Value
Zwakala River Retreat is located on a private family farm high up in the beautiful Magoebaskloof mountains of Limpopo Province. For many years we have shared our little piece of paradise with a host of extended family and friends who have gathered together at every opportunity to celebrate all the best things in life. It’s a sharing and caring kind of farm and it is this warmth and love for bringing people together that has spilt over into all that we do. Over the past couple of years we opened up the farm to visitors and we now offer three self catering cottages and a private river campsite. Weddings and a fabulous quarterly food market are hosted at Minas Art Cafe & Farm Venue the renovated original farmhouse and shed. Our recent addition Zwakala Brewery embodies the same ethos of togetherness and the word Zwakala actually means “come closer”. We are proudly South African and love this beautiful, vibrant & colourful province of Limpopo that we live in.

We had a wonderful stay and the staff were friendly and accommodating. The river cabins were cosy and very comfortable with plenty of blankets and thankfully a wood-burning fireplace for those chilly evenings and mornings. The cabin is stocked with all the essentials needed for self-catering, including complimentary rusks that were delicious! Zwakala brewery is conveniently within walking distance and the town of Haenertsburg is a short drive away. There are plenty of trails for walking and trail running and the birdlife is great. Thank you for having us and we look forward to our next visit!

We had the most amazing wedding weekend at Zwakala River Retreat (also known as Mina's Art Cafe). the atmosphere here is just fills your soul with the beautiful views and warm welcomes from this family run business.
The food is out of this world with all the meals home cooked on the premises. The family are vegetarian so there's delicious veggie choices as well as a full meat menu.
Loved every minute and can't wait to go back in December.

The apartment was stunning we enjoyed the stay.
A few things to recommend; please have an option for an electric kettle, microwave, iron, and ironing board. To have proper instruction on how to use the gas stove, not all gas stoves work the same. We struggled using it. Always have someone on site to assist in case of emergency or inform the guest if there won't be anyone so that on arrival we can check all that we need is there.

Also, to check if all the utensils are there, we didn't have the wine opener.
Please consider having side lamps.

FYI - please check the lights, one of them wasn't working the rest might need replacement soon.

Other than that all was good. Thank you.

From the moment we drove into Zwakalas gates, all our worries melted away. The personal touches in our cabin, from fresh farm produce and herbs, to ground coffee & rusks, made them feel extra homey.
We took advantage of the Noka spa which was located next to our cabin, and boy what a treat that was. We even braved the cold river and took a 3min cold plunge. We love everything about this sanctuary and have decided that it will be our annual couples getaway. We can't wait for our next one. We will definitely be back!

The cabin is stunning! The extra attention towards a little hand written note with a bunch of flowers and fresh herbs for cooking was greatly appreciated.

The fireplace inside was a extra special treat and enough wood was provided at no extra cost.

Hiking trials are beautiful, the booklet in the cabin however did not contain a map of these and we did get a bit lost.

Recommend a night light next to the bed for reading purposes.

My partner and I had the most incredible weekend at Zwakala. We stayed in the Barnhouse Loft apartment, which was so well-equipped. Everything you could possibly need, with fresh herbs for cooking and a fire starting kit to keep you warm. A special mention to Petunia, the lovely lady who came to restock our wood and clean the communal kitchen. When we arrived, the fires were packed and waiting to be lit with chairs around the campfire ready to go. The scenery around the farm is spectacular and we enjoyed a lot of walks and birdwatching. Thank you Denise and the Zwakala team for a wonderful weekend, we will definitely be back!

In one word it is beautiful. Let me start with the road, we had some rain and I was still able to get there with my small engine car comfortably.

The cabin was beautiful, the kitchen stocked well. Even though it is solar there are still plugs that you can use, it's not just the lights. For winter there are blankets and a fireplace to keep it nice and toasty. An outside bath, most likely the best kept secret of the cabin.

The location of this retreat is excellent. There is no noise and is far enough away while still being close to Heanertsburg.

The brewery is open on the weekend with awesome food and company. The hospitality that we received was amazing! Thank you, Michele and team, for making our 10year anniversary an awesome one. We will see you in the Winter again!

When we visited Zwakala River Retreat, it was exceptionally cold (snow in Johannesburg) but what an extremely warm people welcomed us. The owners have given us a 5 star treatment. The meals, typical local dishes, were succulent.
The neighbourhood is ideal for nice hiking tours.
Do not forget to taste the homemade beer.

Hi Willem. This is a plarform to ask questions of other travellers who have been to the places registered on Trip Advisor. It is not a means of speaking to the management of the establishments. You'll have to contact the Zwakala/Mina's Farm personnel privately.
