We spent three nights at Duckbay Lodge. We were upgraded from Fisherman's Cottage. This was very generous move by management and resulted in us getting high value for the price we paid. Duckbay Lodge is highly recommended. Clean, with quality furnishings made us feel "at home." Spacious and well equipped. We had rainy weather most of our stay, and did no fly-fishing. Our walks in the gaps in the weather, were greatly enjoyed, the mountains and the changing colours were spectacular! The abundance of firewood afforded the opportunity to dry out in comfort after rain drenching. The variety of bird life we could observe from Duckbay was another added surprise. The loaf of freshly baked bread and trout pate appreciated. Thanks to Natasha and team for a memorable stay. Goschen is well named after Joshua's mountain and valley portion of the Promised Land. It is a unique and beautiful place.

We stayed for three nights. The cottages are well appointed, rustic as the setting requires and have all you need including being serviced. Tash was wonderful, attentive and so helpful. We were also provided with a fresh loaf of bread with pate which was both thoughtful and delicious. Giants cup is a piece of heaven. The views and tranquility are priceless. The trout dam is such a beauty and on day 3 the fish were biting! A very special place. Thanks so much. We will be back!

This is such a special place to visit and stay over...let alone a premier wild trout fishing venue. It should actually be kept a secret! Beautiful. Very warm welcome from Natasha...and the staff who arrived with warm freshly baked farm bread and smoked trout pate. What a lovely treat.

Giants cup wilderness reserve is one of the most beautiful and stunning places we’ve ever had the joy of staying at. The views are simply breathtaking and the walks around the reserve and leading out onto the Giants Cup trail were food for the soul.
The birding is out of this world, whether you choose to bird from the the garden porch or down at the lake or any of the trails.
We were lucky enough to stay at both duck bay and otter cove cottages, both super pretty, modern, stylish and comfortable and spotlessly clean.
Natasha is a wonderful host, extremely knowledgeable, super friendly and very accommodating to our needs and our two very busy toddlers!
You have to see this place to experience the magic, it is very special!

We stayed in Duck Bay cottage for 3 nights. What a stunning place! The cottage is beautiful and the beds and bed linen are superb! Love the huge glass windows. The nice touches which give this place a point above the rest is that we were met personally on arrival by Emma who gave us lots of useful info. We also had a complimentary hot loaf of homemade special bread with a tub of smoked trout pate, yummy! Such a divine surprise, thank you!
The fishing was very good! Caught loads of fish, unfortunately no monsters but still😅 The quality of the fish were perfect.
The bird life is awesome. Also a great place for walks! The daily service was also excellent thank you!
If we had to make one suggestion, it would only be to put up large hooks to hold the fishing rods and to hang waders, booties etc.
Overall, a fantastic place, well worth a visit.

Beautiful, peaceful location. Enjoyed the walks within the property, and was also a good central location for day trip to Sani Pass and hiking trails (got to see dinosaur footprints and cave paintings). Some big trout in the dam and upstream. Eland roaming the surrounding hillsides.

Giants Cup Wilderness ticked all the boxes. If you are into fly fishing, hiking or just looking for a weekend away this is the spot. The dam is the most scenic and stunning trout dam in the country with gin clear water and hard fighting trout.

By far the best place to enjoy peace, tranquility and scenery. Very close to restaurants, Sani Pass and shops for essentials. The unit is stocked with firewood for heating and the jacuzzi bath is a lovely surprise

What time of the year is the best for hiking Giants Cup? We read they have scheduled "veld burns"
Answer from Natasha
1 contribution
Hi, Spring is always a good time of year for hiking as the thunder storms haven't yet started and the cold of winter has passed. There are 'veld burns' every winter around this time of year. Autumn is also always a great time for hiking.
