This hotel proved to be an exceptional experience set in a spectacular and convenient location with outstanding views from its beautiful and extensive grounds and gardens. Rooms were spacious, impeccably clean and comfortable and both management and staff could not have been more attentive to our needs ( we travelled as a family including an infant) and ensuring that we had the most enjoyable time possible in such a welcoming environment.
Breakfast could not have provided a more extensive or nutritious choice and an evening table d’hote menu which changed daily provided extremely high quality meals and accompanying drinks at extremely modest prices.
We had a truly great experience at Rissington.

We’ve just returned home having spent a lovely six nights at the Risssington Inn.
This is a wonderfully welcoming and comfortable place to base yourself for a safari holiday. It’s not actually in the Kruger Park but is a short 15 minute drive to the Phabeni Gate where you enter. The accommodation is set in beautiful grounds with the rooms a short walk from the central main house where all meals are taken.
We had a Garden Suite which was very comfortable with a quirky twist. Don’t expect “chain hotel” homogeneous uniformity, the rooms are all individual with their own character.
We ate every night at the hotel and the food was excellent without exception; again don’t expect expensive “fine dining” which leaves you feeling hungry. The food here is high quality South African fare which is beautifully presented and very reasonably priced.
Don’t be concerned about not being in the Park because the staff at the Rissington will arrange everything for you and still smile even when you make significant changes to your itinerary! We took a guided safari at the starting of the week in a viewing vehicle with a very knowledgeable driver but easily the best day was a guided walk with two highly experienced local guides (with rifles). We were lucky enough to see rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, and elephant all in one morning - fantastic.
We also hired a car at Johannesburg which I would also recommend as it gives you great flexibility - the drive from Tambo Airport is 250 miles (400 km) on very good roads and is completely safe provided you travel in the daylight. We took the car into the park several times which allowed us to revisit some of the best spots, entry into the park costs 920 Rand (just under £50 @ £1 = 20 Rand).
So please put the Rissington at the top of your list if your looking for comfortable reasonably priced accommodation, great food and genuinely hospitable staff.

Unfortunately me and my wife only got to stay at the Rissington for one night for an early flight, however we were very impressed with the hotel as a whole.

We stayed in the garden view suite which had a stunning view in the day and even better at sunset! The room was very large, open plan and was accompanied with a large bathroom with a bath and a private outdoor shower!

We stayed at the Inn for an evening meal and breakfast the following morning. All the food was plentiful and really tasty (the trout pasta was amazing!). The wine menu was also great and the healthy servings that came with it was a bonus!

Overall a great stay and we wish we had a little longer to use the hotel facilities (e.g. the pool and garden walks) - may be one for the future!

Lovely and welcoming staff are the hallmark of this well equipped place close to the many geographical attractions in this area.
The restaurant is set poolside with a choice of interesting dishes. The food is very good and service excellent from what appears a young team that have been trained very well.
We had a a garden suite possibly the furthest from the maim building. Nice and peaceful although the WiFi was non existent. Can get by but frustrating as needed access to files etc. It’s a bit better in the main building. WiFi issues are not uncommon in SA so not unusual.
Disappointed was no room safe for personal stuff as it is deemed that guests don’t know how to use them. That may well be but it’s not helpful. Valuables cam be handed to staff, not cash tho but again this is not helpful or convenient.
Being sensible SA is a safe place to visit and this place has long bumpy drive and secure fencing. Nevertheless I feel that the suites have quite flimsy doors which one kick would open and those could be improved.
I did not see the smaller rooms but feel they would offer very good value for one or two night stays.
Good place to stay overall and thank you to the cheery and helpful boys and girls who work at Rissington.

Thanks very much for the good review. I am glad you appreciated the fantastic team and all the other aspects of hospitality that we feel are so important. Just to respond to your two comments, the entire country was (and still is, as I write in mid-Feb 2020) suffering from three ruptures in the under-sea cable connecting us to the rest of the world's Internet. It seems amazing that the Internet should be so fragile and that there are ships out there right now, fixing the problem. But fix it, they will. This is why you will have found South African Internet so slow at the time of your visit. We have also recently signed up to a new service provider which should give us a far faster speed once the cable is up and fixed again. We have also begun a process (in fact we are about half-way through the rooms) of replacing all our wooden doors and putting in aluminium sliding doors instead. Security is really not an issue here at all, but these new doors (as fitted to our newest rooms) look so much smarter. Safes are an ongoing debate but they cause enormous amounts of trouble. A hotel safe is about as far from 'safe' as a safe can be, so we prefer to take care of people's valuables in sealed bags in the office safe. And carrying large amounts of cash is never a good idea (or necessary) anywhere these days ...! Thanks for taking the trouble to review Rissington. I am so glad that the team impressed you. All the best, Chris Harvie

We spent two nights in this delightful, friendly lodge. Nothing was too much trouble for the always accommodating staff - our car was even washed for us before departure. Food is freshly cooked from a delicious menu of 3 choices per course in the evening so not a 60 page menu that is completely unachievable without the help of a microwave! Wine sold in HUGE glasses 👏 Breakfast at the Lodge was a smorgasbord of delights - scones highly recommended.

A morning safari was arranged for us & went seamlessly including a packed breakfast which was very welcome.

All was enhanced by the presence of our ever genial host and his two dogs.

Do yourselves a favour and book in for a very comfortable stay.

On 17th May a party of 30 from the UK and other counties descended on The Rissington Inn in Hazyview to start an amazing two weeks adventure, mainly for the wedding of our granddaughter.
When this trip was first booked in May 2021 the owner Chris Harvie kindly agreed to give us sole occupancy – a most generous action. When COVID intervened and the trip had to be re-arranged for October 2021, then again for May 2022 he repeated his offer.
It is hard to put into words our appreciation and admiration for Chris and all his wonderful staff. No request was ever refused and we were treated like royalty.
The pool was lovely as were the grounds, giving a calm ambiance all around. Both the quality and choice of the food were excellent.
Added to all that, Chris and his staff drove a very long distance to the Mathekenyane Lookout point in Kruger National Park to provide a buffet lunch for us after the wedding. A truly wonderful gesture at an incredible location.
If we ever return to that area we will always stay at The Rissington – and why ever not

We spend one night in the Rissington Inn. Old fashioned, very British houses (we had a garden suite) with thatched roofs and a beautiful view on the garden. Very clean, the rooms are comfortable but not secured (old locks). This means you have to carry your valuable belongings to the main lodge to have them secured. Not easy... The bathrooms need to be renovated as well as the very nice outside showers. The all over experience gives an outdated, charming feeling. The food is excellent and with local specialties and fresh products. The chef works there for 24 years and still loves his job!! We didn't meet him but taste the food and look at the beautiful buffet for breakfast with own-made pies, boboties and other delicious things. He made our stay!! Thanks

Thank you for this wonderful review. We have used our recent enforced downtime to fix all the locks by replacing the doors with far more practical sliding doors so it is all looking very smart now. And the chef is delighted with your comments (although 'he' is a 'she'!). Looking forward to seeing you again soon. All the best, Chris and the Rissington Team

We really enjoyed our time at Rissington, it was a great base before we went on safari. Everyone we interacted with was really friendly and we enjoyed having a cocktail in the evening after dinner. The food was really good, we eat outside one evening and food we had at Rissington was much better and great value. We booked the in room massage and couldn’t recommend this enough, it was so relaxing and finished our time there in the best way. The air conditioning was a bit weak in the room and you would have to have it on for some time in the evening before the room was comfortable.

We stayed at Rissington Inn for a long weekend, two families with plenty of kids between us. We really enjoyed our stay, the rooms are rustic but nice, clean and spacious. We loved the views over the garden, and the outdoor shower was surprisingly a highlight as the morning sun came through the foliage of the surrounding trees. We were in the two adjoining family rooms in a house to ourselves, perfect set up for friends with kids. The staff were so great - very accommodating while relaxed, friendly and easygoing (and we had a lot of special requests especially on food for the children!). We loved their commitment to sustainability and thoroughness on keeping to COVID protocols. We would definitely go back.

Hi It may be too late now for my response now but I agree that Rissington Inn is a good place to stay on arrival into the area before travelling onto one of the camps actually in the Kruger parks (which is a reasonable drive away). We only stayed one night but would have been happy to stay longer and when we were there others were using that as their base to do other things in the area. We moved onto to Nottens Bush Camp in the Kruger which I have reviewed and would recommend
