It was out first time visiting this resort and it was really great, and will recommend it to everybody.
They were revamping the entrance during our stay but the staff went out of their way to ensure the guests were minimally disrupted.
I would like a cold water shower at the pools to wash off after swimming similar to that that you get when coming from the beach.
Possibly a braai tong and braai meat dish to put your meat into after braaing are the only suggestions I can make.
it was fantastic relaxing holiday. THANKS

From the second you enter the hotel, you just know you’ll be enjoying your stay. The room we stayed in (4 sleeper) was luxurious and spacious for us and the two kids and had a breathtaking view of the ocean (waking up to dolphins swimming passed).

The pool area, including water sides, is a winner, especially with the kids. There are constant activities for kids and adults to keep everyone busy. Cocktails and food are ordered from the various restaurants and there is a Milky Lane on site.

The promenade is literally 30m from the pool area and the beach another couple of meters from that making the hotel the ideal location.

Definitely a place I’d want to revisit.

Had a short visit with my wife. Resort public areas unfortunately under construction, but various excursions arranged by management e.g bus to Gateway Shopping Mall, Bus to Ushaka Marine World, bus to Mitchell Park (small zoo and great lunch facility), bus to Flag Animal Farm, bus to Balito Junction Mall. Lahleh was bus driver on all excursions - very helpful and friendly.
Room was neat. Unfortunately midweek the TV broke down and after a few complaints we were moved to an alternate room, where it appears food had been burnt and the smell was very pronounced. Aircon was also not functioning that well.
Parking availabe on property - for a small fee under roof. Trailor parking also available.
Swimming pools very clean and lots of entertainment for families. Evening entertainment in Coco Bar was very goo
Maestro staff appear to be a bit dejected - restuarant closing and they are not sure if they will have employment!

My stay was disappointing to say the least - We were not advised on the construction that was going to be taking place. One elevator was working for almost the entire week. My kids were running around with construction workers all over the place with hazardous objects and ladders and nails right in front of the escape room and furthermore my kids safety with these random people. My room was cleaned after 12 or maybe even 2 on days that I was lucky each day so my kids could not have afternoon naps after our morning swim. I am not sure if the construction team and hotel met with health and safety experts prior to commencing - The evening staff seemed lazy - The staff were not very accommodating taking into accoufact that were were working between objects over broken tiles in between construction tools. I have been once before two Umhlanga Sands and this experiencing was disappointing to say the least. Was mine and my families safety taken into consideration at all? Has it become just about the money? Do I not work hard to deserve a well afforded break with my family? Anything could have happened at the entrance of the xscape room to my kids and then was would you have just said sorry? Was this considered that children would be running and out and around? We were moved to the 7th floor with inter leading rooms? Did we ask for those rooms? No There was no privacy although family we still require our privacy. Moved to the 7th floor with one lift working.

I checked in to the Umhlanga Sands Resorts n Saturday 21st Nov 2020. I was very very disappointed with the condition of the rooms. In this time of Covid, cleanliness should be given top priority.

When we checked in, we were given room 1710. When I got to the room, the bed had dust, and black spots on it. The sheets, pillow slips and covers, were a different shade of brown. There was a wrapper on the floor, making me think that this room was not cleaned. Happy to share pics on whatsapp.

I went back down to reception and was moved to another room which was 1610. When I got to that room, the door was opened. Furthermore there was a dirty dish cloth left on the dressing table. I called reception, and asked Tarshan (who checked us in) to come up with a manager. Unfortunately no manager was around at the time, so he came up with Felicia. I showed him the dirty dishcloth, as well as the pubic hair on the top covers of the bed, as well as hair, and what looked like shed skin. Both Felicia and Tarshan where also shocked at what they saw. Anyways, Felicia proceeded to get housekeeping in there and changed all the sheets, covers, as well as mattress protector, as it had brown stains all over it.

A few minutes later maintenance also came to the room as the sliding door was seized, and it need to be “loosened”. Whilst they where there, I had a manager, Carissa come up to the room, and had to relay the issues again. By that time I was tired, frustrated, and annoyed at the fact that I had friends who came up to visit, and I had maintenance men, housekeeping and a manager to see to.

Apart from this, a few things I noticed wrt the construction/renovations taking place, is that the guys who are doing the job, are trapsing up and down, with no masks, holding the tools that are dropping dust all over receptions etc.

I am shocked and appalled at whoever the project manager is of the whole renovations. Clearly there is no coordination, and reception area becomes very unsightly with construction workers, walking up and down, whilst people are trying to check in, or go to their rooms, as well as the beach.

I am sorry, but the worst thing that any resort could do right now, is drop the ball on cleanliness, in light of the Covid 19 virus we are currently experiencing.

Negatives:
During our stay at the Umhlanga Sands Hotel, we encountered several disappointing aspects that led to a two-star rating. Firstly, the rooms were not cleaned to an acceptable standard, which left us feeling uncomfortable throughout our visit. Additionally, the lack of maintenance was evident, with various areas in need of attention.

The elevators were a cause for concern as well, as they occasionally got stuck, causing inconvenience and potential safety issues. One of the most frustrating experiences was waiting for a porter, which took an astonishing 1 hour and 55 minutes, seriously impacting our overall impression of the hotel’s service.

Moreover, the state of the bathrooms was subpar, with showers that didn’t even close properly, resulting in water spilling throughout the entire bathroom, making it unpleasant and unhygienic.

Positives:
On a brighter note, the Umhlanga Sands Hotel does boast unparalleled views of the ocean and an excellent location. The breathtaking vistas provided a calming and serene atmosphere, adding a touch of positivity to an otherwise disappointing stay.

While the views and location are commendable, the hotel’s lack of attention to cleanliness, maintenance, and service leaves much to be desired. We hope these issues are addressed promptly, as they significantly impact the overall experience of guests.

I love the Sands although this year there was a few hickups. The TV give problems for my whole period of stay. the safe was broken I could not get the basin prop open the matress on the mainbedroom bed and the pillows need to be replaced or at least turn arroud or something but I had a back pain every morning. in the second bedroom there was some goggos that bites. We bought doom spray but it didnt help so we report it and also asked for a proper clean. the bases are very heavy and one could not expect the cleaning girl to move it alone. As I am disabled it was a disaster to get on and of the frondpatio to the parking. I also spoke to Franco (as the manager was not available) and asked very nicely for an extra stair in the normal pool, just before you get out of the pool. there are a lot of old people there when my weeks is on and not all of us can get uot of the pool as the last step out is just to high. This last remark is just a big "help us please"

The hotel accommodation is excellent with amazing views. Good entertainment for the whole family during the Dec holidays.
Staff attitude and housekeeping needs a huge improvement as extremely unhelpful and do not want to assist. Housekeeping standards are extremely poor as needed to request items after cleanup almost daily.

3 years in a row visiting here and never a single regret.

This hotel is absolutely stunning, recently refurbished all rooms a beautifully decorated, modern and a view to die for.

Pool area always well maintained and perfectly clean. Currently there is only Spur on site as Mugg & Bean is still under construction.

Staff friendly and helpful, hotel 100% COVID 19 compliant with several sanitization stations, temperature checks and record keeping.

Close walking distance to restaurants and grocery shops, walking along the promenade just outside the hotel will take you everywhere you need to go.

Unfortunately, no longer the peaceful resort it once was after many years of regularly booking and enjoying our family holidays.

There are little to no access controls to the ground floor facilities and anyone off of the street can simply stroll in and hang around which made us question the overall safety and exclusivity of the resort, especially if you have young children or elderly parents.

Every day very loud music from the entertainment area blares endlessly and aimlessly from early in the mornings until late in the evenings off of crackling, out of tune speakers with unreasonable amounts of bass leaving us all with perpetual headaches while staying high up on the 16th floor.

The GM, Anthony, strangely justified these issues as a result of being a 'high energy resort' when dismissing our concerns outright and we ended up leaving in the middle of our stay after experiencing additional maintenance issues in the room we were staying in. Note that you will not receive a refund should you leave early due to bookings being made through the timeshare system.

Excellent views and an excellent location but would not recommend unless you are comfortable with a rowdy holiday environment.

Sadly will not be returning and I hope that the resort will revert to its previous management style which ran the show in a professional and classy manner while still executing a high energy atmosphere.

The current management should, in the least, seek to strike a balance in providing a relaxing, safe atmosphere to all and value the concerns of its guests.
