Detailed Reviews
We stayed at this resort during a tour arranged by another company. The hotel was lovely, the grounds and pool were beautiful and it has great amenities but the front of house staff was not as friendly or helpful as the rest of the hotels we visited on our tour. The WiFi is unreliable and we kept getting kicked off so if you are counting on that as an amenity I would recommend another location. I had very little interaction with the other staff members so my customer service experience was limited to the reservations desk and the hostess in the restaurant.

Neat, clean and large well equipped self catering resort. We had a 2 room unit which sleeps 6 in total. It had a spacious kitchen that was really well equipped. A nice dining area and a loung area with sleeper couches. This led to a sliding door onto a patio overlooking the river with 2 braai areas and outdoor seating. The unit had 2 bathrooms both witj showers and 1 with a bath. There was a safe in the room and also a separate dressing room. Could be five star if they paid attention to detail - better cleaning of dust in the unit. Air conditioners in the lounge and bedrooms and a heater was provided. Towels and toiletries provided everyday. Very friendly staff - nice large pool, fantastic tennis courts, squash courts and a decent gym. Chess, table tennis, pool table. It had a bar and restaurant on site. Possibly of seeing hippos and crocs in the river. Close to mall and shops although there is a small shop on site for emergencies. Nice gardens throughout the complex that are well maintained. There are porters to assist with luggage as it is a small walk from the car park to the unit. There are stairs in the unit from the entrance going down. Covered parking with shadenet was provided. The closest Kruger National Park gate was 10km away. Overall a good location for the natural sites around the area. Would definitely recommend and hope to be back.

We booked 2 adjacent 3 bedroom houses for our annual family holiday. The houses were well equipped and very clean. The necessary things to make our stay comfortable were all there. We spent each day travelling into the KNP and late afternoon when we came back the lovely well kept swimming pools were a favourite.

at check in , we were greeted with the rudest receptionist i have encounted. our rooms booked were not ready and when requested to be resolved the same rude receptionist assisted with banging furniture around and throwing our items from side to side. there is no wifi in a claimed 4 star resort. there is no wifi signal to utilize your own data. the towels in the bathroom are as course as sandpaper and are dark in colour to hide stains away. there is no fridge in the room with temperatures reaching 38 degrees average, a cold beverage at night is a problem. they do not replace the sugar tea coffee once you have checked in. breakfast does not have any pastries. bed and sheets were of good standard though.

Response from Agnes Scullard, Other at Sanbonani Hotel, Resort & Spa
Responded 08 Jan 2021
Firstly the Team would like to apologise for any inconveince that you experienced during these unprecidented times that we have all experienced. Your remarks have been noted. Sanbonani Resort are busy with a substantial WIFI instalation that was unfortunately brought to a stand still during the lock down, however we are happy to say the contracters are back working on this project. Take care Regards

Maybe it was the timing of our visit; perhaps we simply had different expectations based on word-of-mouth/website...
Anyway, there was certainly nothing "wrong" with our visit - besides the price - and 'Sanbonani' has plenty on offer including: huge swimming area, tennis courts, a small but functional indoor gym, pool table/billiards, nice quiet location, lush & beautiful grounds, but it just didn't feel worth it.
Our "luxury ensuite room" felt a little 'worn'/aged, and the air-con made noise all night. The bed was comfortable, but made a terrible 'cracking' noise every time one of us rolled over! Breakfast was fine, though they attempted to charge us for coffee on the second morning, even though we had paid 'bed and breakfast' rates!
Alas, a good location very proximal to Phabeni Gate at Kruger, kind staff, and the fact that you're staying minutes from Kruger National Park all make it worth it.

Accommodation in Hazyview offers a central point for daily visits to the Lowveld area and the Kruger National Park.
The Sanbonani Resort staff accepted all professionally and were always willing to help. The South African COVID regulations are enforced.
The resort buildings and gardens, including the swimming pools and mini golf (Putt Putt) course, are clean and served daily, and well maintained. This included the gymnasium and adjoining change rooms. The temperature of water of the "warm water" swimming pool could have been higher. The spa and restaurant were not visited.
The inventory of the cutlery and crockery provided was in line with accommodation for 6 persons.
The Guests, during our visit, abided the 20 km ph speed limit and allocated parking bays. The people quietness and the bird sounds added to the tranquility.

We’ve been coming to the Sanbonani 2 and 3-BR chalets for years (hotel is here too) with grills and views. And it’s basically in some of the best condition I’ve seen it. Great for kids and families.
It has the largest pool in the area and lots of sports and activities - the biggest plus is probably the most beautiful grounds/trees/biodiversity in the area. New Years had a nice party with a DJ who played a lot of different types of music getting everyone dancing at the end. When we arrived we saw the biggest Santa chair ever. We went to Kruger on Jan 1 a little late with no lines.
The restaurant has improved with a great pizza with extra cheese and good coffee and a standard buffet breakfast. A store serves low-fat ice cream that the kids like and other supplies. Drinks available too and a travel guide with Kruger pickups and massage place (best massage ever next door).

We booked to adjacent houses for our family get together. The 3 bedroom houses were well stocked with all necessary things, lots of space and the bargain the cleaners were thorough!
We spent every day going into KNP and came back late afternoon when the big swimming pools were just what was needed after a day in the park. Highly recommended!

Had supper at the restaurant on 16 September. Service was very slow. Cocktails were watered down and tasteless. Chicken was so under done we couldn't eat it. T-bone was paper thin, cold and over done. At the prices they charge we expected a decent meal but received the opposite.

Warm and welcoming staff plus an all round great atmosphere ensured we all enjoyed a very relaxing week. The bonus was the top class spa where we treated ourselves to treatments from massages to facials and even enjoyed the hairdresser. The restaurant serves delicious meals.
Only the gym could do with a bit of extra care.

Hi Christy, a night safari is a different experience and well worth doing. Probably the desk staff can arrange it for you. We spent week doing self-drive day trips into Kruger NP and had many fabulous sightings, We used a book 'Kruger Self-drive Routes Roads & Ratings' to plan our first few days and then repeated some of the best drives. We had booked a separate 3-day stay at a private lodge and this provided a different experience in driven (and walking) safaris including night trips. It was pleasantly warm in September so November will probably be quite hot. Have a great trip!
individuals or families .....hotels rooms check on Booking com for availability and rates I suggest
yes the Phabeni gate to Kruger is 10 mins away by car
Kruger gate 2--25 minutesp away Tour comppanies can pick you up at the resort and take you on a day trip to Kruger .. the best way to go when you have limited time. Book when you arrive at the resort. The park is vast , if you get lucky you can see the big 5,,,not guaranteed but you will see lts of wild animals
Guest booked a Hotel Room and expected the Room to have Braai / Barbecue facilities, when it is very clear on the place that they booked and on our web site that only the chalets have Braai areas!
"The pool was very cold on a very hot summer . Over all a very excellent place to be."Read full review
