Ballito Backpackers was a pretty standard, commercial backpackers, clean but nothing special in the way of rooms, facilities or service. We booked a private room and were given a ten bed (five bunks) dorm all to ourselves. The bathrooms were a short walk away, decently clean and functional. The staff was a bit lackadaisical, spending much of the time watching what their choice of shows in the TV room. The kitchen had adequate utensils and such, and several fridges. Most of the food storage lockers seemed to be taken by long term residents and the staff. The buzzer on the front door was broken, so after hours you needed a cellphone with credit to find someone to open the door. The wifi was free but the signal was weak.

The location is great for Ballito's nightlife, restaurants and beaches. The backpackers is located on the second floor of a shopping complex, steps away from a grocery store, a two minute walk from restaurants and the beach. On weekend nights, the noise from the several nearby nightclubs can be heard in the rooms.

Overall the place was good value for money but lacked personality.

Last minute booking to Ballito for a long weekend. The booking process is easy but beware of refund policy. The establishment is fairly clean, the linen could use a change. Situated in a small shopping centre, which is great to get food etc. weekend the club next door was pumping, so I slept late. When using the ladies shower I recommend you close the door because how the mirrors are positioned anyone walking past can see you. Or better ask for a key. Some of the contractors temporarily staying in the area use all the shower facilities. There are no wardrobe or steel boxes to lock away your stuff. Just mind that. Close to the beach, restaurant and local taxi to the big mall. Fair is cheap. From venue to lifestyle centre it's about R7 single trip.

A few friends and I were looking to spend a night in ballito to enjoy the nightlife. We approached ballito backpackers without any prior booking and we were very impressed with their willingness to accommodate. We were only a group of four but we were provided with a larger room which was kept private. Very good service and a very comfortable stay. Well done!

The hostel is really nice, clean and well organized .common spaces are large and elegantly furnished. Breakfast is included but you have to prepare by yourself . The food is good and the kitchen large with two enormous round tables. The owner is a nice pretty lady with exquisite sense of humor. The perfect destination for budget travelers.

I spent a weekend there in May this year. Very friendly staff. Nice rooms and the beach was 2 minutes away. Club music a bit loud over the weekends, however there's great alternatives; 2 pubs in walking distance and a great takeaway restaurant

We spent only one night in Ballito backpacker but that was way enough... We arrived pretty late in the evening and we appreciated to be able to get the keys anyway. But the rooms are really close to a nightclub ... The music was amazingly loud until 6am! Horrible! Litteraly impossible to sleep even a little... On the morning we found some dirty and dodgy bathrooms. It is tough to have a shower with such a poor water pressure. The kitchen is ok but the fridge are pretty dirty as well. The good point is the receptionnist who has been really nice with us and allowed us to take a shower and keep our luggages a few hours after check out. That was really appreciable. It is also well situated ( close to bars and beach).

A really average hostel but quite cheap though.

Great views of the sea, situated just across the road from the beach. Beach was clean, was their in April, so I found the weather was perfect for swimming. The backpackers only had dormitory which varied in sizes but the air conditioners wont working, but they did have fans,so it was not too bad. What was great is the backpackers has encluded with the showers is a bath room with a tub in it. The staff I found were helpful. but I found on the weekend there was lot of music coming from the night clubs across the road, but they did move me to a quieter dormitory which was fine. Also theirs loads of restaurants close by.

Yes it's only a 1star establishment, so one shouldn't expect anything exceptional...

But the rooms are right opposite two clubs, so no chance of getting much sleep. The rooms themselves are small and stuffy and the air-conditioning is non-existent. The staff were unable to provide a fan for the room, as there was only ONE working fan and it was being used in the danky lounge area. Some of the room windows were unable to be closed, so there was some sort of natural breeze, but then the loud thumping music from across the road was also present.

Thank goodness we were not self-catering as the kitchen was in a completely disgusting state!
Old, rusty, fat-laiden unwashed dishes filled the greasy sink.

The toilets wreaked of urine, and there were noticeable mouldy patches all over the place.

If lack of basic hygiene and of sleep is your type of thing, then this place is paradise. But for travellers such as ourselves who wanted basic accommodation and sleep close to the airport, it was utter hell.

For the price, Ballito Backpackers was a decent place to stay. But we did find that we spent as little time as possible outside because our room was really hot and stuffy - far hotter than it was outside. We battled to sleep at night and wished for a bit of ventilation. Otherwise, I have no complaints.
