The bungalow we stayed in at Pretoriuskop was an improvement on both Satara (real shabby) and Skukuza (ok).
The monkeys and mongooses are all around and very curious.
On arrival the vervet monkeys gave us a live performance.
Its best to protect them by not feeding them/leaving them to grab a bite of yours.
The pool at Skukuza was unfortunately green but it was so hot that we didn t resit a swim anyway.
The electricity tripped a couple of times but was restored fairly quickly.

The location in Kruger is sensational and this rest camp has some good budget options. It is very popular with families especially on weekends. Like most of the Kruger rest camps it has not had much of an upgrade for many years so the facilities are dated. As international guests we consider it part of our Kruger experience but SA people we met think it needs an upgrade. The fridge in our room did not work but on reporting to reception we were moved and we saw that the fridge was replaced the following day. We love the pool which we think is the best in Kruger.

We stayed in their lowest cost option which was a room with 2 single beds. Unit 60. Very cramped. Have to stack the chairs to close the doors. Hinge on screen door broken which led to an altercation with a monkey... Washing machines for entire camp broken. 2 plate stoves in shared kitchen no heat control. Birdlife in camp amazing. The bush around camp very dense making animal sightings poor. But we had an amazing leopard sighting.

The rest camp is well managed and clean. The shop has ample stock of almost anything that you might need or forgot to pack. We were camping and the ablutions are regularly cleaned and there are always enough toilet paper. Be aware of monkeys that roam freely in the camp, store away any foodstuff and cutlery when not used especially when you are not around your camping site or chalet otherwise you might get a nasty surprise that stuff were raided by monkeys. The swimming pool area is nice and clean.

Pretoriuskop restcamp is in a terrible condition. The gras inside the camp is knee high and looks like it has not been cut in a year.
Only a Wimpy restuarant for food is available which is very unpleasant. The shop is dirty.
Gross neglect, what a disappointment!

Pretoriuskop is an average camp - a bit old, but still nice to stay in. Unfortunately we will not return. Loud music emanating from the staff accommodation in the evening was a sad distraction from the otherwise pristine natural environment. This seems to be ongoing, despite several complaints being lodged in the complaints book over an extended period of time. Nowhere in the world would it be acceptable for tourism staff to play loud music at the cost of guests’ enjoyment.
Management should be ashamed for not addressing the matter.

Stayed for 5 nights. Accommodation was ok, but staff village situated next to the camp's Western border plays loud music with shouting and screaming until very late at night (4 out of the 5 nights that we stayed). If you choose to enjoy the Kruger park's peace and quiet, this is not the place for you. Will not stay there again.

The units are totally run down compared to what they used to be a long time ago. The people made so much noise which never happened in the past. The Kruger is supposed to be a quiet and peaceful place but at night we could hear loud party music coming from the staff quarters. I was so shocked. The units were run down and we had to be moved to a different unit which was equally as bad. The beds were terribly uncomfortable. The beds are very old and should have been relaced long ago.I would highly recommend staying at any other camp. The best camps, in my opinion, are Tamboti, Biyamiti, and Lower Sabie. Avoid Pretoriuskop at all costs. I was truly shocked.

The hut was the same I stayed in many times when young. Quiet, many birds, tarentaal (guinea fowl) all round that visit all day long. Squirrels, vervet monkeys. (can be a nuisance) just don't feed them.
There are other rest camps. They all have their special points . Enjoy while you can.

Lovely campsite, We opted for a last minute Kruger Hit and run through a few campsites, and Pretoriaskop was our last night

The campsite is lovely, Ablutions were great and clean, each site has power and a braai facility.

Staff from checkin and moving around was great and vert helpful.
The walking track could use a bit of work and maintenance and general maintenance on the site but it seems they are busy with a few things here and there.

overall we had a great experience and would 100% go back to stay at Pretotiaskop.

one drawback is we struggled to see wildlife around the camp

We were staying in a hut without a private kitchenette and used the communal kitchen. In the communal kitchen there are no plates, pots, pans or cutlery available. I am not sure about the huts with private kitchenette.

The Camp is completely fenced, so no risk with (dangerous) animals. Of course, the odd monkey could come into the camp, but this is at most a nuisance, not a risk.

Yes but you need an adaptor similar to that used for caravan power. Best of luck and enjoy
