The lodge is around an hour and a halfs drive from the airport, but as the second part of the drive is through the park this seems to fly by. Upon arrival we were greeted in reception with a complimentary orange juice. Unfortunately orange juice gives my my girlfriend a migrane and she therefore asked if she could have a water instead, one duly arrived... along with the bill! Not exactly the warmest of greetings. Next we were shown the board, this gives details of the itinery, including the times of game drives, meals and afternoon tea. We were given the key to our chalet and off we went to unpack. There was no further explanation of the facilities, of where things were or anything. We were feeling pretty underwhelmed by the welcome.

The chalet was very nice with a large bed, a good sized bathroom with a bath and an outdoor shower.

The types of meals provided varied depending on how many people were at the lodge. Our first meal was cooked as there were only 4 of us in the lodge, but the following day a large party arived and the meals reverted to buffet style. Mostly there was a good selection but if things ran out it would often take a while to be remedid even if it was something as simple as a clean coffee mug.

The game drives, and lets face it thats what you come for, were fabulous, our ranger Mpolo was extremely knowledable and would stop at nothing to get you to a certain place to see something. A couple of highlights were driving like a bat out of hell in the darkness to see a lion kill and then having the truck at a 45 degree angle on a banking to get the best view and finding a cheetah kill out in the middle of knowhere again after driving like Colin McRae to get there.

We saw the big 5 pretty early on but there are a vast array of other animals close to the lodge in the park. Sitting in the bath while watching herds of elephants roam by is pretty special.

My overall impression was that although we had a great time on safari we could have had an even better time. For example we had no idea there was a downstairs area with a TV room or even a swimming pool as nobody from the hotel had mentioned this to us.

5 stars for the game drives and 3 stars for the staff.

Located on a private piece of land in the South Eastern corner of the Kruger National Park, this hotel offers you a break close to nature.
The swimming pool became an absolute must visit, due the temperature peaking higher than 40 degrees Celsius. Although spa facilities were offered, we preferred to be with nature. Animals were seen on each of the two daily game drives, the big 5 (buffalo, elephant, lion, leopard and white rhinoceros) were spotted, on 1 day. The game drives are not only a time to spot animals in their natural environment but also a time to be educated about the behaviour of the animals. Being a control freak the importance of having your own spot light / torch on the evening game drive is a must.
The rooms are fitted with all the guest requirements of a 4 star hotel, including a bed mosquito net. All the rooms faced the National Park and we were fortunate to see a herd of elephants from our balcony. See picture attached.
The staff, picture attached, are well trained and extremely friendly, their efforts to serve could seen in all their actions. Guests must come with an appetite of a lion because the meal portions are large.

My friends and I stayed in Shishangeni in December as a part of our African safari experience. On arrival, we were greeted by friendly faces and refreshing drinks. The hotel staff took our bags to our rooms and our host showed us around the lodging and explained about safari tours. He told us about the animals we might see and showed us pictures of past sightings. We then went to our rooms to freshen up. Our rooms were great (spacious and very clean with A/C and hot water - there were a few bugs as expected since we are in the park). We then got ready afternoon tea and set off on our first (of 4) game drive. Our safari guide was excellent (he had an amazing eye and spotted animals in the distance - we saw lions, elephants, rhinos, hyenas, giraffes, baboons, vultures, buffalos, boars, a python, and so many more). We got back for dinner; all the food served at Shishangeni was excellent and freshly cooked by the chefs.

Apart from what we expected, the staff went above and beyond to insure that our stay was excellent. Our friend got sick during our stay at Shishangeni, and the staff looked over him while the rest of us when on the game drive, providing him with juices and checking on him frequently (they even offered to drive him out of the park to a nearby hospital). The staff even made sure that the bugs and monkeys and snakes in the parks were not a problem for us, walking us back to our rooms in the night when we needed it.

Overall, our experience was great and we would highly recommend Shishangeni at anyone who wants to experience the African safari. We recommend at least 2 days minimum in the park to get a chance to see most of the big 5 animals.

We were at Shishangeni, Camp Shawu after Christmas and absolutely LOVED our time spent here. The staff were such kind, generous, wonderful people they truly made the experience. We felt safe, ate great food and were very appreciative of our time spent. The safari experience was AMAZING as well.

There was another family staying at Camp Shawu that was very ungrateful, and not nice to the staff. There were truly no complaints to staying here at all. The woman wore heels and cashmere on safari, so that might just sum up that type of costumer.

We hope that BON pays their workers well since they certainly are what makes Camp Shawu a wonderful place to stay

We stayed last month at the Shishangeni for a 3 day safari and cannot say enough good things about it! Amazing staff that are eager to please. The food was excellent. The accommodations were first class and our safari experience could not have been better. Our guide was attentive to our needs and we were easily able to see the big 5 and a whole lot more.

The lodge is located within Kruger but on it's own private area of land. You don't see other groups on your safaris and it's beautifully quiet and serene. I've been on other safaris in Kenya and they don't come close to our experience in Kruger and at Shishangeni.

Our room was spacious and immaculate and the had some of the best sleep ever there.

When we return we will ALWAYS stay here and would never consider anywhere else. The manager, Chris, was friendly, hospitable, welcoming, and knows how to run a resort in an eco friendly way that still puts customers first.

We simply can't say enough good things about the resort and our experience.

We stayed at Camp Shawu at the beginning of July 2022. From the moment we arrived we felt very welcome. . For me personally it was nice to be in a satellite camp with no wifi and being able to disconnect from the outside world for a few days and be at one with nature. The camp itself it simple yet luxurious. It has an outdoor shower which is amazing to overlook the dam and watch the animals come to drink. Every day we were treated to a herd of elephants which came down to cool off. The game drives were out of this world. Our game driver Sifiso was the best, knowledgeable, friendly and made us feel very comfortable, he even looked great in my partners fluffy hat. He went above and beyond to give us all the best sightings and we were not disappointed we saw all of the big 5 and much more. We had the game drives to ourselves as we were the only ones at the resort the time of our stay. All of the staff took care of us so well and come meal times we never went hungry. The food was very nice and came in large portions, to the point i felt bad not being able to clear my plate. Our whole stay was amazing and we would definitely come back here again. The only thing i would mention which is not a bad thing in my view but if you are one who struggles to sleep with noise around you, the hippos are very active and vocal throughout the night. We would like to thank all the staff for taking care of us and making this trip one we will remember forever,

We stayed 2 nights from Dec 31 to Dec 2. Our reservation was not held correctly, we wanted to be in the main lodge to meet people and for the AC in the summer season. Our reservation was not respected, even though I emailed to confirm, so we were put in the smaller lodge with no AC. Pool was closed (filled with green dirty water) electricity went out on two occasions for 3+ hours so the one fan could not run to keep us cool during 95F/35C temps. Poor staff communication - Our camp manager over multiple days sent different guests to use the wifi in the main lodge even though it was down the entire 3 days of our stay, he did not check before having us take a 40 min round trip ride.

Property was not well cared for: In both the main and smaller lodge outdoor furniture was not arranged, cushions were not put out and there were cigarette butts left on tables (not in ash tray) from the prior evening at 11 AM the following day. One guest moved to our camp because there was mold in his families' room in the main lodge. Hot water was not connected to the outdoor shower, not an issue for us due to the heat but would be a problem in cooler evening temperatures. This hotel is not worth the money, we would have been better off in the National Park lodging. The animals were amazing and the guides were nice but you will get that at the National Park Lodging as well. Do not stay here.

Camp Shawu was beyond our expectations. Absolutely out of this world! It is a luxury camp situated on a watering hole and you can wake up to tons of wildlife everyday. The rooms are extremely comfortable and the chef, the staff, everyone was extremely accommodating. The service was impeccable.

The safaris and private guide Sifiso was phenomenal. We were lucky to capture some rare sightings snd Sifiso tailored our safari to what we wanted to see and experience most.

Shishangeni has a private concession and so they have access to more area of Kruger Park than others. Many of our sightings took place within the concession.

There were 15 of us (from Canada, the UK, US and a couple other places) and I can not stress how there was not one hiccup and each of us thoroughly enjoyed our time (some stayed at Camp Shawu and some stayed at Shishangeni Lodge). From start to finish Like, the GM, Sifiso, Kim (for airport transfers) and the entire staff made our stay incredible.

You will not regret your Kruger Park experience if you stay here. Thank you Shishangeni so so so much!!

My family and I went into a Bush escape at Shishangeni Lodge, and I must say from the moment we got there , we were welcomed with warm hearts and cheerful faces. We had an amazing tour guide , by the name of Sfiso Dlamini who was very educational and friendly. He went an extra mile on making sure we see the big five & certainly we did. When we got back from the game drives we were welcomed by lovely staff for dining, Chef Steven’s food was mouth watering and delicious. We enjoyed our stay and our meals . Overall we had a wonder experience. I would gladly recommend this lodge.

Friendly staff with great smile :-) The General Manager knows how to make guests feel confortable. The ranger Texson is a very good guide and ready to assist for seeing the Big 5 + any other animals you wish to discover. He goes deep into the bush to make sure we won't miss any pictures.
The lodge is in a very strategic place in Kruger Parc where you can encounter most of species.
The rooms are clean and well equipped with fridge, tea/coffee and complimentary water.

The camp overlooks a dam rather than the Crocodile River. There have been good rains this week and there is water in the dam. A lot of animals come to the dam. We had lions, buffalo, hippo, waterbuck all in a quick one day visit this week.
Answer from GM S
Hi, the idea is U plan to arrive for lunch, take in the late drive that afternoon, and on day of departure, leave after breakfast, after the morning drive, equating to 2 drives per day. Remember to plan Ur trip accordingly, & bear in mind Kruger gate times, we don't control that side? Thx, Chris, GM.
