About

#3 of 6 hotels in Wilderness
Welcome to the Garden Route's oldest and best-loved Hotels! With a grand tradition as honeymoon spot, family hotel and a tourist and business destination, it's steeped in tradition and it's got a warm, old-style charm. But it's also a modern hotel with all the facilities you need - The 150-bedroom property boasts a beauty spa, two swimming pools, a bowling green, two tennis courts, a squash court, putt-putt and six banqueting halls and conference rooms. We are situated almost in the centre of the Garden Route - 45 minutes' drive to both Mossel Bay and Knysna, less than an hour to Oudtshoorn in the Klein Karoo. Not to mention 300 meters from golden beaches, surrounded by indigenous forests and striking lagoons. It's a Mecca for sport and adventures and Wilderness is part of the unfenced Garden Route National Park - with some of the world's most popular walks and trails. All of this makes The Wilderness Hotel perfect for niche markets like birders, mountain bikers, golfers and for tour companies too, of course.

We stayed at your hotel 3 years ago, were very impressed, that is the reason for a return visit, The hotel seamed run down and that hardly any maintanace had been done, that is inside the rooms, my room needed a fresh coat of paint, on the outside you could see tiles on the floor which had come loose. I can understand that the tour buses no longer come with loads of people so the money is not coming in.

This is definitely not a value for money destination. We arrived there a bit late the Friday evening I asked the guy at reception if the kitchen was open unfortunately it was closed already He said I should try the local pub opposite the road. This is so unprofessional how can you send your client to another venue to eat?

The unit is large, no noise (unit 132), and a lovely little courtyard with a braai (we did not use that, but a lot of scooting was done by the little one in the family). The hotel is very central, you can walk everywhere. Comfortable beds. Unit is cleaned daily. We were able to order room service upon arrival and the food was good, so easy to check in if late with a small child/children. The staff is very helpful, we forgot all our toiletries at home, and the night guard went to the closest garage to get us toothpaste and toothbrushes, which was lovely since we did not know the area at all. Diagonally opposite the hotel is a nice little restaurant with a play area and climbing trees, which was a great find for a family like us where one can hardly eat if there is no option for play. Disliked · The room is dated, there was an odd smell in the kitchen / TV area and carpets are very old/spotted in areas. The couches are not comfortable at all. The beds are fine, but bedding and pillows need replacing, the bedding is too small for the bed (main bedroom) and pillows are thin and flat. The free parking is parking on the main road outside, and no help with luggage. The play area is far from the hotel and no place to sit for adults. One has to supervise. There is supposed to be a heated pool but it was not working. My view is the ratings are a bit high.

Our Guest House, Moontide recommended The Spa and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed a lovely 60min Couples Massage. Our friendly therapists, Jacques & Laurilee made us feel welcome and offered us a professional and most relaxing experience. Though the Spa offers various services we will visit them again and book a 90 minute session with the same therapists.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Wilderness Hotel. A great place to go with the family as there is so much to do at the hotel and the area. We enjoyed the fabulous spread at breakfast - something for everyone.
