The new 4-star Mutapa Lodge in the Limpopo Province must be the Waterberg's best-kept secret! We booked 2 nights and experienced all the ingredients of a truly African-styled hideaway lodge - intimate, luxurious ambience in blissful bushveld surrounds...only 2 hours away from the city buzz. A stylish African Ndebele family "caia" was our accomodation, very comfortable with bath, gourmet toiletries and separate shower, open lounge and our own private boma for giant crackling evening logfires.
The magnificent culinary offerings (breakfast and dinner) from the kitchen blew us away - delicious 4-course feasts were presented, each night uniquely different - venison, chicken-on-the-grill, homemade breads, superb salads; on the second night, a fish feast second to none!... a big nod to our very hospitable and experienced Lodge manager Daniel and his wife. Service was 5-star throughout - Stephanie gets a sure accolade too for handling all our golfing arrangements at the nearby Legends Signature Golf Course (the course with the world's highest tee). The game drives were rewarded with great sightings, ending off on the tranquil Lodge dam with lovely sunset cruises on a luxury barge. We like Mutapa's ongoing conservation inititiative in this beautiful ecosystem. The birding checklist adds up to over 200 species! We left Mutapa feeling properly bush-pampered. We definitely recommend this haven of peace - and we will surely re-visit in time to come.
