I really wasn't impressed after a long drive to discover a very plain, very sad room with surprise leftovers in the drawer next to my bed from the "loving" couple before me

I was then moved to another room which I must say was a lot better.

The breakfast was not bad but also not the best. I chose to eat dinner elsewhere as the menu wasn't good at all and they have the cheek to ask you an extra R20 per meal if you ask for it in your room.

There's a pub I didn't use. Which for some business people may be ok.

There is a swimming pool which looked very nice but I was so tired after the long days I just crashed in my room.

1 tv channel, no microwave and no fridge in the room.

I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and I probably wouldn't stay here again

The rooms do have aircons

Good Luck if you stay here

I visited Polokwane for business reasons and was booked into Kurumba Lodge without any prior knowledge of the place.it turned out to be a very satisfactory experience. The room was big and clean as would be expected. The working station in the room, always welcome while travelling on business, is ample. The reception was friendly and warm and very accommodating. Dinner and breakfast was good with again very friendly staff. I would have liked a reading light at work station and more accessible electric plugs. but a good stay and good value for money.

We visited Karumba to have brunch in the pub. The place has a nice atmosphere and is well designed. I ordered the Chicken Schnitzel and was quite happy with the standard of the dish. On the menu you can construct your own meal and my wife ordered the 125gr fillet steak with chips and veggies and find it appetizing. Our friends ordered Boerewors, mash and veggies and also expressed their satisfaction. All in all a good experience.

VERY POOR SERVICE

I stayed at the Kurumba Lodge, Polokwane on 4 July 2018.

I checked in at 14:00 by a not very friendly receptionist, who directed me to my room... 'over there to the self-catering unit, number 35'. 'Over there' was a walk through the carpark, past the rubbish bins, but I couldn't find number 35. Eventually I asked a gardener who pointed to a building. There was no number of it, but he assured me that it was mine.

I entered the room and it looked fine, so I left to go about my business as I wasn’t going to return until later that evening. When I shut the door, the whole handle came off in my hand. I reported it to the gardener, who happened to be there, and he said that he would fix it.

I returned at 21:00 and parked in the carpark. I had been given a gate button, but the electric gate was already open (and remained open) – and was therefore accessible to all and sundry. There were no lights or any security to my room, and I had to walk by myself in the dark. It had looked okay during the day, but at night, in the dark, felt extremely unsafe, especially knowing the gate had been open.

I rather cautiously entered the room and checked everywhere for safety. The kitchen light was not working, but I had not planned to use the kitchen that night. I used the bathroom and found there was no toilet roll. I called the reception, who sent some one over to my room, as I was not happy about walking back out in the dark. I queried whether being ‘self-catering’ meant that I should have brought my own toiletries – I was told that the room had been serviced. There was no soap in the bathroom though, which for R780 for the night, I at least expected. I requested some soap for reception, but this did not appear.

With it being July, it was very cold, so I decided to have a hot bath – unfortunately, there was only luke warm water – not satisfactory. I then decided to make myself a hot drink, and found one tea bag in the kitchen, but a box that was clearly meant for complimentary coffees etc.

With no hot bath or hot drink. I went to bed – I looked for the blanket – there wasn’t one!

I checked-out of the room at 07:30 the next morning to go in search of breakfast. I informed the reception of my unhappiness with the room, and security. I was told that the toilet roll was an error, but I wasn’t entitled to a hot drink in the room.

If you sleep at the same place more than five times a year for more than three years; you surely can call it home.

I have seen the towels new and I saw them age (owners if you are reading get new towels).

This is standard home away from home; no frills; you get a comfy bed and yes do order lamp shank from the kitchen before 20:00; it is Devine.

Best rooms are room 1 and 1A if you are staying alone for more than three days.

Parking is usually full in front of rooms between 18:00 and 20:00, if you can't get it don't worry it is mostly the guys (the BEE type who hang out there for some meeting and drink , harmless, dignified and well behaved crew) visiting the sports bar. They start dispersing around 20:30 you can then bring your car around if you insist on looking your car directly in he eyes while you sleep.

The lodge is on Thabo Mbeki street making it very easy to get into Polokwane City or venture out to Tzaneen, Giyane or Venda with no traffic hassles.

It is a very safe spot with a very helpful receptions and very nice kitchen staff.

Do try the breakfast in the morning, and the coffee is great try it.

I suggest if you are going to Venda or Giyane for the first time; do yourself a favor; book a sleep over here before venturing on into the beautiful north. If out for business in Polokwane and you just want to fill at home book yourself here.
