Excellent location, with magnificent views of the Drakensberg mountains, the chalets are well maintained and serviced, making for an extremely comfortable stay, well worth the stay and we would highly recommend it.

Beautiful location in the Drakensberg.
Cottages well located around wild trout lake. Peaceful and serene
Nice hikes on property or one can venture further into the Drakensberg from site.
A photographers paradise!
The freshly baked bread and Trout Pate delivered on the first morning was awesome.
Will definitely return.

A beautiful cottage in the mountains. With no network coverage was actually nice to not have the phone going all the time. A fab fireplace to keep us warm was so cosy and nicely set up for us. Views over the dam and mountain back drop just amazing. If you looking for an escape from the world this is perfect. My rating for sleep is down to im used to sleeping in blackout room the one bedroom has a path light shining into the room which kept me up. I understand the reasoning for the blinds chosen as sun rises you get such amazing views. Host is lovely, we would book again i would just bring eye mask next time :)

Amazing lodge. Peaceful location. The perfect recharge place for any type of person. The fishing was extremely tough due to spawning but great nonetheless. Will definitely be back for some unfinished business in the fishing department. Great hospitality.

We had 3 amazing nights at Lakeside lodge? Which is surrounded by beautiful pine Forrest and a stone throw away from the most spectacular natural trout spawning lake with the clearest water you would ever see. Incredible views of the surrounding nature reserve and the peaceful sounds of nature/ bird life makes for the most relaxing and tranquil environment. The actual lodge is ideal and equipped with everything you need, including wood burning fireplace to keep you warm and for awesome ambiance. A big thank you to Natasha for a heart warming welcome and introduction and to Jack and Rob for being so informative and helpful. We will most definitely be back soon.

We stayed in the fisherman's cottage. Nestled between the pine trees this cottage were very cosy, clean and equipped with the necessary to enjoy your stay. The fireplace created a nice ambience to enjoy a glass of red wine. The trout dam is also beautiful although we did not fish. We stayed there for our trip to the Sani pass and this was the perfect place to stay for that reason.

What a gorgeous location. Not too far from Underberg is this fantastic farm. Unbelievable views and the setting is just the best. We stayed in the Lakeside Cottage that is nestled in the pine trees and overlooks the magnificent lake. Fishing was not the best as trout had just spawned and were hiding but definitely worth the trip!

No cellphone service, no internet, no card machine. This is off the grid, amongst the pine trees in front of the lake. The bungalows are beautifully set up with everything you need, including a full kItchen. If you enjoy nature, quiet and birds, this is the place for you!! There are very few bungalows which adds to the isolation.

Such a scenic place, the Drakensberg had snow, the wind was cool and the hiking was so scenic, waterfalls, different terrain, we trekked for almost an hour and reached the San Bushmen Rock art. We had to wait for the guide to open the gate and had a informative lecture on the cave paintings. The hike back to the Resort was another hour. Overall really great experience. Great bird life and the area is known for eland sightings.

What time of the year is the best for hiking Giants Cup? We read they have scheduled "veld burns"
Answer from Natasha
1 contribution
Hi, Spring is always a good time of year for hiking as the thunder storms haven't yet started and the cold of winter has passed. There are 'veld burns' every winter around this time of year. Autumn is also always a great time for hiking.
