The overall sevice was great, great breakfast and convenient location. I enjoyed the layouts of the room I and the facilitys. Being my second time staying there I hated the pillows they were to hard. The outside light did not allow for a dark room as there is no switch for it and it switches on automatically. I was up at 12 trying to find the switch. I recommend blockout curtains. But ill go there again.

An absolutely wonderful, homely experience. I normally stay in hotels, but they were fully booked. thanks goodness or would never have experienced
such a wonderful difference. The owners go beyond to make you feel at home.

My wife and I stayed here about a month ago. We have stayed at quite a few bed and breakfasts in Umhlanga and this is by far the worst one to date. Accomodation is not luxury and not up to the claimed four star standard. I would have checked out if we were allowed to. Rooms were large but pillows rock hard and uncomfortable. Breakfasts lacked variety with no fruit even. For the price charged I would recommend alternative accomodation rather.

My daughter made a reservation here through Expedia in September for December 26 check-in and received an Expedia confirmation and the Milkwood Mansion did NOT honor the reservation. This is not a reputable place.

Hi Mark, Thank you for taking your time to express your feelings towards Milkwood Mansion, It has come to my attention that you were very angry and hostile when you contacted us, I would really like to write an apology for your misunderstanding and not so much about our "dishonesty" we didn't accept your booking because we were already fully booked, which is why you only had a confirmation fro Expedia and not from us... and also they work with virtual card paying system... which means that we didn't even have your money because details are only valid on departure of guest, but you were ready to call the cops without listening to our side of the story. I hope that one day you will see that we honor all our booking, because that is what our business is about. Have a blessed 2016 forward! Regards, Elaine

Excellent staff and rooms. Just one minor issue where there was a leak in the room when there were heavy rains on the friday. Will definitely stay again. Breakfast was great as well. Will refer to others to book there.

If I could have checked out there and then - I would have! Website claims luxury accommodation! It is definitely not luxury! Granted rooms are fairly large but housekeeping / maintenance lacks. Bed flat sheet had an old blood stain, bathroom was dusty, glass shelf in shower had tooth paste stains, shower soap bar handle broken and liquid soap dispenser rusty.
If you like sleeping on bricks than this is your place! Pillows are ROCK hard. Breakfast lacked variety - no fruits, no cold meat or cheese selection. I do not recommend this place!

Rooms are spacious yet furniture needs a clean. Towels all different colours - inconsistent standard. We found the guest house to be very noisy when showers and toilets are used. Saturday night got back and the neighbours were having a party so could not sleep till they had ended. Pillows are hard as rock so perhaps take your own. Staff very friendly and breakfast - although basic was nice. We were at a trade show so did not spend too much time there other than at night.

When we arrived at Milkwood Mansion nobody really seemed to be in charge of the place. Both bedside table lamps and the safe in our room did not work, but this was rectified within a day.
The breakfast buffet was another issue. In an establishment that charges R1000 per night I would expect a proper coffee machine, dispensing various types of coffee, not instant coffee and a kettle you have to boil yourself. The communal butter dish is not ideal either. It would be nicer to provide individual serves of butter. A lot of the glasses and crockery were cracked and chipped.
The second night I tried to warm up some take-away curry. One of the girls on site told me that unfortunately, both the microwave and the oven did not work and as far as I know no effort was made to repair these appliances. The grassed area in the back and the area around the pool were not well maintained. The grass needed cutting and old leaves, lolly papers etc. were left around the pool. Even the pool itself was not clean, as the Kreepy Crawley could not cope with the amount of droppings from the palmtree next to it, although the pump was running 24/7.
The shower screen did not close properly and because there was no shower mat supplied the bathroom floor became wet and slippery after having a shower.
Also, the Executive Room did not have a desk where computer work could be done. The dressing table in the room is unfortunately too high.
I will definitely not return to Milkwood Mansion.

What lovely accomodation! The house itself is gorgeous and clean, the view is amazing, and the helper was friendly and efficient. Our room had everything we needed. The greatest attraction for me though is that it also caters so well for children. It felt like home away from home, we will definitely go back again.
