Mdluli Safari Lodge has garnered accolades for its spacious and immaculate rooms, complete with the luxury of both indoor and outdoor showers, as noted by many guests. The service at the lodge is generally celebrated for its professionalism and warmth, though it's not without the occasional critique suggesting there's room to enhance the guest experience. The ambiance of the lodge is a harmonious blend of luxury amidst nature, with beautifully appointed common areas that impress visitors. While the lodge's amenities and cleanliness receive high marks for their luxury and meticulous upkeep, opinions on value vary, with some guests finding the experience to be a good deal and others taken aback by unexpected costs.

Let me tell you about Mdluli safari lodge, but first let me also tell you that this review is unlike other reviews. I am not a bloggers that paid to come for free and write the review in return , this is what makes my review real and genuine.
Location, the lodge is 5 hours out of JHB, which makes it a reasonable drive, out of the city . The check in was quick, we were welcomed with with fresh juice. We literality spotted male elephant upon our arrival, just outside the lodge gate. One of the staff members assists you with your luggage and drives you on golf cart to your amazing, luxury tent.
The lodge is pretty new , it was opened just before covid, so you can imagine that in the past 2 years there was not much activity, therefore the facility is new .
The tents are like any 5 stars hotel room , very spacious, nice patio where you can sit outside in the afternoon with glass of wine , decent space as a "living room" . The size of the shower is also spacious (you don't touch the wall when you bend) as well as the toilet. The bed is huge and so comfortable, the linen are soft and warm.
For those that cannot live without coffee, there is no espresso machine in the tent (you can order a room service cappuccino or bring a small Nespresso machine with you).
The Dining room is huge, you have enough space and privacy between yourself and other guests. It's overlooking the Kruger park , so you can sit and relax whilst enjoying the beauty of creation.
The lodge has a Boma area, sometimes the dinner will be there. The Boma area is unique , it's overlooking the Kruger park and you eat underneath a "blanket" of stars and the moonlight , there are small lanterns on each tables that contribute to amazing intimate atmosphere.
Its doesn't matter if you are there for breakfast, lunch or dinner , there is a variety of fresh food.
You have a bar area that also overlooks the Kruger park where you can enjoy a drink in a relaxed environment.
I would add, a pool / billiard table and dart board.
The swimming pool is well designed, and also overlooks the Kruger, in the afternoon you might see wild animals coming to the nearby waterholes which are close to the lodge. The swimming pool has nice shallow area, if you don't want to wet your full body and only have light dip, or if you wish you can just jump in and enjoy.
The staff are very service orientated, and from what I understand they all from the community nearby .
I was spoiled with a Swedish and foot massage (it was so good that I fell a sleep, a definite must do )
The lodge offer game drives with professional ranges, the advantage is that the rangers are able to explain and give you information about the Kruger, the wild life and the vegetation that you won't be privy to doing a self drive, however you can either drive in the Kruger by yourself to save cost , or the add a few rand and enjoy a professional guide. I have pictures but didn't loaded them as yet, I did post a Video on the web, so people can get the feel, before I book accommodation, I like to see how the place look like.

Very beautiful and comfortably furnished lodge on the edge of the Kruger National Park (access is between the inner and outer park gates, the lodge itself is about 5km into the park). The staff is very friendly and the tents are very comfortably furnished! The pool is exceptionally beautiful and you have the best view of the waterhole in front of it with all kinds of animals!
To ensure you feel absolutely safe, the lodge offers security escort for its guests outside the park to minimize any risk! We always felt absolutely safe and comfortable!

Lovely place in Kruger Park. The rooms are big with a living space that has a writing desk, couch and coffee table. Big beds, con't remember the last time i slept in such a big bed. Behind the bed was an area with storage for luggage, double sinks, shower and seperate toilet. Really enjoyed staying here and hanging out on the swinging chair on the deck. Food was really good and the Safari's were incredible

I recently stayed at the Mdluli Safari Lodge and felt compelled to write a review to share some issues that were troubling. Although the tents were lovely and the grounds well kept, that is about the only positive thing my group would say about our experience at Mdluli.
I specifically booked the all-inclusive package with game drives included and pre-paid all fees, yet we were nickel and dimed for everything, even water with dinner.
Our first game drive was with a guide who spent most of his time talking/texing on his phone and circling the same watering hole for an hour.
The food was eatible but with very limited quantities and there were often multiple staff members standing around rather than attending to dirty plates and food refills.
At the end of our stay, I was presented with a bill for truck/gate fees, which I questioned, as all costs should have been included in my package. I could not get a manager to help clear this up.
Upon my return home I emailed my contact person only to be told she didn't work there anymore and "sorry she didn't send all the information about what wasn't included in my all-inclusive ".
My complaint went all the way to the GM, who also just brushed it off with a bogus explanation.
This has left me with a very bad impression of the Mdluli Lodge and how it is run, which is so sad as it is a beautiful location and has much potential.

Lodge looks nice on arrival but then the problems starts. Tents are very spacious but lacking maintanence e.g. door wasn't lockable, towel rail hang loosely on a screw. Staff is polite but doesn't seem to be interested or not trained to solve problems. Breakfast buffet was average and no attention paid to refill empty platters. Boma dinner on the other hand offered a lot of choices Game drives through the lodge was particular disappointing. The bush is dense and the grass is high so it is difficult to spot anything, at least in March. The ranger was yawning non-stop and couldn't care less. Included sundowners were charged to the room by mistake. If one doesn't look to closely lodge looks ok but there is room to grow.

We booked to go to the Lodge to celebrate family birthdays and were very pleasantly surprised at how good everything was. Love the design and layout of the open areas and the tented rooms exceeded our expectations. Very spacious with large comfortable beds, double basins and inside and outside showers. Food quality and variety was also excellent. We will definitely be back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mdluli Safari Lodge. We were given fruit cocktails upon arrival and the staff at the reception were smartly attired and very friendly and efficient. The meals were delicious & the restaurant staff were always at the ready to assist us. We were very fortunate in having the elephants to entertain us at the pool area. Facts to note:- this lodge is not in Kruger National Park itself, therefore you'd need to pay to enter the park every day if you are in your own vehicle. Units 6, 7 & 8 are far too close together. We would recommend staying in any of the others. We were not offered the renowned Eggs Benedict for breakfast; all meals were buffet.

We were visiting South Africa as a Holiday destination and doing a Safari was one of main parts of the Holiday.
We entered Numbi gate and arrived at MdluliSafari lodge. What a beautiful setting just on the edge of the Kruger National Park.
The Lounge and bar area is right opposite a watering hole. We were fortunate enough to see 4 young Giraffes coming to drink at the water hole. The watering can be seen from the pool as well as the dining area.
Our tented rooms were amazing. So spacious, with a huge bed, an indoor and outdoor shower. The outdoor shower needed a bit of TLC as it was dirty and not kept clean.
I felt as though I had gone back in time as there was a writing desk in the side. The windows could be closed with a zip.
The front balcony was great. A swing chair to sit on and listen to the occasional wildlife making sounds. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was great & Boma was excellent.
As to the Game we did 4 out the Big 5.
I would say the time we were there there were controlled fires to stop the vegetation from overgrowing. This in turn may have scared the animal deeper into the Kruger Park.
We did the 3hr drives and paid a little extra for a 4hr drive. We should have done a half or a full day safari for chances of seeing more animals. But what we did see, we can’t be disappointed. Our Driver/guide, Sibu, was quite knowledgeable and tried his best on the game drive. Until next time.

Mdluli has the potential to be exceptional, but is a let down on many fronts.

Positives; The staff are amazing, friendly, helpful and engaging. Rooms are confutable, beds are amazing, well appointed. Luxury inside KNP is always a winner.

Not so positive; Menus and wine list are dog eared and tatty; The food offering is unimaginative; no fresh milk available anywhere(only UHT), no fresh juice with breakfast (in the low veld in citrus season). Buffet items mislabelled at every dinner. The wine list is a lazy slapdash attempt with overpriced mediocre wines.
The game drives are hit and miss, a service provided by an external vendor, and do not compare to the experience of game drives from Sanparks camps.

Overall it is a fairly decent experience, but would expect so much more at the price point

The hotel complex is new and relatively stylish. We had one of the luxury tents. These are very spacious. The breakfast and evening buffets were delicious. The small souvenir shop had a wonderful selection, which I liked the most of all.
The staff were not particularly friendly. In the evening at the bar, for example, you had to make it very clear that you wanted a drink. They didn't come to the table of their own accord.
The tours were what disappointed us the most. This service was obviously outsourced to a service provider. We had the feeling that a fixed tour was being run: stop at the hyena den, then to the lake for an evening or morning drink and then back again. I still find it surprising that we saw a leopard. The worst was the evening tour. This tour was also only led by a guide who drove and held the spotlight at the same time to track down animals in the dark. Apart from the feeling of insecurity, we didn't see any animals on this tour, not surprisingly. But that's probably how it's nice and cheap.
This facility, the most expensive on our tour, really disappointed us.
We then had to pay separately for the entrance fee to Kruger Park for the tours we had already booked and paid for. Even the intervention of our tour operator was unsuccessful.

The accommodation and grounds are extremely safe. The only animals we saw within the grounds were tiny lizards and tortoises. There is an electric fence around the entire property so no lions. The tents themselves have zipped windows at the sides which have an outside mesh to prevent insects coming in. When we travelled (April) there were notably few insects.
