Viv and Colin made our stay a memory to enjoy whenever we think about South Africa. We saw our first warthogs while sitting on the patio as they just wandered through reserve. There is a full english breakfast as well as yogurts, fruits and cereals.

The Woodpecker Lodge is in the Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate.. And what is that? A lovely sort of nature reserve - with residences. Woodpecker Lodge has three large guest rooms with huge baths.. It is so quiet and you are actually in the bush. The owners, Vivien and Colin, are friendly.. ready to offer advice on dining, shopping, everything, I've stayed here twice in the past week. I am traveling on business, so I left Hoedspruit for a few days.. and then came right back to Woodpecker Lodge when I needed another night in town. Their spacious patio is available for us, too.. and they even have a guest refrigerator to keep our sauvignon blanc chilled.. and handy! Breakfasts include fruits, yogurts, cereals.. and hot dishes cooked to order..I am in the travel business, and recognize a good value when I see it.. Woodpecker Lodge certainly is!

I would just like to thank Colin and Viv for their hospitality when we stayed their for one night for our Anniversary. You made our stay so special and the environment is amazing. You must definitely come and stay here because there is nothing like waking up in the morning and listening to the Wild Life noises and the Birds chirping. Just waking up in the bush and being in the bush is the best thing you can ever experience. This is what South Africa is all about. Please don't forget to make a booking. To make a booking please phone Colin on 081 008 9301 and Viv on 082 824 2246.

Woodpecker lodge was a last minute booking for us - we booked at 3pm and turned up 45 minutes later! Our hosts Viv and Colin were very welcoming and the lodge is a definite gem. The wildlife around the lodge is abundant and the pool overlooks the bush veld. We had daily visits from the local Warthogs which made our stay extra special. Breakfasts were lovely, which included homemade muffins and flapjacks which my daughter could not get enough of :) We were able to go on a night drive to look for animals on the estate, using spot lights from our hosts - exciting experience. There are no cooking facilities here, but there is an abundance of lovely restaurants close by. Perfect spot for all the local tourist activities in the area, and perfect for lounging by the pool.
