The crew is amazing, friendly and accommodating. The offer enough activities for you not to want to leave. They have the tastiest dinners and entertainment in the evenings. They offer a variety of different sleeping options to accommodate every need! I can’t wait to return.
This property has the potential to be a very nice hostel. The room we stayed was very nice (also pricy for a backpackers). The grounds look lush and well maintained. But the atmosphere was not all that great. Lots of smoking and lots of drinking going on (the bar felt like a local drunk hole). Staff was helpful but poorly organized. Food was meager quality on both breakfast and dinner. due to lack of ingredients and effort. If you are looking for a party hostel, this might be your thing. But it was not for us and left a day earlier than planned.
At the margins of the Wilderness national park, this hostel offers good facilities (hot showers, shared kitchen with fridge) and a comfortable bed in an almost pastoral setting. The accommodation is spread out over a large garden-like area. Staff is friendly. There is a popular bar on the premises that can be loud all days of the week. WiFi is only available in the bar/ reception area. The nearest supermarket is 30 minutes away (on foot). Most travellors who stay here, have a car at their disposal. Fairy Knowe is difficult to reach with public transportation.
I was looking for inspiration for a fantasy book I am writing. The immediate hotels upon entering Wildernis just didn’t seem like ‘it’, but when I drove down the Fairy Knowe corner I knew I had find the right place. While I was initially quite happy spending my time by myself in my on-sweet mystical forest haven while hiking (routes easily accessible from there) during the day, I soon learned that there were many more surprises outside every time I opened the door. On Tuesday there was chess evening, from that Thursday to Saturday there were amazing bands playing and there were pop-up markets with crystals and all things fit for a fairytale during the day. I soon learned that it was, in fact, also the most popular bar in town. When walking down there were always some interesting characters around open for a conversation with a fresh worldview or word of wisdom. In Wilderness everything goes and everyone is accepted, it is like a hippy paradise. If you do consider yourself a very boring person, this might not be the best place for you, however if you have some life excitement and curiosity, this is your place.…
Fairy Knowe is one of my favourite places to hang out - not only for accommodation, but also to meet up with friends, relax under the Milkwood trees, attend events, see live music, or even offer art sessions. I love the people, the trees, the fireplace, the vibe, the food... My friend and I were in the cottage called 'Under Milkwood' and we loved our stay. Very comfortable, clean, and with a beautiful view from the outside little table and chairs.
