Marc's Treehouse Lodge is located closer to Kruger (30 or so minutes), and where you stay after starting your safari on the private game reserves. They're obviously known for their treehouses, which are very rustic - and keep in mind, that only two of the places are the actual treehouses up in the tree (and have a bathroom down the stairs outside the place), and the others are on the ground, but have bathrooms inside. I stayed in the latter, and it was a basic, rustic experience. The bed was very comfortable and the staff was very friendly - and there are ton of baboons and impala around that aren't scared of you at all - a very unique experience overall.

Hi Jessica Thanks for a great review. We are thrilled that you liked your treehouse. As a result of floods many years ago we lost 3 genuine treehouses. The fact of the matter is that our insurers advised that all future treehouses would have to be built on the ground. The effect is nonetheless still to offer a RUSTIC feel as you accurately point out. On the plus side, all of the treehouses except for 3 have en suite facilities. We are pleased that you enjoyed a "very unique experience" at Marc's Treehouses. Be well Piero

This place was a little slice of heaven. Our Safari was booked via Viva Safaris and I was extremely impressed with the level of organisation; they had a variety of different groups booked up for different experiences and at different types of accommodations and yet our entire experience went seamlessly.

When we arrived at Marc's Treehouse Lodge we were given a brief tour and explanation of what to expect before being shown to our room. We opted for a room with an indoor toilet as given that the lodge isn't fenced, my girlfriend was a bit apprehensive about taking midnight trips to the outdoor bathroom. The room itself was quite natural and rustic looking which was right up our street - it was also very spacious. Given that it was winter in South Africa, the rooms were quite cold during the early mornings and late evenings, however, the staff provided lovely thick blankets and I slept like a baby, often listening to the roars of lions off in the distance.

Over the next few days we met all the staff and they couldn't of been more helpful - no task was too great or too small for them to help with. They were all extremely knowledgeable in the area and the animals, providing us with answers to all our questions. I'd like to give a special shout out to Quinton who was an absolute gem of a person, he made our trip and I miss him very much! If you see this Quniton, Thank you!

As mentioned before, the lodge is unfenced which creates quite an exciting experience. The staff informed us that the lights and noise keep the predators at a distance so it's a very safe place. Given the absence of predators, we often saw many prey animals like Impalas wandering the grounds; this provided a unique opportunity to study them at close range.

With the exception of our lunch on full days out at Kruger Park, all our meals were fully catered to by the lodges 3 Mamas. The food was amazing and they always served us with smiles on their faces. That being said, I can only imagine that they were happy to see me leave as I was constantly pestering them for beers from the hotel bar :-)

The safaris themselves were unbelievable days out! The guides were kind, entertaining and extremely knowledgeable in the animals. We saw everything that we wanted to see. Truly an unforgettable experience.

I often get a bit of the holiday blues whenever I leave a destination, but it was a particularly strong sadness I felt when I left Marc's Treehouse Lodge. Thank you to all the staff that helped make this trip an unbelievable experience that I will cherish forever. I hope I can one day return to see you all again!

A friend and I stayed at Marcs Treehouse lodge for a 6 day safari tour and the entire experience was EPIC! The location was breathtaking and if you want to be close to nature, this is the place to book. The staff went above and beyond and were always super friendly and highly organised. Nothing was ever an issue and they did everything with a smile. The treehouses are simply gorgeous...I’ve never slept so well listening to the sounds of the wildlife and flowing river at night.

The game drives were incredible! On our first sunset game drive we were lucky enough to see rhinos up close! A massive shout out to Charl & Jordan... absolutely brilliant guides that are extremely knowledgeable and truly want their guests to see as many animals as possible.

The trips to the Kruger and other reserves were a knockout! We saw so many of the BIG 5... you can’t get much better than that!
The food, drinks, pool and bar were always on point! We cannot fault this place at all. You guys created unforgettable memories! A massive thanks and we’ll be back soon!
Highly recommend Marcs Treehouse Lodge.

Cheers!

Simone & Brian

My wife and I did not feel welcome. People come and go every day and to the staff it's just a job. They do what they have to but no more. Very few smile when passing. We had a tree house that wasn't in a tree the rooms were dark and dank and smelt musty. The lighting was bad and the widow blinds were fixed down and could not be opened. The bed sheets gave the appearance of not being clean and the bath a toilet were grubby. Infact it was all nasty dirty and horrible. I would certainly not want to stay there again. While we were there we were subjected to the inevitably load shedding and there were no auxiliary lighting in the room fortunately I had a torch. Why oh why they can't supply auxiliary lighting especially as led lights are so cheap. The tour around Kruger Park was fine but some three hours in the back of a truck without a break is far too long. I know its not Marc's Treehouse's/Viva Safari's fault but we saw few of the big five and those we did see were from a distance. Meals were tasty but nothing special. Breakfast sausage eggs tomatoes toast and a scones plus cerials and some fruit etc. Evening meals soup rice Bobotie mashed pumpkin followed by apple-less crumble and custard.
All in all well organised but not a nice place to stay. Far too primative for the money.

Hi I regret that you found the treehouses " too primitive". On our website, under Comparison of Venues, it is clearly and unambiguously stated that our treehouses have walls made of reeds and, as such, guests are likely to be affected by inclement weather. During your stay, it rained copiously and, of course, you may have felt that there was a dank and musty feel about your accommodation. It is always difficult to appreciate any accommodation under these extreme conditions. On the positive side, thank you for conceding that we cannot be held responsible for bad luck in not seeing animals close-up. Thanks also for stating that the safari was " well organised". Be well

We arrived in the dark on 23rd August not knowing what we were about to experience.
We were greeted by one of the guides/entertainers who goes by the name of J.B and well what a guy he really is, caring, funny he was literally just amazing. Justice most people we have encountered here in South Africa nothing is ever too much they really go above and beyond.
We were giving a short introduction and briefing about this place which left us feeling vert uneasy and having 3 boys ain't going to lie I was scared.
We walk down the path only lit by lights every so many metres about in the total wild.
The front entrance sign states wild animals but wow this really was an experience I will.never forget!
After being shown our treetop home for the next few days we wondered back to the reception for our dinner, cooked by mumma timber (maybe be misspelt) and J.B lit a fire, such a real sense of community and home. Somewhere amongst us was the hyena and lions calling in the dark petrifying but all the guys on site were there to make sure everyone had a brilliant time and were safe.
After dinner we turned in for the night. Our home stood above a fast flowing river and all the sounds of nature were very prevalent, very cold night but slept well.
In the morning we took a 6 o'clock Bush walk with J.B and as the name suggests yes in the Bush this is where it becomes apparent you really are sleeping in the wild.
Breakfast is served between 7.15-8 closely inspected by the velvet monkeys but again the guides stand by to make sure they dont take too much.

Depending on the length of your stay as to what's planned by visiting national kruger Park has to be an absolute must.
We were taken out directly after breakfast 8 to do the planned activities and brought back again by 6 ready for evening meal at 8 and obviously camp fire included.

There are stories of a black and white male buffalo who lives here with another male and yes we got to see first hand he doesn't like humans but who does (hehe) the antelope walk freely beside of you and yes you hear lions, hyena, baboons but this is all part of the experience and excitement.

Once you get over the initial shock of living breathing the wild and learn to live and appreciate the animals this truly is an amazing opportunity. Everyone on this camp is truly amazing and to be fair everyone that was on our visit was friendly a d genuinely interested and keen to make friends sitting eating and drinking together.
I genuinely didn't want to leave this place I was soo sad to go.
The treetops itself is very basic and don't expect it to be warm in the winter there are blankets provided and once your under its wonderful.
The shower facility isn't great but there are showers in the Bush you can use so fully experience the Bush life.
I came out with 5 year old and 8 year old and although it's hard for them they loved every bit as much as me.

I would highly recommend this place and definitely would come back in the future.

We were warmly welcomed. The tree house was comfortable, we all slept really well. The shower was fabulous with great water pressure. There are a million bugs, but nets surround the beds, it’s just about minimal lights on. The meals were great, as was the company of so many interesting travellers. The staff are great, friendly and helpful. The guides are amazing with their knowledge. What so impressed me on our departure was the hostess actually coming to the bus to say goodbye to all of us.

We went to the lodge with three friends and spent three wonderful days there. All staff were always extremely friendly and answered all our questions. The Sunset Safari and the Bush Walk were an incredible experience: we saw a great number of animals and the ranger has extensive knowledge. We were deliciously cooked and could end the evening with a beer at the campfire. The accommodation was very nice - we did not lack anything.
We would come back immediately and have recommended this lodge to our friends many times!

I spent 4 days with Viva Safaris one night Tremisana and 2 nights at Marc's Treehouse lodge. While I enjoyed Tremisana and the drives and bushwalk at Balule with Yuri and Smilie Halali I really was looking forward to my treehouse experience. I was not at all disappointed. Having been camping in the African Bush and desert for the last weeks my treehouse (no 4) was pure luxury and so spacious. I enjoyed my terrace overlooking the river and being greeted by a male Nyala in the morning was amazing. The second night the sound of the bush was almost overwhelming with many animals making themselves heard and hyenas calling very close by. On the morning bush walk with Yuri we indeed found tracks of hyena, buffalo and leopard. The ladies at Marc's did a fantastic job with tasty dinners and breakfasts around a large table which felt like family meals.
Special thanks go to Patrick for our Kruger drive. We did see a lot of animals and seeing 3 different cats in one day was amazing - 9 lions and the illusive leopard and a cheetah.
My Marc's Treehouse stay was the perfect end to an amazing African holiday.
I will be back sometime.

Hi Birgit Thanks for an AMAZING and not so short review ! We are pleased that you enjoyed Tremisana Lodge and Yuri and Smiley (Elias) and that Marc's Treehouses did not disappoint. It is a unique destination and your interaction with the Nyala bull and the calls of the African bush are memories that you will never forget ! The whooping of a hyena in the still of the night is one of the highlights of Africa. You were spoiled by Patrick in Kruger - it is not every day that our clients see lions, cheetah and leopard on the same day - well done ! We are thrilled to read that your experience at Marc's Trehouse Lodge was the " perfect end to an amazing African holiday". We extend a heartfelt thanks and look forward to welcoming you again.

Amazing stay! We stayed in one of the tents and it was great to hear the wildlife at night, we had a few nights of rain but the tent kept out all the water! The trips are very well organised and you get an update of the plan each evening at dinner! Quinton gave us a very informative bush walk on our last day. The food was delicious and the ladies cooking and serving are so friendly. I would 100% recommend this stay!

The tented section has a communal bathroom. But don't let that stop you!!!. Such an amazing experience being greeted on arrival by giraffes and impalas, and lying in bed and hearing the lions.... Definitely worth the small inconvenience of walking a few metres to the bathroom.
