It was lovely to arrive here to the welcome of the staff from the security guard to reception and then resturant staff, after a 30 hours trip from home, felt like we were home. we had the family lodge, spacious and comfy, felt reassuring to have the mosquito nets- despite not needing them. We loved not having a vast menu to try and choose from, food was tasty and well cooked, and we felt good value. Breakfast very good. Would happily stay here again.

Lovely property and a very pleasant experience in every way. It is situated a bit out of the way - the Blyde River Canyon itself and the famous landmarks are a drive away across the mountain (hence the name is somewhat misleading), but definitely worth coming nonetheless. Setting is beautiful anyway, and the whole lodge tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable (stayed in the loft room in the main building). Service is impecable, and there is a bonus of those zebras, wilderbeast and impalas on the property. Breakfast was delicious and the dinner absolutely fantastic (greatest compliments to the chef), but pricey. It doesn't come included in the accomodation package, so be prepared. Highly recommended all in all.

We spent 2 nights here on our way from Blyde Canyon to Kruger and what a find this is! Met by the resident zebra's (which I think are trained/corralled to come by when people check in). But nevertheless this was such a beautiful sight and one which we saw often during our stay. The room was nicely decorated and had mosquito nets all around the bed. Dinner was served in the open sided dining area complete with bush babies frolicking overhead in the rafters. The meal was a set menu but we found it very delicious and nicely served (salad was self service). The grounds are well kept and we saw various wildlife both in the morning and the evenings. We were the only ones to use the pool during our stay and found it clean and refreshing. All the staff were friendly and helpful and are an asset to the lodge. A perfect location for the Blyde River Dam boat ride being only 15 minutes away. Wish we had more time to stay longer.

We randomly booked into BRCL, looking for solace and peace, following the recent deaths of my elderly parents, who were living in Limpopo. Like us, they loved the beauty of Swadini and the grandeur of the canyon. This lodge turned out to be the perfect choice for us. Upon our arrival, we received the warmest of welcomes from Fortunate and Maria and we were shown to our perfectly appointed room in the main lodge. However, when Vicky learned of our recent bereavement and our desire for peace and tranquility, we were offered an upgrade to the Luxury Cottage, which we gladly accepted. What a perfect haven, it turned out to be. Just what we needed! Suitably private but not isolated, spotlessly clean, so very comfortable, amply spacious and with delightful outlooks onto the gardens and the bush beyond. The roaming wildlife at dawn and dusk daily was a special delight for us.
Delicious breakfasts enjoyed on the veranda and sumptuous dinners in the "lapa", all beautifully prepared by chef Shirley and expertly served by the gracious and friendly Dhu-Dhu.
Based on the genuine hospitality we received, we have no hesitation in recommending Blyde River Canyon Lodge to other travellers to this most beautiful of region.
We have been living in Australia for many years now and our stay at BRCL reminded us of everything that is still good and special about Africa. Thank you for the memories.

The place is beautiful, rooms are too. But the management makes it a place where you have to beware of everything. Diner is really bad with no choice ( one imposed menu ; main with no taste, no good products -appeared defrozen- , ready-made desert ), not well cooked AND the most experience we had in South Africa, even in the best places in Cape Town or Joburg or Hoedspruit. Coffee capsules and small water bottles in the room have a price, but you don’t know about it, until you check out. We asked about zebras, monkeys and other animals. They said to keep an eye. We saw none of them. I understand the lodge has to make money, but the way to do it would be to 1. Change chef 2. Say and write the price of all things ; 3. Take a few minutes to explain if the animals usually come in the time we were there or if they were gone. In short, make as if the guests were welcome.

Dear Anna, Thank you for being our guests and for taking the time to send us your feedback about your recent stay at Blyde River Canyon Lodge. It is always a pleasure to receive compliments highlighting particular positive aspects of the hotel and staff. This is after all, one of the best guidelines to evaluate and improve our services. We accept that we may be criticized but we say it should be fair and factual. When your criticism becomes insulting and defames our business then this can be offensive and there could be repercussions. We are not deceptive, I have run a successful and happy business for 20 years. To respond to your feedback, our chefs are highly competent and have produced wonderful meals throughout the years. Our meals are freshly made and we use the top quality produce available to us. The dinners are a set menu or you can choose to change if it does not suit your dietary requirements. This is in the booking email you receive when you book. Please see below We offer a delicious three course Dinner (set-menu) and consider any dietary requirements that you may have. Pre-booking dinner is kindly requested. Breakfasts and dinners are served at the lodge. 3 Course Dinners = R360.00 per person. This includes three courses, fresh bread, salad, and tea & coffee. We also divide up our meals to serve individual courses. You can book either a starter, main or dessert. Booking one or two courses is also fine. We will need to know in advance to prepare . We serve either Beef, Chicken, Fish, Lamb, Pork, Ostrich, or Vegetarian. Our starters and desserts vary so if there is anything that you don’t eat, please let us know. The price for Starters is R90.00 The price for the Mains is R200.00 children under 10 years R150.00 The price for Desserts is R80.00 If salads and bread rolls are not served with the starters, then these extras will be charged on request. There is filtered water provided in a flask although our tap water is fine to drink, there is a mini bar list in your room if you wish to drink bottled water. There is a card in the capsule box that contains the pricing on it. We have updated the capsule policy and they are now included in the price. Thank you for that valued feedback. The animals are wild and come and go as they please, they do not arrive at a certain time. We do mention to guests that if they would like to walk on the reserve they may have greater chances of seeing the zebras and other animals and look at the beautiful Blyde River. All our guest are welcome. Once again, we are appreciate that you chose to stay with us and look forward to you giving us an opportunity again to have the privilege of serving you.

The location is amazing, in a small reserve shared with a few private houses. We stayed one night and saw a kudu and monkeys. The rooms are beautifully arranged with views on the gardens. The pool did not look very attractive though. For dinner they served the 3-course meal while we booked only the main, but we had it anyway because it was great and the dinner place is quite romantic. The service is also great, everyone very kind and helpful.

Arrival was great, first lady was friendly and full of smiles. The lady by reception was grumpy and didn't greet us.
The Honeymoon suite was smaller than expected. The food was average at best.
The ladies who looked after the rooms and helped with breakfast service were great.

The breakfast and dinner - 2 /3 star at BEST. The cost is EXTREMELY HIGH when compared to a 5 star lodge we went to that was actually cheaper.

Very ice lodging and the pictures are as it appears. We ate breakfast and dinner at the lodge both of the nights were there and the food was really good. As an American we found the food to be inexpensive and much better than we find at home. Just a lovely country.

We stayed just one night after several days in the Kruger and on the way down to Nelspruit via the scenic route.
A friendly greeting and we were escorted to our room, offered the dinner and breakfast menu and settled down to relax in the gardens.
The room itself was compact and comfortable with en suite shower room and ideal for a one night stay.
We saw Zebra and Monkeys roaming the garden and enjoyed the set dinner which was nicely prepared and to our taste.
A lovely place, friendly people and certainly worth a stay in the Blyde River Canyon area.

We stayed here a few times before, and when we go to Kruger Parc, it is a great place to include in your trip. It is very close to `Kruger, as well as the views at God Window etc. The Lodge is is a botanical garden where the zebra’s now and then visit you at the pool! The garden is beautiful, as well as the interior. Dinner and breakfast are served outside in a romantic atmosphere. The food is home cooked, and this time we had a steak, so good and tender, you don’t get it like that in the best steakhouse!! The service is very friendly. We usually plan our trips around beautiful places to stay, and this is one of them!

Unfortunately there is nothing worth mentioning and therefore you become a captive audience and end up paying over R300 per person for a very ordinary meal. Of course drinks are extra !!

There is a small section of road to the lodge that is a dirt road from what i recall but it is a very short section. The road to the Blyde River House is tarred and there is no problem. The cars are locked behind security gates and under cover. No need to worry.

Hi It took about one and a half hours easy motoring. Sealed roads all the way. When you stay there, do leave time (1 day) to do the Panorama route drive. We had a clear and sunny day, stunning scenery and a nice cold beer at Pilgrims Rest. Chris

Please could you give us some directions to come to the lodge from Hoedspruit airport ? Thanks !!!!
Answer from Vicky M
Dear Amelie Thank you for your enquiry. We aree about a 35 minutes drive from eastgate/Hoedspruit Airport. From Eastgate Airport Turn right at the Eastgate airport exit, travel for 5kms. Turn right onto the R40 to Hoedspruit for 6km. Turn left by the Four way stop onto the R527, proceed straight until you reach the side junction (Driehoek), and turn left. Proceed straight until you get to the T-junction and turn left. Drive until you see the side junction and sign for Blyde River Canyon Lodge. Turn Right. Drive 7km. BLYDE RIVER CANYON LODGE will be on your right in the Blyde River Botanical Reserve. We look forward to hearing from you. Regards Vicky Mittan
