What can I say about this place that hasn't already been said. We had talked about doing a Safari for ages and fate seemed to book us in here at the Vuyani Tented Camp.

From arriving at Hoetspruit airport and being taken to the Camp we were greeted warmly by Andreus who gave us the camp briefing and escorted us to our "room" which was a tent in the trees, only in outer appearance! What can I say we were blown out of the water by what we we greeted with. Straight away you know your not on a normal holiday and it already feels special. Spacious, air conditioned room with large bed storage and mini bar and an adjoining washroom/toilet. Your shower is outside but everything feels extra ordinary. That evening we went out on our first safari and all I can say is wow wow wow.

Your days on the camp have the same format. Wake up call 04:50 for first safari at 05:30 till around 07:30/8. Then it down for breakfast by the pool. You then have time to yourself to chill or do tours. Lunch is around 13:30 and then again its chill time until 16:30 for the evening safari which returns around 19:30 and then it's time to get changed for the evening meal.

The standard of the food is excellent and its all freshly prepared by the chefs who come to tell you what's on offer. All the food is to a high standard and the service from Given was great and informal.

Room service were great your mini bar is constantly stocked and on most occasions you leave your room its back to immaculate when you return.

As to the safari's I don't want to say to much as at the end of the day this is a safari e and although you are on a game reserve you are hoping to see wild animals who don't have a schedule for their appearances, so there are no guarantees that you are going to see everything or anything. So not want to build your hopes up I am not going to go into the safari's in detail. All I will say is that if you get guides like Chad, Jerry and Mpilo, they are fantastic. If it can be found they will find it. So if you have read the gist of this revue from earlier comments you will guess we had a brilliant time.

So in summary what a place and a big thank you to Andreus, Kelly, Johan, Chad, Jerry, Mpilo, Given and all the other staff who made this probably our best and most memorable holiday, so far. I say so far as hopefully we will go back to do it all again and see it it can be bettered, even if it doesn't if it is anything like this. You meet staff on some holidays who are doing their job because it's a job all the staff here seem to do their job with a devoted passion which gives it part of the special factor.

As I said earlier wow, wow, wow!

We recently enjoyed an amazing five day safari at Vuyani tented camp through Secret Escapes. The ‘tent’ accommodation was luxurious and we particularly liked the outside shower, the food was both delicious and plentiful and all the staff were friendly, polite and unendingly helpful. With room for only twelve guests the camp is small and friendly, with meals shared with other guests. The game drives were exciting as we tracked various animals - the reserve has such a surprising variety we were truly spoilt for choice as to what to track! Often we were able to get very close to animals - lions, cheetah, elephants - and always had sufficient time to photograph and observe them, while our knowledgeable guide relayed some interesting information about them. Afternoons were spent relaxing at the resort pool, in our air continued ‘tent’ or on other bookable local excursions. We booked the day trip to The Kruger NP and we really recommend doing this as we loved the vast expanse and large numbers of animals seen, although not in such close proximity as at Vuyani. A guide from Vuyani came along too, as well as the Kruger guide and we enjoyed both a cooked breakfast and lunch, park entry and raised open vehicle for the day, all for a reasonable price. Thoroughly recommend making this trip!

This is a beautiful, intimate camp, which is still relatively new. I think it's main attraction for us and the other guests we spoke to during our visit was the fact that there are currently only 6 rooms with the 7th room under construction. This made for a lovely, personal experience and game trucks that weren't overcrowded, something that can ruin your time on your twice daily safari drives. With a maximum of 6 guests on each truck, there was plenty of room and everyone had wonderful views of any sightings we had. We are regular visitors to Africa, spending 5 weeks per year on safari, resulting in many safari lodges visited and thousands of game drives undertaken.
Whilst there is nothing negative to critique about this lodge and I certainly couldn't not give it 5 stars, for us, having stayed at many 5 star lodges, this isn't quite there as a 5 star lodge. The little things like only having instant coffee in your rooms, no cushions on the outside furniture and only one vegetarian or meat option offered for lunch and evening meals leaves this slightly lacking as a 5 star property. This doesn't mean however, that what they do offer isn't good, it really is. . Kelly does an incredible job managing the lodge and you could not ask for any more with regards to the perfect balance of staff and hospitality her team offers. All the staff here are amazing and their presence is just enough, not too much but always close by if you need something. Moditlo is a beautiful reserve, but it is a fenced reserve. Sadly for us this meant that the wild dogs had escaped under the fence and couldn't return and the female cheetah and her cub had been lured into a neighbouring reserve during a more recent fence erection, leaving just the two older cheetah brothers. There are no buffalo currently as they are in a fenced area within the reserve awaiting a growth in numbers prior to their release next year. During our 5 night stay we saw a total of 5 lions, one herd of elephants, which we saw just the twice and several bull elephants. It is the only reserve we have stayed at for so many nights where we haven't seen leopard. We do accept that leopards are extremely elusive but as previously rehearsed, over so many game drives, this is still unusual. Not surprisingly, there are plenty of plains animals to see here and some of the sightings we had were truly beautiful. I'm just not sure right now that is is a Big 5 reserve. All said and done, we really enjoyed our stay here and due to an offer at the lodge, it was extremely good value for money and should the reserve manage to reinstate their wild dogs and get the necessary licence to bring in more Cheetah, we would return. Thank you for s lovely stay Vuyani.

We are thrilled we were able to create such a memorable holiday for you and your family. We have just had the most amazing week at Vuyani Tented Camp booked with Secret Escapes. From the initial email until we were dropped at the airport nothing was too much trouble.

The rooms are rustic but comfortable and the outdoor shower was an experience, especially when I noticed I was being watched by a bush baby!

The food is lovely and being small with only 6 rooms there is a bond with fellow guests sharing game drives and meals. Kelly and the team make sure everything runs smoothly and you are well looked after.

We went to Kruger for a day which is a long 14.5 hr day but well worth it. We also did the boat trip which was pleasant with beautiful scenery.

The game drives are fantastic and it doesn’t matter that they are 5:00 am starts as it is SO exciting and we were lucky enough to have Chad as our Guide and Oliver as our tracker. Thank you for the most wonderful week with unforgettable memories.

The place is amazing and the treatment as well, you can feel there is “unique”, there is just 7 Lodges.
The staffs are lovely! Mainly the safari guide(Stewart), the cosine chef and the pool house service.
The private reserve its impressive, you can see the big 4 super close and the guide knows everything about the savanna and the animals, they are very kind in terms of “find” the animals that we are expecting.
The main meals are perfect, but we miss the “coffee break” during the activities, because they are long and exhausted until the dinner and there is just “snacks”.
The worst thing that makes us really uncomfortable it was the air conditioner, it wasn’t working, and the lodges are done by wood, so during 10am until 6pm, it’s impossible stay there. Almost half of the stay, this makes us feel that don’t worth the money! (One day, I was sick, and It was so warm and I needed to sleep at the pool..)
Last, but not least, they are not clear about the $ of the activities, and “how it works” to schedule.
We recommended the place, but ask about the $ and activities before go, because you can also schedule with agencies tour if they say that are not possible(mainly with you are not in a big group, like us).

Honestly, this holiday exceeded my expectations beyond belief. From the moment we arrived Mo welcomed us with a big smile, Lani with a delicious drink and Oli with stunning lunch.
The rooms are spacious, everyday we slept like the dead and saw animals from our balcony. The room stewards cleaned the rooms like magic ( because we never saw them) and the snacks were a life saver. Which is shocking because, I have never eaten so much in my life.

The food was spectacular, wildebeest, fillet, kudu and more (we also had a lady who was vegan and the catered to her every need).

The game drives however were the highlight. I have grown up on safari’s and. Can quite positively say I have never seen so many animals in such a short amount of time. The driver (Stewart) was extremely knowledgeable and the tracker Mpilo did a fabulous job and poured the proudest drinks and sunset sundowners making us laugh every day.

The actual venue itself was stunning and the staff was superb especially when we destroyed their table to do a puzzle, they were patient and accommodating, specifically Stan and Clive.

Thank you Vuyani for a spectacular vacation.

Booked for our honeymoon and was absolutely stunning. Don’t be fooled by ‘tented’ the canvas rooms are pure luxury with all the amenities and an outside shower which adds to the character and experience. Two safari trips a day with awesome guides and trackers. Saw all of the big 5 and many many more. Loved the experience and enjoyed dining with the other guests and using the pool and bar areas. Only one tip if staying don’t rely on the early morning wake up call, set an alarm as we nearly missed safari on day 1 and didn’t get a call the following days along with other couples so set your alarm as you don’t want to miss a second of this outstanding experience!

From the chef prepared meals to the clean and cozy cottage feel rooms to the ultimate service from all of the staff, this was the most amazing vacation ever.
The cabin type room has a well stocked refrigerator and snacks along with a double vanity and private outdoor shower connected to the room.
There are two game drives daily. You must request for Stuart and Mpillo as your game driver and spotter. These two went above and beyond to assure we saw the big five and ugly five while providing great knowledge of the bush. By the middle of the week we were able to identify animals by sound of movement through the bush and knew the background of each animal spotted. We were also taught how to track direction of movement by the prints on the ground. They are true masters of the bush.
During each drive you will stop for drinks and snacks. I highly recommend the Amarula hot chocolate! The breakfast starts with fruit, yogurt, granola, and a variety of cereals. While eating this the chef is preparing your eggs, bacon and sausage to your specifications. There were also days with French toast, pancakes, and other treats. The lunch is always full of variety for everyone’s taste and dinner consists of a choice of three entrees along with an appetizer and dessert. The food not only taste amazing but is presented on the plate as if in a 5 star restaurant.
After each game drive we were met by either Lani or Devine with warm lemon towels to freshen up with as we returned to our rooms.
We loved our time at River Lodge and plan for our son and DIL to spend a future holiday there.
Don’t hesitate, just book it and enjoy!

From the moment we arrived until the day we departed we had a memorable and amazing experience at Vuyani River Lodge.
We stayed for 7 all inclusive nights which included 2 games drives per day.
The game drives were incredible. For the morning drives they give you a wake up call at 5.30 am for a 6.00 am start (on return a wonderful buffet breakfast awaits). As other reviews have mentioned, do layer and rug up for the morning drives as they are really chilly. You have the same driver and tracker throughout your stay and our driver Stewart & tracker Mpilo were so knowledgeable and confident. They made the drives interesting, safe and fun. Each day we were asked what we wanted to see and they would try and find it for us and more often than not they would find it, even going off track through the bush following animals which made it even more enjoyable and we did see the big 5. In the mornings you stop after sunrise for a coffee/tea and biscuits, whatever you want and the evening you have sundowner, stopping for, in our instance, an Amarula (a cream liqueur, which I highly recommend), and nibbles, usually overlooking one of the beautiful lakes. The Blue Canyon Reserve is really scenic, lakes and bush with the Drakensburg mountains as a backdrop..great landscape pics to be had.
We did do some other activities available...recommended: Kruger for the day, very different to game reserve as you see herds of animals; Panorama Excursion, River Boat into the canyon and Elephant interaction.

All the staff were friendly and helpful and always available, nothing was too much bother and you were really looked after.
The facilities were fantastic. Communal areas and the pool were clean, lovely and relaxing spaces to be in. Rooms were clean, beds soft and comfortable. The outdoor shower was great and which I enjoyed most at night seeing the stars while showering. The only thing that would have made the room better was to have a power point in the bathroom .
The food was delicious, varied and so plentiful. Every evening there was a selection for the main and any drink you could want was on offer. The Wines were excellent. All meals were served in a communal dining space which was a good way to meet with other guests and discuss the days happenings, they also have a Braai (South African BBQ) twice a week.

This is a trip we will never forget which I would highly recommend.

Having visited vuyani safari lodge back in 2017, it was only right to bring my partner to experience the magic of this place. We decided to go to the river lodge this time and the location and rooms where fantastic, a truly different experience being off the ground and having nature underneath and around you was fantastic and the outdoor shower was an extra bonus. All the staff there are incredible and so attentive, and the food was incredible. Not one part of the trip could we fault. But a special shout out to our amazing guides Jarrod and Direct, without their incredible skills and knowledge we wouldn’t have had so many incredible moments on the drive! The drives are spectacular but their friendliness and determination to find the animals you are wanting to see just makes them all the more special ! They are a massive credit to the vuyani team! We will certainly be back again I hope 🤞🏻

Answer from Bee L

Hi - we went in October and didn’t see or hear one mosquito - there wasn’t much water around, so that may be why. Your bed will have a thick mosquito net and there is mosquito spray in the drawer in the bedroom for your use. Having said that, we did take malaria tablets and wondered why! I’m sure you’ll have a fantastic time - it really is a very special place.

We had two flights with a small wait in Dubai (about 3 hours) and then drove on. The transfer after J-burg is 5.5 hours by car so this is simply the length of the whole journey.
