Ilara and Robbie went surpassed our expectations for a 'light' Sunday supper on our arrival. The careful attention to detail both in the delicious dinner and every aspect of our too short stay was perfect. The pool and accessories are clean, well maintained and most refreshing after a hot drive. Ilara served us cool drink and nibbles poolside to complete a blissful experience. The suite is clean, comfortable and good in every last detail. Warm shower, organic bathroom amenities and fluffy towels. Restful sleep in a comfortable clean bed. Ilara served a healthy plentiful breakfast on the patio. We made friends with lovely resident dogs, Milly, and company and the cat. We left refreshed and look forward to returning for more spoiling.
I would highly recommend Plumbago Guest House. The food is outstanding and the hosts are extremely kind and welcoming. The area is serene and quiet, with many activities and places to visit. Thank you for a lovely stay! We will be back soon!
We had a marvelous stay at this guesthouse. The rooms were neat and well maintained. You could immediately see the owner pays attention to finer detail to make the stay absolutely worth wile. I would easily recommend this guesthouse to anyone whom enjoys luxury staying and awsome hospitality.
Ilara and Robbie are perfect hosts for an exciting yet restful holiday. Plumbago is situated near so many interesting places to visit from the Panorama Route to Kruger. They are helpful and knowledgable and are a great asset when planning your activities. The guest house itself is beautiful, the suites, the garden, the pool and the food. Ilara is a great cook and provides a wonderful variety of home cooked meals to enjoy. We were so happy here we stayed an extra night and will definitely be back. Jude and Phil
Where to start, since there are so many good things to mention! But first: Stop browsing and book this now, you will not be disappointed. This is the place to stay before/after Kruger or even visiting the place daily. We staid for four nights with our two 11 years old girls before heading thought to Mjejane through Kruger. Booking was done through their own website. Start of the day is a bliss: breakfast that makes many 5* hotels look like amateurs. The place is just beautiful - classy colonial feeling with history and beautiful flowers. Big outdoor patios for summer but also cosy indoor facilitates for cold winter nights. For the day: South-Africa is a beautiful country and from here you can do daily trips to see nature wonders such as three rondevals, gods window and panorama route. For family there are elephant whisperer, reptile park and moholoholo rehabilitation center. There's a lot to see other than Kruger. After the day there the big pool. Refreshing and relaxing just to sit and enjoy the warm weather. Enjoy a beer (there is a fridge in the room) or ask for a cocktail - the bar selection is great. During the evening you can have private dinner with very high quality. We ate here and checked all the three restaurants in Hazyview: Pioneers Grill, Kuka and Topolions. Ilara was the best of three four and with a decent price. If you eat ourside - her recommendation is Pioneers Grill and would recommend the same. Beds were perfect and the sheets/bedding very high class Our girls, and we, loved the pets: Willow, Millie, Wendy and the newcomer cat Mr. Shelby. They all are adorable. And last but not least - When visiting a place with a small amount of rooms, you always wonder, how it will be - do I have my own privacy, how will be the owners? But rest assured, Ilara and Robbie are extremely warm hearted and make you feel very welcome.…
Very warm welcome in a lovely place. The room was very nice, spacious and clean. Ilara’s cooking is amazing. We hope to come back to Plumbago and enjoy the hospitality on our next visit to Hazyview. Arjan en Cindy IJdo
Years ago on our travels, we discovered that the intimacy of a B&B - especially one that has all the comforts of a 5-star facility - far exceeds the experience of staying in a hotel. When planning our first trip to the Kruger area, we had been told that South Africa had some wonderful B&Bs, so we decided to consider that option. Thanks to Tripadvisor, Plumbago Guesthouse was an easy choice because it was ranked number one in the large Mpumalanga Province. Now - unbelievably - we have just returned from our 5th annual visit to Plumbago. We now consider the proprietors, Illara and Robbie, good friends, and it is such a treat to see them each year and catch up. After our initial visit to Plumbago, when planning subsequent trips to the area, the first thing we do is check to see if Plumbago is available. We wouldn't think of visiting the country without a stay at this magical establishment. In addition to seeing Illara and Robbie, a highlight of our trip is always having one of Ilara's elegant candle-lit dinners, yes, compete with sorbet for palate cleansing. (And, of course, the outdoor breakfasts she serves in her flower laden subtropical setting are fabulous too!) We especially enjoyed seeing Illara and Robbie's son, Reece, on this visit. He has grown into a handsome young man, and we hear that he is excelling in rugby at school. If you are considering a trip to the Hazyview area, don't miss the chance to stay at the lovely Plumbago Guesthouse. And, if by chance you are escaping winter in the Northern Hemisphere when you come, be sure to bring your bathing suit so you can take a dip in the inviting pool - which has a distant view of Kruger.…
We keep on coming back to Plumbago and this is hardly surprising since every aspect of the experience is first class. We enjoy the seclusion and peace of a small family owned and run guesthouse and the opportunity to become part of ilara and Robbie's family for a short time. The accommodation is very comfortable and tastefully furnished. There are lots of nice little touches with a turn down service. We have exclusive access to the sizeable swimming pool and are able to choose from an imaginative and very tasty menu at both breakfast and dinner. Everything is carried out in a most professional but unstuffy way and the service all round is exceptional. Thank you, ilara and Robbie for another great stay. It goes without saying that we will be back so please don't go away. xx
We thank Ilara and Robbie for their great hospitality. They will make you feel at home. We really enjoy the generous and elegant room, quietness of the place, nice breakfast on the terrace, and the wonderful view/sunrise over the avocado-banana farm plantation. Located just 10min from Hazyview. We highly recommend it as a stop-over on the way to Kruger or to discover Blyde River Canyon/Panorama Route.
If you are looking for exceptional personal service, divine food - including vegan, and a quiet retreat for a few days look no further. Ilara and her team go out of their way to make your stay special. We loved all the extra little touches in the room from slippers and gowns to body scrub, chocolate next to the bed, loofahs and so much more. An honesty bar, complimentary sherry and snacks. So many little special corners to tuck up with a book, or just relax. Ilara went out of her way to cater for my vegan friend and the dinners were sublime. I could go on and on. Massages are available by prior arrangement. Spectacular views, lush garden. We left refreshed and renewed. Had no idea this little gem was literally on my doorstep.
