, and really, really good food. Comfy room too - call me impressed and content. I will be back!

I stayed for one night at the hotel for a business travel and i was quite impressed. The hotel provides a serene and relaxing environment. The check in was quite swift. I stayed in the classic double room which was a bit on the small side but adequate for my stay. The rooms were quite clean and had all the necessary amenities. The internet in the rooms was quite fast. I loved the simple but quite delicious breakfast.

The only down side is that guests have to rely on the guard to open the gate to the hotel. At one time, i had to stay a bit longer at the gate as the guard was busy with other duties. I would recommend that the hotel considers giving gate remote controls to guests.

Otherwise, this is a great and relaxing place to stay! Kudos to the management.

The welcome was good
Staff was great and the rooms were wonderfully big and clean. Will definitely call again.
The breakfast took a little too long to prepare though 😞
The location is a driving distance to the city Centre, walking will take looking.
