Excellent venue for a stress relieving break-away in the bush.

The camp layout is tastefully done and well maintained. The 3 rooms are beautifully decorated and separated to ensure privacy - each with own pool and outside shower. The common facilities is modern with excellent views, well equipped kitchen, sitting and boma areas and pool overlooking the river.

Very friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable staff. Our chef Simon prepared very tasteful meals, especially the last night’s dinner in the river bed under candle light. The 2 game drives per day was done by Pieter who is very professional and knowledgable and we took many stunning pictures to remember this unforgettable time.

The camp and people at Machaton know exactly what groups want to experience in the Bush. Morning and evening game drives, incredible layout and serviced rooms, pools in every room and a main pool, and the obligatory fire in the lapa at night.

The Guide and Ranger ran amazing game drive experiences and we were surprised to have the services of a chef in camp also.

This is a real gem off the track that you and your friends need to book today.

We loved every single moment at Machaton Camp. From planning our trip, to our arrival and departure, the staff treated us like royalty. Small surprises awaited us throughout our 4 night stay. The lodge is exquisite in its layout, private and secluded. The splashpools were thorougly enjoyed by our extended family, the kitchen lacked nothing and the view over the riverbed was an absolute treat. Ian our ranger has an eye for the big and small in the veld, which was an absolute treat morning and night. We can highly recommend Machaton camp for a family vacation.

We visited this private camp on a C4 photographic safari. It's a stunning, three suite lodge with large shared entertainment area, boma and kitchen. Usually the lodge is self catering (we had a capable chef with the group). Knowledgeable guides in Ian and Peter. This is the perfect luxury venue. On a river, great overlook, private pools as well as bigger shared one. Highly recommended.

We loved our stay here. The lodge and chalets are very, very nice. Everything was very neat and clean.

Our wildlife sightings were outstanding.

We elected to hire a chef for our stay here but ended up wishing we had self catered. That was honestly the only downside to our stay and it's really no fault of the camp so it's five stars all the way.

Beautiful spacious rooms with a fantastic communal dining and braaing area and a fully equipped kitchen make this a perfect self catering game reserve holiday. Friendly efficient staff light your fire, clean the rooms and do all the washing up. Lovely grounds with a great view over the river. Ian is a great guide who gave us a complete bush experience - all the big and little things pointed out and discussed. Will definitely go back!

Incredible time spent in the bush!!!

Machaton has an incredible location and is a beautiful camp. The exclusive use was such a bonus as we felt completely at home and able to relax 120%. There are currently three rooms, each with a king bed plus a lounge area with a double day bed and a luxurious bathroom. There is a communal lounge, dining area and fireplace with bar. The kitchen is very well equipped.

The river in front of the camp had a reasonable amount of water in it after the rain - great for seeing crocodile, water monitors, and water buck. There is a water hole behind room 2 that was visited by a herd of elephants - stunning!!!

The groundkeepers and housekeeping staff were very friendly and discreet.

Our ranger, Ian, absolutely made our trip - we have been on many game drives in the past and Ian's surpassed all of those experiences. He is passionate about nature and exceptionally knowledgeable. He quickly realised that we are interested in everything - mammals, birds, reptiles, frogs, arthropods!!!! He found the most incredible out-of-the-ordinary things for us, including a grey penduline-tit nest, vultures, honey badgers and fireflies!!! His knowledge, together with the plentiful bird species around camp, make Machaton heaven for any birder.

Highly recommend a stay at Machaton!
