We had a wonderful stay at Summerfields Rose Retreat and Spa. The accommodation was so comfortable and the setting beautiful but it would be have been nothing without the lovely staff who made us feel so welcome. From the friendly smile at the gate, to the welcome party ready to carry our bags, the efficient check in and the attentive waitering staff, the people working in the garden, cleaning the pool… everyone went above and beyond to make our stay special. Being vegan I am used to having chips and salad as the standard vegan offering so I was blown away by the amazing food that was served up. The chefs here are extremely talented. We travel quite extensively internationally and I can say that the food here far exceeds anything I have had abroad. The creamy flavourful tomato risotto, the fresh succulent veggies with a hint of herbs, creamy avo on freshly baked bread with all the trimmings… all heavenly. The gorgeous salads in our picnic basket, the most divine spring rolls and the decadent chocolate muffins with fluffy icing were beyond expectations. A special mention to Nimrod whose passion for food is evident by the beautiful plates that were presented. Also, how nice to find our car, that on arrival was covered in dust, sparkling clean on departure. Thanks to Obed, it was a nice touch. No wonder this establishment has internationally recognised awards, the quality of service and food we received was top class. The only issue we had was the exorbitant prices of food and beverages. If the prices were more reasonable we may have spent more time in the beautiful pool bar. Water should also be provided. Otherwise a wonderful experience and birthday.

A beautiful, tranquil setting. The rooms are extremely private and beautifully decorated with quality furniture, linen, facilities and toiletries. The staff are exceptional and go out of their way to take care of all your needs. The spa is a "must". We will definitely be back soon.

My husband and I visited Summerfields for the easter weekend in 2024. What an experience… from the time we entered, we were greeted by friendly staff at the reception. Sandra, Khanyesile, Patience and Blessed were just outstanding.
They offered to get our luggage out of the car and take it to the room, gave us a full tour of the premises and the attractions around the areas, recommended reputable companies to tour with and walked us to the restaurant.
The experience was so personalized throughout our stay…it was unbelievable!
The entire retreat and spa is so well maintained, it’s exactly like the pictures on the internet… staff are so friendly and food was absolutely delicious 😋.
I would definitely recommend Summerfields to anyone looking for a calm, stress free weekend away 👌.

I am writing to express my deep disappointment and dissatisfaction following our recent stay at Summerfields. As a frequent visitor since 2014, our fourth visit has regrettably left a lasting negative impression.
Room Conditions:
The bed linen was not only dated but also uncomfortable, making it difficult to enjoy a good night's sleep. The presence of spiders and broken lampshades in the room significantly detracted from the overall experience. The towels and bathrobe showed signs of wear and tear, with noticeable holes in both.
Facility Issues:
The Wi-Fi service was sporadic, hindering our ability to stay connected during our stay. The bath's prolonged warm-up time, exceeding an hour, was inconvenient and disrupted our daily schedule. A reported broken tap was not addressed during our stay, indicating a lack of prompt maintenance.
Hygiene and Amenities:
The complimentary toiletries were diluted, reflecting a disregard for quality in the provided amenities. The presence of an old damp smell in the room, coupled with damp linen, raised serious concerns about cleanliness and upkeep.
Dining Experience:
Despite repeated requests regarding my wife's pork allergy, the breakfast staff consistently overlooked this crucial detail, compromising her safety. The restaurant's hygiene was questionable, with flies present in the morning and frequent errors in our breakfast orders. Our dinner experience was marred by an uninformed waitress and an overpriced, subpar rump steak.
Spa Experience:
Communication breakdowns occurred at the spa, as the therapist failed to adhere to specific requests related to my pregnant wife's massage, requiring multiple reminders.
Management Involvement:
The lack of any management presence during our stay was conspicuous and contributed to an overall sense of neglect.
Despite the picturesque setting along the Sabie River, these issues have collectively led us to the decision that this will be our last visit to Summerfields. The establishment's overrated status, coupled with the exorbitant prices, fails to justify the substandard service and facilities encountered.
It is my hope that this comprehensive feedback prompts a thorough examination of the areas highlighted, fostering improvements for future guests.

Summerfields has been on the bucket list for us for some time now and as a 5-star resort, we expected summer fields to maintain the standard as listed. Location, scenery and layout of the venue met and exceeded our expectations with an amazing feeling of being out of the chaos from JHB, however we were greatly disappointed with some aspects to which we feel really need to be addressed. Accommodation, Whilst the layout and location were beautiful, our shower head was like a sprinkler in the litchi fields, no steady flow in direction and had water spraying all over the bathroom, Pool area, We decided to relax by the pool and enjoy what Summerfield’s had to offer, Unfortunately, very little options available when coming to drinks with only one type of whiskey and one type of gin, very poor options for a 5 star stay and very little enthusiasm from the staff that attended the bar facility, We noticed cards and a chess board to which there was no full pack of cards or chess pieces to play an actual game, again this is not meeting a 5star rating, disappointing to say the least. Saturday evening supper, We were unsure to stay or not for supper as the facility did not provide their standard supper options but thought for the cost of R295.00 per person that the “South African Braai” will be worth some experience, again this was highly disappointing with really a braai that we didn’t see value at higher than a R100.00 per person, food was really average and nothing to really be proud of at the price paid. The salads ran out, and the desert was only brought to our attention just before the kitchen closed as no one came to offer us desert. Once the desert arrived the waitress apologized as the chocolate ice-cream had melted all over the plate and those were her only two plates left. Sunday Breakfast We ordered breakfast and only to be told the restaurant didn’t have ham nor chili, these are simple ingredients to which is not a huge disappointment but again at a 5star rated lodge, this should not be the case, Eden Spa Whilst the massage was splendid and really a great experience, the hydro walk was really poor and not worth the experience, each of the three showers were in bad state, the first had the jet pop off and the water was everywhere with a combination of mist and falling water loads from the heads, The second shower was simply water off the trunk of a branch, nothing spectacular at all, a better flow of water would have been better here and then the third was a

Setting is natural and lovely, tents are also well kitted out and although unusual, outside toilet, shower and bath were good. Breakfast was good but dinner was poor and once we left the smell on all our clothes was horrible. We also had a fair few dragonfly type bugs in our room every night and one of the other tents played loud music which we mentioned but nothing changed the next night. A lovely place, just need to change a few things. We have done clamping in the UK which was a much nicer experience, although nowhere as nice a setting.

The Summerfields Rose Retreat & Spa Villa was one of the few outstanding staying experiences we had. With a restaurant placed at Sabe River, very good service, food and attentive employees we enjoyed every minute beeing there. Higly recommended!

We loved this first lodge during our trip to South Africa, 400 km from Johannesburg airport (approximately 5 hours drive). The property is beautiful with macadamia and lychee plantations along the Sabie River The tents are luxurious and the decor refined, bathroom opening onto the river, heated mattress which was very pleasant as it was cold at night in August. The restaurant is very beautiful and the food is very good for very reasonable prices. Perfect base for visiting the Blyde river canyon region and to head towards the Kruger

Stayed here for 2 nights in river view tent…. Amazing… the team are all so welcoming and absolutely the most helpful. Mumcy , gives the best massages ever…
Sandra, Khauyi and Mariana in reception were so much fun. Their enthusiasm and passion for the resort and knowledge of the area is outstanding.
Blessed the Manager was always around the resort talking with guests and ensuring everyone was happy and the standards were met.
Charlie on gate security was professional, efficient and always joking with guests. A great welcome for everyone.
No issues with load shedding, as they have generators to ensure all lights, air con, Wi-Fi and power remains available at all times.
We loved it so much we have booked again in March 2024.
This is an outstanding resort, staffed by brilliant employees. Thank you.

From booking to checking out, it was a party. Everything well organised and well-informed. We had booked a late valantine packet which included lunch, full body massage + facial and overnight stay. The staff is attentive, friendly and helpful. Also try the restaurant. The best mushroom risotto ever and don't forget the rooibos icecream , phenomenal. The riverside tent, is classy with really everything you need. I will definitely come back !

I think you would be better asking Summerfields Rose Retreat and Spa direct. We did not have a game drive whilst we were there and so I cannot answer with any real authority. It wasn't obvious that they provided such a facility but I'm sure, given how good they are there, that they would be happy to arrange one on your behalf.

Believe me, its worth going to the trouble of getting in touch with them. The Resort is absolutely fantastic. Hope this helped you in some way. Enjoy!
Kind regards from Switzerland.
