RIGHT ON THE BEACH ! Sea View from all apartments and the beds. Romantic, charming Guesthouse directly on the Beach with large garden flowing right onto the beach offering sun-loungers and grills. All apartments are differently furnished, with heaters, heating blankets, towel heaters, some with underfloor heating and gowns. With Guesthouse-Sat-DSTV in all apartments. FREE INTERNET! We absolutely loved our stay at Haus am Strand, so much so that we extended for another night and would definitely have stayed even longer if we didn't have a reservation elsewhere. We stayed in the Sunrise room and although they warn about the sound of the N2 on the website the sound of the ocean is so soothing and blocked out any noise from the highway. The ONE thing that may affect your sleep is if you are light sensitive some light does get in through the blinds. Otherwise the bed is super comfortable and we slept well.
The room is beautifully appointed, you dont have to leave it - the views of the beach and ocean are wonderful, you have a couch, a bed and a balcony facing the beach. The breeze from the beach is great and we were cool enough, just know that there is no aircon in sunrise so if its a scorcher it may get a bit warm.
The kitchen has all that you need and Nick is fantastic in telling you where all the good spots are to eat. Most of which are a very short walk away.
I loved the ease of the location being able to walk to the shops and restaurants and felt very safe doing so.
the braai on the grass next to the beach is such a treat, know that there is only 1 of those and another one in the courtyard, so first come first serve on the beach braai. Bring your own wood and firestarters of course.
We loved everything about our stay - thank you Nick for your hospitality.

Tastefully decorated honeymoon suite recently renovated with Nespresso coffee machine in a very clean brightly coloured establishment with very professional service, all driven by Rita who takes great pleasure in ensuring all guests are made to feel special. Having a little look around I’d say this is the room to go for. It’s nicely laid out and bright and not just for honeymooners. Set on the beach where you can see the sea from your bed or sipping a coffee/drink from the balcony, it’s perfect for relaxing. There is also a private access to the beach and excellent restaurants within walking distance all assisting in making for an excellent stay. The TV is hooked to Netflix and Apple TV in lieu of DSTV and that’s no bad thing. The wifi is truly excellent & seamless
Note: No breakfast is provided which I feel is making guests miss out on a fantastic experience each morning in view of the setting. It would be really great if Rita could revisit this if only by providing a cold easy to reheat breakfast (we have microwave in the room) in the room the night before.

My husband and I visited for three days and as we enjoyed our time so much we extended our stay by a further two weeks. The beach bungalow where we stayed was first class. The rooms were furnished to a high standard and the bed linen was of an extremely high quality. The bathroom was well appointed with a spa bath. Our views breathtakingly beautiful with the ocean just a few feet away. The only noise you hear at night is the waves crashing on the shore. Location excellent with many restaurants within walking distance. Rita our hostess was knowledgeable and very helpful. Realaxing stay and a fantastic place to clear your mind. Very romantic too. Will definitely be back.

What an amazing hotel. Located right i on the beach in the lovely town of Wilderness. We booked the Economy Room which was offered for a lower rate than the other rooms and we found it amazing and definately sufficient for our needs. Nothing Economy about this room. It is a good size room, sparkling clean, comfortable bed, wardrobe, and a generous seating area. The terrace coming out from the room overlooking the lawn and the ocean is incredible. You can stay in bed and look at the ocean for hours.
We met both Rita and Imelda who were super friendly and helpful. Breakfast is not served at the property but you can find few cafes just 3 minutes walk from the property.
All in all - it feels like your most beautiful summer house with great people. Book it if you're in the area and if you would like to spend few days relaxing on the beach. The beach is stunning!

My husband and I had the pleasure to stay at Haus am Strand in Wilderness on Thursday, 28 November 2019. The guest house was easy to locate just off the N2.
We were warmly welcomed by Rita and Imelda and shown to our room (mini suite). The mini suite was on the smaller side but more than adequate for a one night stay. The room was tastefully decorated and furnished. Careful attention to detail resulted in a beautiful, luxurious haven. Coffee and tea facilities were available in our room as well as coffee mugs and wine glasses. The bed was very comfortable and resulted in a heavenly night’s rest. The bar fridge also came in handy to keep our wine chilled.
Like most reviewers mention the location is unbeatable – right on the beach. We even had sea views right from our bed. The patio in front of our room was furnished and provided the perfect place to relax and soak up the magical ambience of Wilderness beach.
The purpose of our short stay was to be close to George airport the next day for our flight back to Johannesburg but we fell in love with Wilderness and Haus am strand and we will certainly go back for a much longer stay in the future.

A late review but better late then never, as they say. My husband and I, together with our English Bulldog, stayed at the beautiful guesthouse - Huis am Strand in May. Rita kindly allowed us to bring our dog though this isn't allowed during Season and school holidays, from what we understand. Hosts Rita and Mike were always available to assist with questions and recommendations.
We stepped from our patio onto the grass and straight onto the sand and we walked on the long stretch of beach. It is truly a magnificent venue if you simply need a good rest or wish to take part in the many recreational activities in the area.
We drove to the Sedgfield Saturday market, did quad biking at WildX Adventures and Micolighting with The Flying Club at Woodville, Hoekwil, ate meals at The River Deck at the turn-off to Buffalo Bay, at Hoeka Toeka in Hoekwil and at The Girls and Ilali on the main drag in Wilderness. The Spar is also well equipped and 5 minutes away for convenient foods. Hubby was fetched by Greg, from Canyon Adventures, for 4 hours of fun Kloofing in the area (Abseling is available too).
Huis am Strand is a guesthouse not a B&B, however, there is no shortage of places to eat breakfast nearby. The two rooms we were in (we had to move when we extended our stay) were filled with character and the small touches that count and were very comfortable and they have absolutely everything one needs for a self catering stay. In addition, they're cleaned daily and the cleaning staff and gardener were always very pleasant.
We spent hours relaxing on the deck-chairs under warm blankets staring at the sea and the Dolphins playing in the waves. The best was lying in bed listening to the sound of the sea. This totally blocks out any noise one might hear from the highway behind the house. We do not hesitate to recommend this establishment.

Haus am Strand is "the" place to stay on the Garden Route. Located in Wilderness where everything you need is a five minute walk away. The lodging we had was a large one-bedroom apartment with full kitchen. The dining room glass door look out over a grass area with chairs and tables, then the beach, and then the waves of the ocean. The bedroom was large and warm -- it was winter. The bathroom was clean and the shower had great water pressure and hot water. The room was cleaned everyday and there was always someone sweeping, mowing, or raking the grounds. And the best thing are the owners. Have a question and they have the answer! We made reservations for two days and stayed four days. We highly recommend a stay at Haus am Strand.

Awesome location and lovely friendly hosts made our stay memorable. We wanted a location offering direct access to the beach at affordable rates which is exactly what House am Strand offers. Rooms are very tastefully decorated and the whole property is very well maintained.

What a beautiful, lovely, precious place, Rita puts her love into every square in of this charming guest house, she takes pride in her decor and it exudes love! Attention given to every detail and the house is always squeaky clean and fresh, lovely music always heard creating good vibrations to get you into the holifay spirit and with the fireplace burning in the background. The beach is a stones throw away from the peaceful relaxing garden area and the shops and restaurants are only a few minutes walk away. The location is stunning and good weather mostly. The apartments have everything you may need to be relaxed, cozy and comfortable with a sea view from your door step you are able to view the dolphins and whales. There is also a grilling place/braai right by the beach and very good wifi available.

The inside of the room is decorated with a beautiful style and finesse. The bed was so comfortable it made it difficult for us to get out of bed in the mornings, especially because if you open the windows you have this beautiful sea breeze wafting through the room and you can hear the gentle sound of waves crashing in the distance.
It felt like we were in heaven and even though it was not our honeymoon, we considered our short stay here as our honeymoon as it was so romantic and breathtaking. The fact that it is also self catering is fantastic as you can walk a short 3 minutes across the road to the shops and then cook yourself a romantic dinner right in the room.
We were met by the beautiful and professional Manager Sharon who was an excellent and very knowledgeable host. She herself having been a Tour Guide has extensive knowledge of the area so it was very useful talking to her about all the places we could visit on our stay. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner Rita. What a wonderful and vibrant women. The passion, energy and style she shows in her personality is reflected directly into the house.
If only we could have stayed longer! I will continue to recommend this place as one of the best places I have ever stayed in.

Its only a few meters to the beach, through the garden. The garden flows right onto the beach. Its our most loved unit. All beds with sea view.
