We recently camped at Zvakanaka for 4 nights. We do a lot of this, and Zvakanaka is one of the very best we have visited: large, shady, well grassed plots with quite outstanding facilities (you dont often get your own gas stove in a campsite) and private ablutions. There are large shelters on each plot. The views are spectacular. The owners are lovely - and very efficient with pre arrival info and admin. There is even a little bar/cafe with wifi for guests to use. Strongly recommended either as a stop over, or a destination in its own right.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Madalas cottage, beautifully designed and well equipped for self catering. Highlights included a relaxing bath in the outdoor bath tub, picking limes for our G&Ts from the abundant lime tree and chatting to owners Gail and Al about the adventures they’ve had in their Land Rovers!

We enjoyed a very peaceful one night stay at Igababa Cottage on our way between OR Tambo airport and northern Kruger NP. Zvakanaka is a very nicely laid-out site with lots of privacy, bird life, a mongoose ran through the gardens and walking trails on site. Igababa had all of the facilities and utensils we needed and was a lovely 'bush break' to relax at. We will definitely use again when travelling this way and hope to spend longer. As others have said, communication before our arrival was very good and Gail was a very welcoming host, but the cottage itself is very private which we appreciated. Do note that the track down to the cottage is a bit rough. Even though the site is only about 1 km from the main road so has very easy access, we did not hear traffic at all.

Hi Sam. Thanks so much for this review! Much appreciated!! I do apologize for the road to the Cabin: the big storms before your arrival did some erosion - but no excuse - we are working on roads this week!! Hope your time in Kruger was good and I hope you are home safe and sound before this blocking of flights from SA. Take care and I hope we see you again. Warmest wishes, Gail and Al

My husband and I run 2 guest houses so we know what it takes. Gail was the perfect host (although we never met her as it is such a peaceful retreat). From the time of booking the trip we were informed and the stay was ideal - complete with complimentary Amarula and Ferro Roche chocolates. A delicately raked river sand garden, outdoor bath, and a splash pool to add that extra touch. At this price we will be returning on a regular basis.

Zvakanaka is a beautiful farm with amazing wildlife and a variety of interesting plants/lichen. The trails are great, and the view from the top of the mountain is breath-taking. We really appreciated how private our stay was, it felt like we were the only people on the farm. The cottage was lovely and so well equipped- it was as convenient as being at home. The attention to detail is very impressive, Gail and Al even provide you with bird seed so you can watch the birds in the morning. The outdoor bath was awesome, you can drink your complimentary Amarula in it while watching the clouds roll over the mountain. Just incredible! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and were very sad to leave. Thank you Gail and Al!

Ashleigh, Thank you SO much for taking the time to write this wonderful review!! I am only sorry the weather didn't treat you to pool-wallowing time! BUT, there will be a next time. And it is a pleasure for Al and I to host guests like yourselves, who revel in all the little details the mountain has to offer! All the best and if we don't see you before the festive season, have a safe and happy one! Warmest wishes, Gail and Al
