Lake Naverone is the most beautiful setting around a pristine lake surrounded by stunning mountains. The accommodations are well maintained and quite sufficiently provided with everything you will require for a self catered getaway.

No tv, limited cell reception means that you get more time to admire the gorgeous surroundings and activities. The horse riding was great fun and some of our group also had massage treatments which they raved about.

Thank you to Marlene for the excellent care we had, making our birthday girl feel so special and providing us with a wonderful getaway!

By and large, the reviews about Lake Naverone and its pastoral surroundings are excellent (and true). Yet there are those who complain about the lack of an all-encompassing digital lifestyle there. Why on earth would they want to venture to this 400 hectare location high up in the Drakensberg mountain range to watch Netflix? (The graphics outside are much better!)

It's a place to detox, to breath mountain air, to unwind, to hike and to wonder. (And if you really need to keep in touch with the outside world occasionally, there is a wi-fi spot near the reception cottage which is free to use.)

We had a wonderful stay at Lake Naverone. Lovely setting and we enjoyed our daily walks and hikes around the lakes and along the river as well as hikes up the hills with views overlooking the lakes and cottages below. Our cottage was tastefully decorated with good quality furnishings and was very comfortable and spacious. The bathroom had a large shower with glass doors and corner bath plus heated towel rack. We enjoyed cooking in the well equipped kitchen as well as cooking on the Weber on our patio overlooking the lake. This is the perfect place to relax and unwind and we certainly will return to Lake Naverone Cottages, which is now our favourite place in the Drakensberg.

We visit Naverone each year. The units are looking quite tired, there were cobwebs across the doorways and the stove was difficult to operate. The gas was switched off and when we needed to turn the oven off, we had to disconnect the mains to shut down the flame. Not cheap to stay here so we didn't feel that it warranted the price. Mattresses definitely need to be changed, incredibly uncomfortable.

We have visited many places in South-Africa, but Lake Naverone is without a doubt our no. 1 destination. It ticked all the right boxes, as we could enjoy the unspoiled nature without disturbance from crowds of people. Short, easy hikes into the breathtakingly beautiful Drakensberg are very close, or one can hike/go mountain bike riding/row on the Lake Naverone grounds without losing sight of the Berg. The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and share their knowledge of the area. It is self-catering, with a fully furnished kitchen and lovely braai area on the covered veranda, but there are also restaurants close by.

We stayed at the Kite cottage for three nights. Due to the beautiful location and the lack of distraction in the cottage (i.e. tv and wifi) we had a much needed break. The Lake is absolutely stunning and there are multiple boats and other equipments available to enjoy the water (fishing rods etc). We were hosted by Charmaine and Trevor who did a great job. They made us feel very welcome and gave us helpful information on the area. To top it off, our cottage was cleaned daily by the housekeeping staff. The only downside of the peaceful location of this accommodation is that it is about a half our drive away from the shops in Underberg, therefore we had to do some planning around grocery shopping. Nevertheless we hope to come back to Lake Naverone in the future.

I stayed at Lake Naverone for 3 nights, it was so relaxing and quiet. I would definitely recommend it for a peaceful getaway either alone, with a partner or a group of friends.
The hosts are friendly and absolutely amazing, they make you feel at home right from the beginning. I was booked at Flufftail cottage which isn't far from reception, but it was still very private and quiet.
The cottage was spacious, I loved my window bench which had great sunlight coming through, great place to sit while reading. The thick blankets kept me warm at night and the rooms have warm showers, so even in winter, this would be a great getaway.
There's a convenience store not to far from the property, incase you forget it's self catering like I did!
If you terrified of dogs like me, just know that there are 3 on the property, but they are so friendly, I got over my fear very quickly. I left on Good Friday and was 2 Easter eggs as a parting gift, it's always the small things that count the most. 😊

My family and I checked in on the 30 Dec and checked out on the 2 Jan. The welcome was very friendly by Charmaine and very easy check in . Charmaine explained all the facilities available . We booked 2 x 10 sleeper chalets, Both chalets were very clean fully stocked with all your necessities . serviced twice a day by very friendly ladies. The resort itself is well very maintained. Although there is no TVs and wifi, nobody really cared because we went with a big group and carried lots of games and during the day the kids canoed in the lake, they absolutely loved it. Both chalets were very spacious and comfortable. Chalets are nicely spaced out . The views are breathtaking. Please ensure that you carry your own groceries and drinks as on the resort no real shops. There is a convenience store 2km down the road, but we went fully stocked so we were stored. We also carried our own sound bar and downloaded music in advance, just a tip since there is no wifi and the signal is not great. Thank you from all of us for a memorable holiday, It was really picture perfect and epic

We had an amazing time at Lake Naverone. It is a beautiful place to get away from the manic city life. The staff were friendly and helpful. The property is well-kempt and the atmosphere is one of soothing calmness. It is great that the cottages are spaced out well enough to offer privacy even when it is fully booked. We stayed at Dove cottage and although it was not a lakeside cottage, we had a view of the horses every morning and night who were right next to the cottage, and a view of a small stream behind the cottage.
The cleaning services could be improved. The cleaners only came in once a day whereas they were meant to come in twice a day, and the wood provided was wet, which was a bit disappointing. However, the staff and landscape made up for the minor shortcomings. The staff kindly organised a trip up to Sani Pass for us and were more than willing to assist with anything we needed. We will definitely visit again, and recommend it to friends and family.

A special time with family with extraordinarily beautiful and windless days. The setting is spectacular with magnificent views in all directions. Apart from activities in and and around the resort, the property affords opportunities to explore the wider property and the nature reserve (rivers and waterfalls). The grounds are well attended to and the cleaning staff and office management most helpful and friendly as well as and proactive in paying a visit to ensure we were well settled and happy. It is a place we are sure to visit again.
