This place gets everything right. From the beautiful design, to the amazing staff, to the wonderful beautifully turned out and presented rooms. Tiny little touches really make it and lift this place onto another level. Generous shuttles down to town whenever you need to go. Amazing coffee available all day. The neighbourhood is great too with super restaurants - we were here during dreadful weather and thought all the above. And you are regularly visited by monkeys who have also cottoned on to fact this place is a must visit location! In fact I can not think of one flaw - other than it’s made me want to come back to South Africa way too soon after leaving ! Highly recommended on every level

What a great review, thank you! Thanks for noticing the subtle touches that focus on to set us apart - the design, the service, the extras, the attention to detail and, of course, the coffee! Sorry about the weather but I'm so glad that you enjoyed your stay regardless and that the monkeys played their part in providing some entertainment! I hope that you enjoyed the rest of your honeymoon in SA! Warm regards, Kim

Teremok is family run and managed which shows in so many ways. The attention to detail is wonderful to discover and experience. The rooms are beautiful with each room having a unique look and feel with lots of extra special touches. The décor throughout is tasteful, comfortable and enlivening. Breakfast is excellent and freshly prepared to order. An upmarket tea and coffee/cappuccino selection is freely available 24 hours a day with delicious home baked biscotti. These are included in the price and definitely add to the value of the accommodation. Lunch and dinner can be ordered at an additional cost; and served to you at the pool, in one of the many seated areas or your room. Although the menu is fairly small, there is a good variety and the food is fresh and delicious. Dietary preferences were graciously catered for and they can cater for vegans with prior notice. The pool area and gardens are peaceful and well maintained with comfy loungers and soft cotton weave towels. The rooms have luxurious robes and slip slops available to use for your stay which I found really added to the comfort and relaxation. There is a full spa on the premises and a boutique with a great selection of clothes from local designers and a few other items. The beach is within walking distance and free transport is also available to the beach, shops or restaurants in Umhlanga should you require it. It was spotlessly clean and all the staff were very friendly and professional. This was my first visit and will definitely not be my last. I found Teremok to be a very special place and it quietly snuck into my heart. It gets a definite thumbs up from me!

What a lovely spot for a tranquil break. From the moment one arrives, each and every staff member, makes you feel so welcome. Special mention to Ninette and Stephanie. If I ever opened a 5 star hotel I would want these ladies to operate it. The family owners also ensure their persoal touch is evident during your stay.
We called the lodge a few days before to ask if they had 2 specific dvd's for us to watch during our stay. When we arrived in the suite, both dvd's were already placed in our suite, with a very personal welcome note. Customer service reigns supreme here.
Each suite is individually furnished even down to the rooms own mood dvd and toiletries.
I so miss the complimentary coffee station and daily breakfast offerings. If you dont enjoy the freshly made muffins each day you are missing out.
Various spots about the lodge to sit, read a magazine, or simply enjoy the view
Im going to battle to stay in a corporate hotel in the future.
Thank you Team Teremok

The level of customer service is exceptional. The interior decor of the large rooms is rustic with an African feel. Sebela, who deals with assisting guests, is genuinely helpful with nothing being too much trouble. Local attractions are easily within walking distance, and if not, staff are attentive in providing reliable transportation. The venue is in a safe neighborhood and pubs are located nearby. Highly recommend.

Although I usually stay in large well know hotels, I was absolutely blown away with how lovely this small boutique hotel was to stay in. Unfortunately we only stayed one night but the whole experience was excellent. The room was large and beautiful, the food at breakfast was exceptional, the the spa treatment was very relaxing and the complimentary tea and coffee in the lounge was a really nice touch. From the initial booking to the time we left I was so impressed with the personal help and service we were given by the owners and staff. I would definitely choose the Teremok to stay in again.

We would thoroughly recommend this hotel to travellers to Umhlanga. The rooms are very well appointed and have all the facilities and amenities you can think of and are air conditioned. The beds are very comfortable.
The breakfast was amazing and the breakfast staff were so friendly and helped with everything.
There is a pantry in the sitting area where you can help yourself to coffee and tea and also an honesty bar with a wide variety of wines and spirits.
All the staff were very friendly and so helpful. We really appreciated the lifts to local restaurants and other attractions.
Than you for a wonderful few days !

I am truly amazed by the whole experience at Teremok and was sad to leave after 3 nights. The rooms are what I call romantic beachhouse/cottage style complete with candles and big bath tub as well as walk-in shower. The house has 8 rooms on different levels. We had the Milkwood and the Juliet suite, both wonderful but the Millwood being very impressive in size. There are many details they thought of such as bug spray, charging pad, beach bag and towels and bath robes for your use, even room fragrance that really make your feel at home. Service was always impeccable including booking of restaurants and checking in with us to see how our experience at the restaurants and spa was. Breakfast offers freshly made savory toasts, sweet cakes and tarts of excellent quality amongst fresh fruit and any type tea/coffee.

The area is very quiet, located just 1km from the centre with the mall and restaurants as well as 5 min by foot to the beach. The massage was very good (read “professional”!) and the many sitting areas of the house make it really cozy. They have plants everywhere together with quirky but tasteful decoration. I wouldn’t even consider staying anywhere else in this area.

Reviews like this remind is why we're in the hospitality industry - thank you! When we were brainstorming Teremok 20 years ago, we drew on what we liked and disliked when we travelled, to ensure that these areas were fulfilled/addressed, and it is always so rewarding to host guests who feel the same. Thank you for choosing Teremok, for enjoying our uniqueness and quirkiness, and for noticing the love that we've poured into the details of the property. We hope to welcome you 'home' again soon! Regards, Kim

Entering the Zodiac suite is like stepping through a torn veil into one of the parallel worlds created by Philip Pullman in "His Dark Materials" trilogy.
View of the wonderful garden with swimming pool, surrounded by a lush forest.
Interior on different levels, luxurious ethnic-style furnishings, lamps everywhere, bathtub in the bedroom, large wardrobe, fresh, soft sheets, an elegant dressing gown and a pair of slippers available, impeccably furnished bathroom, even the bidet in the separate toilet (a real luxury for us Italians to find abroad), room perfumers, excellent selection of bath products, very soft towels...
Breakfast varied and beautifully served: several menus available. All good and very fresh.
Possibility of ordering at external restaurants meals with delivery to the room.
A real dream that unfortunately lasted only two nights.
A real gem of courtesy to have allowed me to enjoy breakfast a full hour before the usual time, for my early morning departure.
I hope to return there with my partner.
Thank you for this dream stay.

Teremok is a family owner run boutique hotel, that is certainly a cut above the rest. From complimentary coffee bar, freshly baked goodies to almost perfect decor, this sets Teremok head and shoulders above it's competition. Tranquilty, serenity and privacy are keys here and it is no wonder that it is in such high demand.A refuge for discerning cliental.
Highly recommeneded

This is a beautiful lodge in the Umhlanga Rocks area with easy access to the beach & many restaurants. We stayed 2 nights and experienced a very welcoming team of staff, an incredible room with all the facilities you could ever wish for including a luxuriously comfortable bed, powerful shower, roll-top bath, private veranda - all adorned with unique and interesting decor which has clearly been very carefully chosen in order to create a special feeling for the guests.

The team will happily run a shuttle service to/from local restaurants and really go out of their way to make your stay relaxing & enjoyable. After checking out, we were able to leave our vehicle in their secure parking for a few hours while we explored the beach & had lunch, before making our way to the airport.

Breakfast is superb, with everything on offer; I'd especially recommend the spicy eggs with minced lamb - superb way to start the day!

The gardens are peaceful and beautifully maintained, with a very nice swimming pool for cooling off from the Durban heat.

We would definitely stay again!

Are twin bed configurations available ?
Answer from Kim Davidson
Umhlanga, South Africa
Hi Pam, Thank you for the message - just picked it up off TripAdvisor. I do apologise for the delay in getting back to you. Teremok has 2 rooms that can be converted into twin rooms. They are the Juliet and the Beethoven Suite. We would definitely be able to accommodate your request when you book accommodation ( would also depend on availability ). Should you require any additional information, please do not hesitate in contacting us. Warm Wishes Ninette du Plessis Operations Manager

Dear Natalia No problem at all. The KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board is based in Umhlanga, and they drop shark nets off the coastline, so all the bathing beaches are safe from sharks and have life guards. The beaches are very safe otherwise - the only problem that may arise is if the wind is blowing in the direction that brings in the blue bottles, then it's best to avoid the water or you may get stung. Our water temperatures are also very warm, so swimming is lovely. Regards, Kim
Answer from Kim D
Durban, South Africa20 contributions
Dear Natalia Thanks for your enquiry. Durban has the warm Benguela current running past it, so the water is always warm, especially in January which is mid-summer. See temperatures over that period range between 24 and 28 degrees Celsius. There are various places of interest to visit in Durban, depending on your interests. We would certainly recommend Ushaka Marine World, Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban's Golden Mile beachfront. In Umhlanga the promenade and beaches are lovely, the village is full of restaurants and some shops, and we have Gateway - the biggest shopping centre in the Southern Hemisphere - 4km away. We could also arrange tours with a guide - a Durban City Tour is recommended and you could also look at tour up to Phezulu Cultural Village. Please let us know if you have any other queries. Regards Kim (Davidson) Managing Owner
