I have mostly good to report about Bastion but a few little improvements can be made too. Good : Very near to Pretoria so not a long drive from there or Joburg for a rest The owners are very warm, welcoming and accommodating The beds and pillows are divine! The room is clean and tidy. Rustic design and furnishings which is interesting. Lots of nooks and crannies to explore in the rather wild garden. Parking inside the gate so safe and property seems to be very safe as well. You can braai your own food there or order dinner BEFORE 11AM that morning. Not so good : No privacy as the doors to the rooms are mainly glass and so have to close the blinds alot of the time. The room next door is very close by. Not for romance! I did specify in my requests if the room had an aircon and it did not. Had a very good standing fan. This is no 7, No 1,2,3 seemed to have standing aircons. Luckily we had cool weather. The TV remote was a bit stuck at times, hard to change channels -good variety of channels to watch Towels smelt a bit damp to me but could have been due to rainy weather. Room 7 and the ones there are near to a main road so peak times a bit noisy. I had expected a marvelous breakfast due to the reviews and although it was great, there was not enough variety. 1 cereal, 1 juice, no mushrooms, tomato etc, but a lovely plate of salad, cheese and avo. In all, Bastion is very nice to just have a bit of a rest, or to stay if on business or if there is an occasion nearby. It has a lovely ambience, is peaceful and the water features are a win. The garden next door is beautiful so that was a great view from no 7. Thanks to the owners for being so warm and welcoming.…
We had things to do in Centurion over the weekend so decided that staying over for 2 nights would be better than driving 8x80km trips. I found Bastion house online and I’m glad I did. It is an awesome guest house . The secret to their success,I think , is that it is owner run. The room was clean , comfortable and feels like home. The whole place is built out of rock and the history behind the whole area is amazing. I always worry about safety when I stay over anywhere and I felt very safe here. The included breakfast was world class , it beats 95% of upmarket hotels that we’ve stayed in .
We attended a function in Centurion and booked for an overnight stay at Bastion House. We were warmly greeted upon arrival and shown our beautiful room. The following morning we were treated with friendly service and a superb breakfast. I definitely recommend Bastion House!
Lovely location with excellent rooms. Lots of effort and thought put into the design to make each room unique and interesting. Most importantly Antonette and Bas are fantastic hosts who provide a very welcoming and genuine service. Absolutely fantastic breakfast.
I travel extensively and stay in many hotels. The Bastion House is the best kept secret in SA! I have never felt more welcomed, comfortable and at home anywhere. The staff and owners are all an absolute joy to deal with. As a reserved English woman (!) the staff are there when you need them, the owners always ready to share a glass of wine or to just leave me alone when I needed it. I cannot recommend highly enough.
Very nicely appointed rooms. High quality amenities and furnishings. The standard rooms are quite "compact". I had a problem with my DSTV so they moved me to another room. The breakfast is the best breakfast I have ever had. Incredible spread with gourmet quality food including home baked sourdough bread. Really really good. Very nice owners and staff.
The new management took this guest house to the next level. Stayed at Bastion a year or so ago, was just a normal B&B. One year later and what a pleasant surprise. I could not believe the stunning new look and vibe- total transformation. I will B@Bastion again very soon!
Being away from home is not something I enjoy. This is why I am picky as far as accommodation is concerned- I want to stay in a place that is lovely on the eyes, comfortable, have great food and really kind, but not intrusive, hosts. The Bastion House in Irene ticked all these boxes and will now be my favourite stay over place when I have business in the area ( Best Banting breakfast I have ever had- made spesifically to order. Thank you!)
