I was in Thornybush Game Losge which was the best life experience I have ever had . Our guide Kilmon and the entire staff were unbelievable . If I can give 100 stars , I would . We visited at the beginning of November . Weather was just right . Slept in Luxury tent listen to the Lions roar . The food was flown in daily fresh and succulent and we ate like Queens !
Do not even hesitate . Worth every penny !we even saw Hyena in the day and a Cheetah live killing an impala then feeding her 5 baby cubs

I will struggle to put into words how great this lodge is. I spent 3 nights here as a solo traveller. Every single member of staff meets you with a smile and a friendly greeting. They were very mindful of offering to join me for meals or giving me the space I wanted. My suite was terrific and when I saw the bed it looked like the most comfortable bed ever and it certainly was. The bath and indoor shower were by a window, so great view and I also made use of the outdoor shower. The food was plentiful and absolutely delicious………I ate sooo much.

This was my first experience of a game drive and any other game drive and lodge will have so much to live up to now. My guide Juan Pierre and Tracker John, were great. They were both so knowledgeable and patient to get us so close to seeing the big 5 and so much more. The experience was one dreams are made of. I really can’t wait to go back again, I couldn’t fault a single thing

We traveled here with our two children (12 and 10) for my wife's special birthday and had such an amazing safari experience at Thornybush.
From the moment you arrive and are greeted with a very warm welcome, every little thing is looked after.
We stayed in a family lodge which was nearly the size of our house in London, beautiful bed and lovely plunge pool.
Our waiter Clinton looked after us for the three days with great attention and a big smile, we felt very privileged to have a private waiter and big call out to the chefs for preparing delicious food.
Our guide was Enock and tracker Freddy who are two lovely chaps, very knowledgeable and really understood what we were looking for. We saw all the big 5 and freddy brought the children off on their own bug tracking hunt which they loved.
The children will remember this trip forever and my wife will always remember her big birthday celebration.
Thanks to all the team at Thornybush.

This is our 2nd visit to this magical lodge and it once again delivered an unforgettable experience. From the moment you arrive and greeted at the lodge to when you leave, you feel special and I commend the entire team at Thornybush on really making their guest feel special.

A special mention to our game ranger - Daniel and our tracker, Frank for providing us with amazing game sightings and to Shepart, our butler, who always had a smile.

The accommodation is world class with stunning views of the bush including a bathroom which looks out on the riverbed and bush. The food is outstanding, but be warned, there is plenty to choose from and eat. The rooms do not have TV so it is a wonderful place to totally break away from the business of the world/

Last but not least, the game viewing is out of this world and whilst not everyone may be as fortunate as we were, the ranger and trackers are very professional and seek to provide their guests with a special experience. We were fortunate to witness a African wild dog hunt chase and devouring their kill whilst fending off two hyenas, lionesses with their cubs, elephant, white rhino, zebras, buffalo including the white buffalo calf, leopard and plenty of birds.

A very special place and we will definitely be back.

What an amazing 3 days we’ve had at Thornybush Game Lodge, this was booked by Giltedge Travel and our experience at Thornybush was simply on an outstanding level. I cannot recommend them highly enough. We were welcomed by Catherine who showed us to our fantastic safari-themed lodge with a wonderful claw foot bath overlooking the wildlife and reserve. There was also an outside shower ( which was unnerving having the baboons watching from the trees !) unfortunately only used once as the baboons decided to swing on it later and broke it. The bed was so comfortable and the standard of cleanliness was superb. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly. At night time we were accompanied to our lodge by trained staff as there were baboons, leopards hyenas and nyalas wondering around.
The food was excellent and again the staff couldn’t be more helpful, we were always hungry for breakfast and dinner after being on a 3 hour safari.

The team that made it for us were Lindi our guide and KG our tracker, she was so knowledgeable of all the animals on the private reserve and was in constant contact at all times with other guides and was able to share locations of sightings. She showed us the Big 5 on the first day we were there. She also took us to see a leopard with its kill up a tree with hyenas laying in wait below for the carcass to fall. Also loved the morning stops for mochachoccarula !

The newly opened spa is a great addition and I had a wonderful relaxing facial and my partner a neck and back massage we were welcomed and given a fresh fruit drink and shown around. I joined a yoga session the following morning.

Such a memorable trip and some truly precious moments. Our time with the Lions, Rhinos, Giraffes, Elephants and Leopards was an immense privilege, we will remember for a long time.

We are elated to hear about your incredible experience at Thornybush Game Lodge, and we are deeply grateful for your outstanding review. It was our pleasure to welcome you, and we're delighted that you had an outstanding experience. The warm reception led by Catherine and the captivating safari-themed lodge is an experience we're thrilled you enjoyed. While the baboons' unexpected interaction with your outdoor shower was unfortunate, we're pleased to hear that the lodge's comfort and cleanliness left a lasting impression. Our staff's warm and accommodating nature, especially in guiding you safely to your lodge amidst the presence of wildlife, truly underscores their commitment to ensuring your safety and well-being. It's wonderful to learn that you found our cuisine to be excellent and were ready to savour breakfast and dinner after your adventurous safaris. Lindi, your guide, and KG, your tracker, made an exceptional team, providing you with their extensive knowledge and expertise, paired with incredible wildlife sightings, which made your safari truly special. The addition of our newly opened spa is indeed a valuable enhancement, and your account of your rejuvenating experience is highly appreciated. Encounters with wildlife are indeed rare privileges, and we are deeply honoured to have been part of these extraordinary moments. We hope these treasured memories remain with you for a long time, and we eagerly anticipate the day we can welcome you back!

On our way to a medical mission for eye surgery we were able to squeeze a day at this superb lodge and get in two game drives. We were put in the Royal rooms with our son having his own cabin to himself, a full separate kitchen dining room and a huge separate bungalow for us with plunge pool overlooking the bushveldt. The food was superb, The individual treatment on the game drives was absolutely perfect. There were only two other guests but you never share a vehicle with more than 2-3 others I am told even when its busy. Our guide (I am so sorry I cannot remember his name) was trying so hard to find us a leopard.. but in doing so we dove into the bush over and over with his agile driving and through streams and dry river beds. I can go on an on but I just wanted to say thanks for hosting us on route to our medical mission in Acornhoek just a few km away where another world awaited us.
This lodge was a dream. We wanted to return for another night but we were just too busy at the hospital. I would highly recommend staying here.

Wonderful place with wonderful people! 11/10 if we could.

Rooms were clean and spacious. They provide you with bug spray and put down the mosquito net for you at night but we went in October, and didn't have any bug issues/bites. Bed was super comfortable and our room had an outdoor shower in addition to the indoor shower and tub. Really neat experience to shower outside while an antelope is a few metres away! You are walked to your rooms in the evening, and we were lucky enough to have Geeft walk us a few times and he showed us bush babies in the trees near our room. What a treat!

Our guide Jean-Pierre, and tracker John M were absolutely fantastic. Made us feel super safe and comfortable as this was our first safari experience. The entire staff at the lodge are all so kind, passionate, and genuinely care you enjoy yourself - made us feel like we were staying with family. We didn't want to leave - thank you!!!

Food was great and lots of variety. Lots of various antelope, baboons, vervet monkeys and even elephants came by one night while we were eating dinner. Bottled water, still and sparkling, available at all times.

Thornybush delivered in every aspects of our stay beginning with a warm greeting, refreshing lemonade, and thorough information about the room, schedule for game drives, and dining times, as well as meeting the staff specifically assigned to serve us from ranger, tracker, waiter, and escort.
We were offered lunch on our arrival with the first game drive about an hour later. Lindi, our ranger and KD, our tracker were fantastic bringing us to the big five by the 3rd of our eight game drives over the four night stay. Their ability to get us to see so many different animals and birds during the stay unbelievable! Their warmth and hospitality as we stopped for morning coffee and afternoon drinks and snacks shined through as it did answering the numerous questions we asked as they drove us into the savannah and through the bush. Since it is winter in June in South Africa morning were chilly. We were supplied with hot water bottles and blanket to repel the early day chill. In the chill of the end of one afternoon game drive we were treated to a buffet in the bush.

We saw so many animals and in different behaviors as eating, moving as family, especially elephants, zebras, giraffes, and a pride of lions. Mom and cub leopards were also prominent. Lindi related different behaviors of many of the animals we viewed. KG demonstrated the finding of tracks and the differences in scat.

The food was plentiful and delicious as the staff were always able and willing to meet anyone's needs, as well as being kind, personable, and professional. They ended our four night stay as it began all gathered to bid us good bye. It was if we were leaving family.

I can write much, much more, but to summarize Thornbush Game Resort is an amazing experience and if you have the opportunity do not hesitate.

We had a great stay at Thornybush, where we spent four nights in April. Our team - Sean & John 'The Best' - were really great at finding us animal sightings, with two leopard eating their kills on two different days!

The lodge is nicely laid out with plenty of social distancing. The food was really good, with great attention to detail and catering for all needs.

The spa is also very nice, I arrived with a bit of a neck spasm after the long drive from Joburg, and they sorted me out with a great back & shoulder massage.

The rooms have everything you would need/want, but one criticism is the fact that the beds are about a full meter off the ground, so it's a bit of a mission to get into bed when you're short.

Overall, a fantastic lodge, with great safari experience.

We stayed at Thornybush Main Lodge and had a world class experience from start to finish. The game viewing was incredible and the guiding team of Sydonea and Orlando made every drive special with their knowledge. From sightings of ‘the big 5’ to the smaller animals and birds, we were continually learning about the bush. The food was superb and over our six day stay we experienced really well thought out, five star quality menus (thanks Solly!). We were assigned a butler, Patrick, who took good care of us over mealtimes and was quickly well tuned into each of our individual preferences. The service was of a very high standard in general and the staff even arranged short, special activities for our young child in between mealtimes and drives (thanks especially to Meryl!). The management were attentive to our needs and clearly know how to deliver a world class experience (thanks Anet and Mel).

Cannot wait to go back.

I honestly don't think it matters that much if you are in the middle our on the outside seats the views are amazing, and you are all very outside and the views are never obstructed. Hope that helps...In fact, I think the folks on the outside get eaten more often (wink, wink). Relax, it's amazing, the people are amazing and try to accommodate special request and needs, but please be kind and polite rather than demanding. It's not going to be an issue for you.
