Satara is a busy camp, and not without reason. It is situated in an excellent game viewing area, with the bush relatively open and the animals plentiful and diverse. The camp itself has a rustic charm, with the bulk of the accommodation set out in a series of circles. Satara is well wooded and the bird-life is prolific. At night the clink of fruit bats is fused with the chirping of cicadas and crickets. The calls of owls and nightjars add to the symphony that is punctuated intermittently by the whoop of hyena, the screech of jackal and the roars of lion.

We moved to Satara for a few nights after spending the first 3 nights at Lower Sabie and although both camps were great – we absolutely loved Satara’s bungalows: so cozy and peaceful! It was not luxurious by any means but it was comfortable and provided you with everything you needed: outdoor little kitchen was well-equipped - utensils and cookware in good condition, plates and cups were nice, even dish soap/new sponges were provided; braai thoroughly cleaned during daily housekeeping cleaning.
Our perimeter bungalow was clean and functional, with comfy beds and nice linens, good air con, and although the bungalow was on a smaller side (but sooo cozy) – it was the huge fantastic “front yard” where we spent all our time (when not on the road): preparing our meals, listening to the nature and enjoying serenity of the camp! By this time we had out little nice routine figured out: we would wake up at 5, had our coffee while enjoying the sounds of waking up nature, head out for our morning drive for a few hours and either come back “home” for breakfast or, if driven further, – would have breakfast in the next camp. We used their restaurant for breakfast and we thought it had a good breakfast menu and fair prices (and we loved the “rustic” presentation!).
We also used Laundry facility (it was time! :)): both washers and dryers were in excellent working condition and clean and it was really convenient to refresh our clothes after a few weeks of traveling!

PS. We are proud to report that we were fortunate enough to see every animal of “the Big Five”! 4 of them were seen around Lower Sabie as well as Satara but the last one (leopard!) - around Satara!

Unhelpful and unfriendly staff much like in most camps and gates. Anything you ask from them seems like its too much and a burden. We booked Satara as we (professionally and in advance) received an email the Shingdwezi pool was closed. Once checking in at Satara all we received was ‘pool is out of order you can’t use it’. The receptionist would not elqborate as to why it was closed.
Later that day we passed the pool to find it full with guests and fully operational. Very strange..

Book online ahead of time to get the best dates and accommodations. Check-in is at 2pm.
Satara camp bungalows, we high-recommend staying a few nights here as the views are wonderful and the kitchen's are full stocked with cooking equipment, hot water, private bathroom and shower. At the time the price per night was $100 USD for two people.

SANParks has to seriously consider general maintenance and neglect of accommodation at Stanley Guest House, Satara. I could write a list of faulty or missing equipment and utensils. I get a sense of no urgency from management especially when it comes to Park accommodation. It is unfortunate that certain hospitality standards are non existent and one feels ripped off paying a five star rate but receive a 2 star service. Satara area has always been a great area for wildlife sightings and thus the camp is busy year round. It’s time you get what you pay for in accommodation terms and not only for location.

Satara remains one of my favorite camps, although it is getting busier by the year. Accommodation of a variety of types is offered with the Wells Guest house being our favorite for a larger family (6 beds). The shop is well stocked except for medicines, so bring what you need.
Recommended.

The Satara rest camp is very centrally situated in Krugerpark
The chalets are basic but have an old world charm to them.
They were neat tidy and clean.
4/5 because the money you have to pay in the park is probably slightly overpriced for what you are getting

First time back since 2019 and had some remarkable game drives. Camp can get quite busy between 10.00-14.00 as it seems to be a convenient stop off point for day trippers, as there is a restaurant , takeaway and shop and since last being here, now has a really good butchers shop.
We stayed in a cottage by the fence line, as well as great views , had plenty of shade from mature trees, with lots of birdlife. Well equiped , clean and very comfortable, with large verandah and braii.

Hi guys,
We were not lucky. Not much game in the neighbourhood. Plenty burnt fields. The smokes causes a lot of pollution. these fires are good, I presume, but don't overdo it. Animals can not live on burnt ground
The restaurant is good, but not gezellig(cosy)
Bungalows have comfy beds
regards
Schliek.

An excellent camp somewhere near the midway point in Kruger. Great on site facilities with shops, restaurants and coffee.

To be fair, all the rest camps are good in Kruger, however, some are slightly better at things than others. Satara happens to have excellent shoes/eateries in my opinion. Great place to 'pop in' for coffee and re-stock or (if you are lucky enough) spend a bit more time.

The Kruger national park is one of the greatest places on earth. Unfortunately the service, management, food and accommodation may well be the worst on this planet.

We have been going to the Kruger for as long as I can remember and the only constants are the incredible game viewing and progressive decline of standards. My last three visits have had me vowing never to return again. The problem is that in order to fully enjoy the Kruger experience one needs to bite the bullet and put up with all the accommodation woes. On this particular occasion we actually ends up cutting our SANPARKS leg of our journey short and checked into the next door Sabi Sands Game Reserve for the last four nights.

Satara is centrally located in Kruger and the area is renowned for great sightings. We were lucky to see lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, rhino and buffalo driving whilst in the area.

Accommodation: poorly maintained.

Service: lady in reception particularly rude and unpleasant.

Food: do your own catering because the restaurant food is truly diabolical.

Sunset Drive: worthwhile.

Bush braai: excellent and oddly enough catered by the restaurant. This was a highlight if not extremely difficult to organize due to unhelpful staff.

Game viewing: excellent place to find the big cats.

Cleanliness: our housekeeper did a good job with our dilapidated hut.

I would really like the management to take notice. You have been entrusted with one of the greatest treasures on our earth and as such have a massive responsibility to ensure it prospers and continues to protect the incredible biodiversity of the lowveld. Alas you are not fulfilling the mandate and you are rather steadily running the Park into the ground. If you are not able to ensure the smooth running of a rest camp what makes you think you are capable of ensuring the safety of all the living creatures that call Kruger their home?

The average rating is because there is still hope. The bush braai, housekeeping and game viewing made our visit extremely worthwhile and we will be back.
