The hosts, Sander and Juliet, made us feel right at home. The room has everything you need and is cleaned daily. Breakfast is great, there's lots to choose from and on request you can even get eggs and bacon. There's an amiable atmosphere: you have your own space but can also lounge in the bar (with a drink), the patio...

Arrived very late as our flight from Jo'burg was cancelled and we had to drive for 6 hours to get to African Rock Lodge. We phoned to say we would be arriving after 9.30pm and had a great welcome, with luggage carried to our room and drink brought for us. Room was a family room with two large beds and...

I would recommand this lodge without any hesitation. Our room was comfortable and well decorated, like the whole lodge by the way... The breakfast was very good. We didn't ordered the dinner braai, but it looked really good. The owners are very helpful and nice. This lodge is located inside a small private game reserve, we didn't expect that !...

The perfect place to stay to explore Kruger and receive excellent hospitality and advice. Sander and his family were great hosts - they made us feel so welcome, provided us with some of the best food we ate during our four week trip and gave invaluable advice to make the most of our trip.

Lovely place with decent size rooms very tastefully decorated. Relative quiet. Lovely setting for a nice meal too, home cooked, and breakfast was also good. Lovely people too, unpretentious kind. Value for money.

We stayed in the African Rock Lodge in Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate for business purposes. The location and services were excellent and the rooms fabulous. The wildlife sounds at night makes you feel welcome in the bushveld.

We stayed only a night here at the end of our 3 week SA holiday but had a really good time and were made to feel really welcome by our gracious hosts Sander and Juliet. The property is set in a very unique residential estate with wildlife roaming free so you can literally drive out and see giraffes and various...

This lodge is located in a very quiet area, which is perfect to relax, unwind and go back to the roots. Everything is made to make you disconnect from the craziness of the outside world: serene surroundings, a beautiful pool where it's great to stay during the day, a beautifully decorated sitting area, very nice and comfortable rooms, tastefully decorated...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
African Rock Lodge offers luxury thatched-roof accommodation with a private patio. It features an heated outdoor pool with sun terrace, a rustic bar, a guest lounge with flat screen TV, and a large braai (bbq) area. All of our four air-conditioned rooms include a seating area and king-sized bed, tea & coffee facilities, mini-bar, Wi-Fi internet and mosquito nets. The en-suite bathrooms have double washbasins, a double shower (normal & rain shower), a bath, toilet and free toiletries. Our accommodation is catered (breakfast). Taking that well-earned break will NEVER be the same without the real "finishing touches" of your hosts (and owners) Sander & Juliet. The Estate has great wildlife populations that roam freely around the lodge. Giraffe, waterbuck, warthog, impala, kudu, blue wildebeest, zebra and nyala are commonly seen. There are no predators on the Estate, which is perfect for walking, driving and mountain biking among the game. There are two elevated thatched hides overlooking water holes on a perennial stream that runs from the main gate in the west.At night the nocturnal wildlife is just as plentiful. The calls of the hyena and the black backed jackal are as loud as the millions of stars in the sky are bright. If you sit outside at the fireside with the lodge lights dimmed you can expect regular visits from porcupines and warthogs while locating the bark of the male impalas in the dark in the rutting season. We offer Bed & Breakfast and/or Dinner Bed & Breakfast. ... more   less
