Let's get into this property. Greeted with the regal cheetah satutes which set the tone for the remainder of the property. Set on the outskirts of the Krueger National Park this property is secluded with regal elegance. I was fortunate to have The Lodge Royal Suite where the word known artist Bono of U2 stayed. Not many can say they share the bed with Bono. This is more like a mini villa, with a large living room area that surrounded you with climatic art. The double beds on one side gave privacy to the primary suite on the other side which was just beyond the private kitchen. There were 3 lovely soaking tubes including one on the large outdoor lounge. I woke one morning to several animals gazing around the suite. The grounds are secured with specialty fencing so you do have a sense of safety. The esthetic allows you to capture everything in its natural environment. Again the staff here was amazing. I could not tell this property was full as each of the accommodations was well distributed to offer privacy. I have the pleasure of dining near the water hole where an elephant graced me with their presence while I ate this gourmet mushroom soup while sipping on a sparking rose`. The guide for the game drive was very educated and we were able to see 4 of the big 5 on our first day. After vetting this property in our agency's portfolio we are happy to know there's nothing else like it. I settle up after my laundry was delivered and was off to make my way to another property of the Royal Portfolio. Thank you from Vanessa at Global Luxury Travel.

I will start by saying that this was the best travel experience my husband and I have ever had. I had very high expectations for our first safari, as I had spent much time researching and landed on the Royal Malewane. My expectations were met and surpassed. It is quite expensive, but we felt it was worth it to get the experience of a lifetime. There was one thing I was surprised by, but it wasn't a problem once I got used to it. I was expecting there to be animals just roaming around all over the place, but apparently that is what the Serengeti is like and not the Kruger and surrounding reserves. It was incredibly satisfying to track a certain animal and then find it after going off road, with our tracker Bennett using his machete to chop down major branches so that we could get through. They only allow a max of 2 vehicles to be near any animals, so there is never the feeling of being at Disney World with 20 vehicles descending once they are notified of an animal's location. It was a very private experience which was what I wanted. Our room and setting over the watering hole was awesome, the common areas were beautiful, the food was amazing and every person with whom we interacted was warm and genuine.

I usually don't go on about individual people, but this is the first time I will do that as our experience wouldn't have been what it was without the interactions we had with each and every wonderful person who works there. First and foremost, Nicola and Bennett were perfect. They clearly have a partnership that is seamless. Nicola's knowledge of anything and everything connected to animals, birds and anything connected to the safari experience was beyond anything I expected. We always felt safe with them and they had a game plan for each drive. We saw the Big 5 and so much more! The managers with whom we interacted, Kielan, Danie and Nick were each down to earth and very enjoyable to talk with. Archie and his team did an amazing job with the food! Each person has a menu personalized to their likes and we were so well taken care of. The Braai under the stars was a special treat. Haley is one of the most genuine and big-hearted persons with whom I have had the the pleasure of meeting. She took care of many special details and is such a warm person - we truly enjoyed any time we spent with her! There were many others whom I could go on about, but suffice it to say this is a perfectly run operation. The Bidens must take good care of their staff, as many of them have been there for 10 years or more. And several were transferred from other Royal Portfolio properties. We stayed at 3 of their properties (Birkenhead House and La Residence, both amazing) and the Royal Portfolio reservationists handled our reservations at 2 other hotels as well as dinner reservations and other suggestions. I've never used a travel agent, as I prefer to do the research and book myself, but I was very happy that Leah was able to coordinate everything for me.

We hope we have the opportunity some day to return with our kids. The only fear would be that they would never be able to top this experience...

Royal Malewane made all my safari dreams come true. The location is stunning, and the rooms are majestic-you feel like royalty. The staff are so exceptional, they don’t feel like employees but more like a loving family sharing their love for the place with you. Each meal is a feast, and the chef Jimmy will tailor the food to your tastes. The safaris are magical - Riann and Shadow were our ranger and tracker, and they went to great lengths to make sure we found all the animals we wanted to see. They also stopped at the most beautiful locations for coffee/cocktails and made sure we felt safe and enjoyed our experience. I learned so much from Riann, who was not only safari ranger of 2019 but knew the stars, plants, and just an encyclopedia of knowledge. There were several managers who took care of us, Tyrren, Melinda, Jasmin - all who make sure that your every want was taken care of within minutes. Ramos loved to share his heritage and family stories at night around the fire pit and just transported us to a fantasy land and time. We look forward to going back and making it a family tradition.

Comfy king bed, luxury linens & pillows, and plush towels (changed every few hours) are top notch. Both terry and silk robes are provided. Slippers, tote bag, snacks, and drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are provided and plentiful. The outlets have multiple plugs to accommodate USA, UK, etc. No need to bring adapters. The jeep provided blankets and binoculars. There is daily laundry service included. This is all crucial given luggage limitations on our charter flight to the lodge.
Our guide, Andre, was overflowing with helpful information and encyclopedic commentary. Our tracker, nicknamed Mumps, had eagle-eyes. From 100 yards away he could spot an owl sitting in a tree. We felt very safe in the bush with these 2 professionals around. Other staff was superb in every way & knew our names, preferences, interests, etc. They functioned very well as a team.
KOSHER FOOD OPTION: Chef Michael’s separate kosher kitchen is divided in half (dairy and meat). Utensils are unique from each other and from the regular items used elsewhere in the lodge. Kosher chicken, steak, rack of lamb, gourmet cheeses & mevushal wines (Beth Din or OU). We turned on the stove/oven and inspected the fresh eggs. Chef Michael takes this very seriously and was most diligent. The food was Manhattan-quality gourmet. Every meal was a culinary masterpiece prepared to our precise specifications with individualized menus/options. Yes, he will prepares custom service for one.

Royal Malawane was our last stop as part of the Royal Portfolio Itinerary. Each of the four hotels in the Royal Portfolio group are true luxury hotels, with an incredible level of service and individuality. We loved each hotel, but Royal Malawane was probably our favorite because of the safari experience, our first.

We stayed at The Lodge, and for those of you who have Out of Africa movie dreams, you’ll feel as if you fell into a movie set. The individual cottages are so comfortable, with every possible amenity, including a fireplace which will be lit for you while you’re dining in the Lodge, amidst candles and firelight. The food was amazing, and once the staff knows what you like, you’ll find your favorites in your room (don’t miss the chocolate chip cookies). In every way, I felt like a very well cherished guest.

Our safari experiences were amazing, much due to our guide, Conrad, and tracker Kevin. We did see the Big Five, including a leopard that was relentlessly tracked by Kevin . And in addition to game sightings, which were plentiful, Conrad had an incredible knowledge of the bush - plants, birds, insects - as well as stars. One very clear evening , he spent time with us outlining the southern constellations.

We left here saying this was the trip of a lifetime, except it isn’t- we’re returning in May of this year. Returning was the only way I could recover from my sadness at leaving.

Spent 4 days at Royal Malewane in January 2021 after a tour of the other Royal Portfolio hotels in December 2020. Although I thoroughly enjoyed all the other hotels in the group, Malewane was truly impressive and the experience one of a kind, given the location in the Greater Kruger Park and the safari experiences. Service, food, spa, gym etc was 5-star, as expected in a Royal Portfolio resort. The bungalow had a very luxurious African “feel” to it, located just by a watering hole which elephants, buffalos etc routinely visits - very picturesque! Besides that, we had private Landcruiser safaris every morning and afternoon, and our guide Rudi Hulshof was very informative and able to find a wide array of interesting animals and plants on every trip. He was invaluable for us as first time safari tourists and really made the experience so much more enjoyable, and his patience with us as first time safari tourists was applaudable! I think we saw all the “Big 5” on almost all safaris, apart from the elusive and rare white rhinos which we “only” saw twice in four days. But generally, there are tons of fascinating animals around Malewane. There were so many amazing encounters during our safaris I cannot give proper credit - how do you describe what it is like to sit in a open car, 3 meters from a leopard that is feasting on an impala!?!? Overall, Malewane was a fantastic experience that I can greatly recommend.

My family of seven spent three wonderful nights at the Royal Malewane Lodge. It was one of the best experiences we have ever had! The accommodations are luxurious, the service is exceptional; our guide Conrad (and tracker kevin) were knowledgeable, insightful, flexible and helpful. The food was unreal and the chef took particular attention to my daughter who has a nut allergy. The accommodations remind me a traditional safari, think Out of Africa, but with modern conveniences (the shower head was amazing). our dinner in the "bush" was very special and the staff was attentive to every detail. I would strongly recommend.

It is difficult to convey in a few words the luxurious accommodation and beautiful setting provided at Royal Malewane. This is truly a safari experience at the very top end of the market. Everything from the rooms, the food, the game drives and most importantly the staff is 10 star. Royal Malewane sets the bar so high it will be very difficult for any competitors to go any higher.

We stayed at the Farmstead as well as the Lodge. Both are beautiful with the Farmstead decor being modern and the Lodge is classic. Fabulous to experience both. Chef’s are imaginative and engaging to your desires. We tend to like to eat indigenous foods when possible, so it was wonderful to be able to explore that menu along with the traditional fair. South Africa has wonderful coffee. That sounds funny, but its a pleasure we look for in countries we visit. Our safari’s were spectacular each day. This was not our first safari, but it was our best. Our guide Jacques was so impressive and didn’t beat us down by driving roughly. After a long safari day one can appreciate that. I can not impress on the reader enough as to the level of care and attention one receives from the staff. Management is hands on and personable which is a quality present throughout the entire organization. We have been home for 5 days and are already planning our next trip (with friends this time). Flights in and out are fun, fast and simple for travelers and Triumph Travel in SA made our trip simple and precise. Most people view a safari as a once in a lifetime trip, take my word for it, Royal Malewane is the way to go.

Everything! Well, spa treatments were extra, and gift shop items, but wonderful food, drinks, guiding, laundry and extremely friendly accommodating staff are seemingly just waiting to find a way to make you happy. There is an expected gratuity for staff which I do not recall, but happily left more than suggested. Really lovely property.
