Khotso Horse Trails and Accommodation, deep in the Southern Drakensberg, is both a working horse and sheep farm and a perfect base to either explore, adventure or relax. Khotso is famous in the area for its spectacular horse trails, which range from 1-hour rides to 3-day cross-border expeditions into Lesotho. There is the very cosy Backpackers Lodge, a new campsite with kitchen and ablution block in the orchard next to the mountain stream, as well as 3 newly refurbished self-catering rondawels overlooking a private gorge behind. Enjoy the idyllic life that comes with living in the mountains, far away from the hustle and bustle in the towns and cities. Spend precious time with friends and family in your own rondawel or head to the Lodge for the sociable atmosphere to embrace the wonderful characters that travel here from all over the world. With the full 1 000 hectare farm at your disposal, ride over the ridge tops on horseback, hike to one of the mineral water pools, swim or fish the Umzimkulu river, mountain bike the extensive single track routes, or just take time out from your hectic day-to-day routine to relax and unwind by a fire under the stars in the breathtaking scenery of the Southern Drakensberg.

We have just returned from a family trip to Khotso. My husband and eldest son did the 3 day hike into Lesotho and my youngest son and I did the 3 day ride. Everything about the trip was amazing. The incredible sure-footed ponies took everything in their stride to guide us (with the help of Charles) through the most amazing scenery one could ever imagine, scaling rocky hillsides, wading through rivers to the mountain village where we stayed. Vicky, guided the walkers with endless energy and enthusiasm through the same terrain and we all had an amazing time. On arrival, Vicky worked tirelessly to provide delicious meals and to ensure that everything worked seamlessly. The people, ponies and landscape were all absolutely amazing and provided us with an experience that we will never

I wanted to get close to nature and have not been disappointed: Steve is welcoming; the volunteers are pleasant and happy - it was great to meet and chat with them, as well with other guests; the atmosphere is cool, relax and friendly-family, informal and warm; the environment is very pleasant, peaceful and harmonious. I recommend to all those who flee american-style "comfort".

This place has everything you need, a well-equipped kitchen and the location is great. We had just been in Lesotho but there were many trips available to go into Sani pass and so on from Khotso. The staff was friendly and everything felt organized.

Just come back from the 7 day ride into Lesotho. Steve and Lulu have built something very special - a broad family of staff and volunteers who care about the horses and guests in equal measure, charming accommodation and an incredibly warm experience which never lacks professionalism. We fell in love with the horses, learnt a great deal about Lesotho and the local region, ate too well, imbibed too many g & ts and miss everyone already. Charles, Vicki, Ellie and Matt were the best. Also need to give a shout out the dogs - you'll know what I mean once you go. One of the best horse riding treks I am likely to ever enjoy.

We stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed it. Since the weather was not in our favor we mostly relaxed or did a walk around the area by ourself, unfortunately no horse ride. The living area especially at night is so nice, when the fireplace is set and in the background some indie vibes music, it's very easy to relax with a good book. You have the option to eat dinner that gets cooked by the volunteers of the lodges, which is nice if you don't want to cook yourself. Little tear to my eye: the second night there was chicken. Some Indian dude piled up like half of it on his plate. I did not know there would be no more chicken, otherwise I would have probably been quite upset in the first place. I still got like..80% full so it's okay, I wasn't starving. Little request that I
