We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Sudwala Lodge. We could walk around on this widespread resort enjoying the well kept lawns and outdoor activities. If booking a studio unit and not wanting to climb steps make sure you book unit 1 to 8. I missed having a private braai area in the up stair unit.

Great surprise when the trees opened up and revealed this nice venue. The staff at reception made us feel welcome at arrival and so did the rest of the crew for the whole weekend. We went for a nightwalk and Lucky , the operations manager displayed great poise, patience and class , handling a difficult little customer during the walk and the marshmallow braai. The resort is well maintained and Sibusiso was a patient guide for two old and slow walkers.

My wife and I spent 1 week at the Sudwala Chalets Lodge (SCL). The SCL was easy to find and locate, and it is around 10 minutes away from the N4 highway. We arrived at around 12h00 pm, and we were able to move into our Unit within 30 minutes of our arrival.

The SCL and its facilities were clean and mostly well maintained. Our room was quite clean and we had a nice view of the mountain/hill and the main pool area. The entertainment centre is a bit outdated, but there are a variety of activities offered, so you won't get bored too quickly.

The SCL staff were very friendly and always reasy to assist us with any issue/ query that we had. We had no issues checking in and out, and we also received our Breakage Deposit before we left the lodge.

Overall, the SCL is a secluded, quiet and serene resort which we wilo definitely visit again in the future.

The lodge was infested with fish moths and little black flies as well as bats somewhere in the thatch roofing. Fish moths constantly fell on us while we slept. Rude night manager banged on our room door at 7pm and told us to switch off our music, even though it was on low volume, as it is their rules that they don't allow music to be played on any device. What's the point of going on a holiday that you pay for and you cannot enjoy it. I will never stay there again. Service is also very slow with meals and drinks orders. Checkout was also frustrating because the cleaner first needed to come in and check if we broke or stole anything. She eventually radio'd reception to confirm all in order, but when we got to reception, they still wasted my time even more for a second confirmation from the cleaner that all was in order, before returning my deposit.

Hi there. Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. We take all comments to heart and appreciate all feedback to consider ways in which to improve our service offering. Please be assured that your comments have been noted and shared with Management for their attention. They have informed us that pest control was made aware of the presence of fishmoths in some units, and they have since used a specialised treatment to deal with the issue. Due to the caves and surrounding mountains, The Resort is home to many bats, which are a protected species, and as such cannot be interfered with. With regard to the music, the Manager on duty kindly asked that it be turned down as it was being played at a volume that impacted other guests. Our rules are designed to ensure that the comfort and enjoyment of all guests be taken into consideration. Management has also confirmed that the Restaurant and kitchen staff are currently undergoing training to improve service delivery to our guests. Pertaining to your complaint regarding our check-out process, we kindly ask guests to inform Reception about their desired check-out time, so that the housekeepers can inspect the units accordingly. Unfortunately, it sometimes happens that many guests want to check out at the same time, which slows down the housekeeping process. We do apologise for any inconvenience which may have been caused. We hope you find the above in order. Kind Regards – The Sudwala Lodge Team

We had a very good stay. The property is well maintained. The chalets are clean and well equipped. The DSTV boquet could be better for entertainment. We really enjoy the resort and will become regular visitors. We are avid cyclists and the riding offered in direct vicinity is brilliant.

Sudwala Lodge is located in a great area with most of the attractions relatively close by. The units and gardens are immaculately maintained. Another nice feature is that each cluster of units (5 clusters in total) have their own swimming pool which can be seen from the patio of the unit.

We stayed at Sudwala Lodge for a week in July 2022. It was two adults and two kids (8 and 12).

The chalets are very comfortable but not luxurious. They are clean and quiet, and the self-catering is very convenient.

The facilities for kids are excellent. There are daily activities available, as well as a games room, swimming pools, tennis etc. etc. The kids loved being there and made friends straight away.

A special mention needs to be made about the staff. They were absolutely amazing. Friendly, helpful, polite. Big smiles everywhere, always ready to make your stay more pleasant. For example, the lady in the games room was always happy to join in on the table tennis if a kid didn't have a partner to play with... and she did it with a smile. Reception staff were professional and friendly. Excellent service levels. :)

The small store at the lodge could be better stocked, but it has the basics. The nearest supermarket is quite a drive away, so doing shopping before you get there is a good idea. Prices at the store were very reasonable.

The grounds are well maintained, and it was lovely to see bushbuck roaming around.

Overall, we had a great time there and will certainly return there if possible.

Our cycling weekend at Mankele Bike Park turned out to be a great holiday, thanx to Sudwala lodge, where we could swim, go for walks, dine at the restaurant. They really spoilt us as they made a boma fire for us, we had a lovely braai by the river, they set the tables nicely.....everyone was extremely helpful, friendly, went out of their way to accomodate our needs and wishes.

We were on route to Nelspruit this morning and decided to support your restaurant.
I was disgusted by your no-tolerance for dogs!
As soon as we saw your sign, Gillian went in to get takeaways. I took our chocolate lab for a short walk. We put Nutmeg back in the car and we drove to the parking lot opposite the filling station where the security parks to eat our takeaways. Your security came over to inform us that we are not welcome to park there and did not show the slightest bit of hospitality.

This was despite there being hardly anyone there at that time of the day.
We left and ate on the side of the road somewhere. It's the last time you will see us.

Hi there. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We appreciate that your preference is to travel with your pet and we ourselves count many passionate animal lovers amongst our number, but we hope you can also appreciate our aim to provide a suitable holiday environment for all guests, that maintains a high standard of cleanliness and protects the naturally-occurring flora and fauna on the property; something that is difficult to maintain without imposing certain restrictions, such as the allowance of pets. This is not abnormal in the hospitality industry. Your concern regarding our Security Team was noted and Management has taken up the matter with the relevant personnel. We appreciate your feedback and trust you enjoyed the rest of your trip to Nelspruit. Kind Regards – The Sudwala Lodge Team

Does the resort supply the wood for the communal braais or does one bring their own?

We were not in unit 310. The unit we were in had a double bed. They told me only two adults and two children were allowed in my unit. We didn't have children. There were two long sofas which would easily sleep someone without pulling out. I don't know if they were sofa sleepers or not. There was a shower as well as bathtub. The sofas were in a large living room area.

Summer is always an awesome time to visit that specific area of South Africa. You will definitely need a car...Drive from Sudwala Lodge to Kruger National Park = 86 km +- 1h30 minutes. Start with the Panorama route...awesome..so many things to do and places to visit.
