Tsendze, the Tsonga word for 'tsendzeleka' or 'to ramble around like someone lost in the bush' is the newest accommodation addition to the Kruger National Park. As its name implies, it provides a rustic experience within the natural environment. Located approximately 7 km south of Mopani Rest Camp, the campsites are laid out in a rough figure of eight under and around stands of ancient and beautiful Leadwood, Mopane and Apple Leaf trees. Two prominent seasonal water courses, the Tsendze River and Nshawu Creek, run through this area that is known for the large buffalo herds and many elephant bulls that occur here. Guests can look out for 'Alexander', a current big tusker with rather impressive ivory, who is often encountered in the area and along the main tarred route between Tsendze and Mopani Rest Camp. With its abundance of large trees in the camp, Tsendze offers great birding opportunities right around your very campsite.

Detailed Reviews
This was our favourite camp in Kruger during our trip. They allocate campsites and each campsite has plenty of space and shade making it feel as though you were wild camping at times. Shared ablutions but they were clean, and had mosquito nets throughout ablutions and so very bug free in there.
This is a fenced campsite with black-backed jackal and elephants coming in close to the fence. Lots of birdlife too which we loved.
FYI:
You have to check in at Serondela for Tsendze.
No WiFi available here

My favorite campsite in Kruger remains Tsendze. 40 large treed camp sites, some next to the fence, each with braai and tap. Roger and Helena are great guests and take pride in showing you the resident scops and banded owls. Try to visit out of season as it can get busy. In school holidays, the picnic spot next to the camp can get noisy at day, so prevent taking the stands next to the picnic site.
The ablutions are clean, modern and enough for the stands. Novel outside showers.
The camp is very close to Mopani camp site which has a fantastic restaurant on the dam, fully stock shop and best of all a fantastic pool.

This is still the best camp site in the Kruger, preferably for only one familiy or couple on a stand. The camp is quiet, there is no shop and no electricity. Generators and noise of any kind is not allowed and even frowned on. No bicycles, roller scates etc allowed. Lights at camp sites should be kept at a minimum as not to disturb the bush experience of campers near you. Book in a Mopani Rest Camp first, to get your stand number. If silence is not your thing, this camp in NOT for you!

Staff couldn’t be more helpful. They even pointed out two locations with resident owls. Lovely, shaded, spacious campsites. Terrific ablution and kitchen block. Immaculate. Wish there were more game in the area, but we will always include this sweet camping spot on any future trips to Kruger

It was our first time in Tsendze and what an experience. We are welcomed with open arms by the friendly Roger and Selina. Every morning they came to say good morning and in the evenings good night. They were strangers and we left as friends. Under a starry sky with the night sounds of elephants trumpeting, hippos snorting, hyenas and barn owls calling in the night and bring calmness in our minds. At sunrise and sunset, Mooiplaasdam rewarded us with memories of a abundance of roaming game. We were even so lucky to see Alexander the tusker. Tsendze will definitely see us again.

Medium to large camp sites nestled among the natural bush. Many are secluded and offer a fair amount of privacy. The care-takers are very friendly, checking each evening to ensure that all the guests have arrived in camp. This is a rustic camp site with no electricity and this makes for a very peaceful getaway... No generators allowed! The ablutions have gas geysers, so you are guaranteed a hot shower.
The camp is protected by electric fencing and strong gate which you need to open and close on arrival. But this did not keep an elephant bull out of the camp overnight - he flattened the fence and spent the evening roaming around inside. So take care and be on the lookout when walking around at night.

We recently had a great stay (our first at Tsendze). The camp sites are all well situated in the bush and you don't feel like you are on top of your neighbour as in other campsites. Rodgers (camp superintendent) will show you all the owl's in camp as well as keeping the camp clean. Ablutions are clean with hot water (even outdoor showers). Great for a peaceful family getaway. Will definitely be back.

This camp is truly rustic with no electricity. The camp is private with well maintained ablution facilities. It offers solar power for lighting and gas for hot water. Also found the freezer quite helpful.

It is the one camp in Kruger where one can pre-book your site. I did quite a lot of research and found that No3 was the most popular. The site was spotless when we arrived and soon we were set up in the lovely shaded area with the fence a few metres from us. The staff were great and come each evening to enquire how our day been. I mentioned that I loved owls and on three occasions they came to fetch me to see owls they had found in camp.
A walk around the camp revealed that most of the sites were very well shaded and that one would have a great stay no matter where you pitched your tent

I prefer the sites along the river side of the camp , especially the far corner. The shade is better there. The camp is very small. The ablutions are not far regardless where you camp.
