We stayed here from 24 to 26 September 2020z The agency - being well aware of the closure of Fairmont and the impact on the facilities had a responsibility to inform us as guests and even provide and option to cancel. The booking and pricing is based on the facilities being marketed, therefore arriving to most of these not being available amounts to false marketing

The service from the agent has been appalling throughout the stay. She texted me a day before arrival asking for details of all the people who will be staying in the apartment and a breakage deposit to be paid immediately. I found this odd as this was not arranged, well in advance or paid as part of the payment of the booking.

On arrival we waited for half an hour at the gate waiting to receive an access code for the gate.

At reception, a further half an hour wait, as my booking couldn’t be found. More paperwork, on the same info already provided to the agent.

There’s no orientation or info pack provided on the facilities.

Arriving in the apartment lead to more shock and disappointment. The bedroom had not been prepared. The bed was not made. I reported this and the cleaning ladies arrived shortly. Their adherence to standards of hygiene and Covid -19 protocols is lacking, which was evident in their reluctance to wear masks while cleaning the room.

I later discovered more issues:
Broken toilet seat
Dirty blanket, with visible stains and a smell
No linen provided for the sleeper couch (for a reservation of 1 adult and 2 children)
The patio furniture was not clean

The worst experience I’ve ever had. There’s no duty of care from anyone involved here. Such a pity for a beautiful location

The unit was good quality apart from some rusted chairs. What is terrible is the service.
If you rent in the apartments you are not allowed full access to zimbali facilities and you cannot drive to most places. Your access is limited to certain public facilities where you have to ask if you can or cannot use it. Even parking is limited. You cannot access the beach except through the gate at the valley of the pools.
As the hotel is currently closed you have no access to any of the previously offered facilities and services.
The booking is a private arrangement via a letting agent; mine was "leisure letting." The receptionists at the Suites cannot even arrange towels or a cleaning service. They say you must speak to the letting agent. The letting agent states you can only get service once a day and they are only available till 5pm telephonically. They also do not have physical presence at the site.
All in all the entire experience is soured at Zimbali by the letting agents, receptionists and the Zimbali management as no one is forthcoming or answerable as to what you are allowed access to, where you can park and even how many towels you can use a day.
I would suggest at these prices rent a house at zimbali or another estate.

There’s no care in this unit. Clear owner doesn’t reinvest in the unit to make the experience for the visitors decent - old furniture, old bedding that smells like cigarette, unserviced air conditioning, dirty carpet, the rooms smells… So uncomfortable for my family. The owners could have tried harder. Not recommended, I can’t wait to leave here. Quality of stay is 0.

Terrible experience. Air conditioning not working, curtains not opening, hot water not working. No maintenance team available. The establishment needs to have an on site maintenance team. There seems to be no proper organization and checks on the facility. Had to vacate the premises.

After traveling from JHB spent over an hour at the gate as my booking was not confirmed by the agent with the resort. The UNIT poorly maintained and falling apart. Bed is filthy and there is no cleaning service. Yes you make your bed and clean the unit yourself.

One of the worst experiences at the zimbali suites! Never ever go to this place it is shocking! Locked out of the room for 3 hours because they never had a spare key to let us In. Until we said we calling the police to break the door open! Sitting for 3 hours with 2 small kids with us till 22:00 pm! Shocking experience! Unit 524! Agent was useless and unapologetic! Other hotels they have spare keys if a kid has left the key card in the room! If not they get the door open in a few minutes

Worst holiday ever.
Air-conditioning doesn't work, false advertising, limited access to the estate and to top it off a host that couldn't care less about the issues we experienced. Nothing was done about our issues.

We stayed at Zimbali Suites 110 on the 15th of August. When we made the booking through Agoda (Bookings.com) and paid a refundable breakage deposit to the agents - Leisure Letting North Coast. (The site said pay at the property - but they insisted on payment upfront by EFT - which should have been our first clue).

It is now six weeks since our stay and our deposit still has not been returned to us despite numerous phone calls, emails and promises that our refund is being paid "today".

The apartment is lovely and despite the Zimbali hotel facilities being closed during our stay - I would stay at this apartment again. BUT - if I was the owner of this apartment I would change agents as Leisure Letting North Coast is scamming your guests. It would not surprise me if future guests decided that they may as well help themselves to the linen, towels and appliances to avoid the hassle of trying to get back a breakage deposit.
