I could not believe my eyes when driving up to the hotel after a long overnight flight from Europe. The location is just incredible, right on the shoreline. Check in was very calm and easy, sitting down civilised at a desk while being offered a wet towel and drink while you do your paper work. Then I was shown to my room and I was just delighted. The room was bright airy, fresh and has an absolutely unbelievable view of the Indian Ocean, beach, promenade and lighthouse. I did not know whether to go out and enjoy the uMhlanga vibe or just sit on my balcony and absorb that view. A suggestion from me is get up and watch the sunrise over the ocean if you have a room with an Ocean view.

Anyway, room was spacious and spotless, bed comfortable. Good air con in the room too, safe (big enough for my laptop) and a minibar. Staff also were just excellent and I could not have had a better weekend. Thank you very much

Every once in a while, you come across and have the pleasure of visiting a true gem, which this time around was within an hour’s flight from Johannesburg to Durban, with a short drive to Umhlanga to the BEVERLY HILLS HOTEL…

From our arrival at this hotel, after being personally greeted by their amazing General Manager, John, did we know it was going to a special weekend! Exactly what was needed after a very busy and stressful year. On top of this warm welcome, was the stunning interior, which welcomed us “home” for the weekend!

The rooms are very spacious, all with their own balcony with endless views of the ocean over the massive swimming pool with loungers and umbrellas; and for those early birds to witness the sunrise from. Each room has the necessary amenities and personal touch. The warm weather all year around made Saturday the perfect day for us to chill next to the pool, looking out on the endless views over the ocean from our lounger and being treated like a King and Queen, with a few drinks ordered from their impressive “Cocktail Menu”.

The staff are all incredibly friendly, helpful and professional. The food was amazing (especially their curry – which is very well known amongst the locals) and were we particularly impressed with the safety protocols followed and implemented by the Hotel during these “uncertain” times.

A weekend was most definitely too short… Next time it will have to be for longer…

It was indeed a gem of a stay…

Booked into the hotel on Sunday 27th Sept, we were greeted with a friendly welcome and a glass of Bubbly. The Hotel is beautiful and offers breath taking views of the ocean and lighthouse. The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean. Amenities and towels are great as well. The staff are magnificent and attend to your every need. The protocols taken by the hotel due to covid restrictions were absolutely brilliant, From upon check in - to the breakfast buffet proper santization is ensured as well as regular temperature checks. This makes guests feel safe yet they can still enjoy all their facilities. The breakfast was scrumptious and a large variety was available. The only negative comment that I have would be that the curtains and balcony need maintainance.

There were instances of waiting 40 minutes for a bottle of beer by the pool, having to constantly chase up orders such as 3 calls asking for a peppermint tea bag to our room. Another time we waited 1 hour for an ice bucket. One day we waited 45 minutes for our green tea and black coffee after sitting down at breakfast and another it was around an hour before our eggs Benedict arrived. There were also two or three instances of housekeeping (and other staff) entering into our room when we had 'Do Not Disturb' on. Then at the end we received 3 conflicting messages from 3 different members of staff (including the Manager) regarding whether it would be possible to retain our room an extra 3 hours for late checkout. In the end we were told this isn't possible at the last moment by the Manager who's only offer to compensate us was to insist she would discipline the member of staff who advised us differently the day before. We insisted this was not what we were expecting her to do. Beverly Hills has a beautiful setting and amazing location however it is let down by the quality of service of all the staff from breakfast to poolside to housekeeping to management.

We have been visiting this property at least once a year for the past 20 years and are staying here now (December 18, 2020) Unfortunately you can see a decline in the small details that indicate a little less attention to detail and service. We had booked earlier in the year and were subsequently called to pay immediately so as not to lose our booking? Upon checking in we were quoted a very high rate, when showing our booking they honored the original rate? No Castle Lager, no Strawberry Daiquiri? Huge noise from the room above us(can’t blame this on the hotel, they did get them to quiten down after complaints from us and another guest) General decline in state of repair and crispness of service, although the Sugar club was great. Sad to have to write this. Tom Pullen.

Initial contact was excellent and welcoming. The room was average with tired and mediocre wardrobes and bathroom door which needed a lock of paint. Our fridge was broken which we only realized on the second day when our milk had soured. Breakfast service was erratic and inconsistent. Most staff were pleasant and obliging and professional.
Best factor is the location with wonderful walks along the promenade and within walking distance to all amenities in the town.

We were looking for a hotel close to King Shaka airport. This is only a 15/20 minute drive away so ideal especially if you have an early morning flight.
Well presented hotel in a very safe area and nice to be able to walk to nearby restaurants and take a stroll along the beach/sea front. Access to the beach is direct from the hotel also.
We were offered complimentary refreshments as soon as we walked in the door and the staff could not have been more helpful during our stay.
Reception made us a dinner reservation at a nearby restaurant that we wanted to go to and offered us an early morning breakfast either in room or "packed up to go" as we were leaving at 4.30am.
We stayed in a king ocean front room & it was very well presented and comfortable.
If I go to Durban again I would definitely stay here.

In spite of my title/heading, it wasn’t a bad stay. When one travels a lot oversees and you have 5 star hotels to compare it to, one realizes the standard here in SA has dropped. It just looked like the Beverly Hills has lost its spark. The breakfast was exactly the same for 5 days and not wow at all. (I’m taking into account it’s lockdown level 2).

Our rooms were always clean that’s a plus. I loved the variety of different chocolates next to my bed every night. Nice touch.

Lovely staff but not as sharp as one would expect for a 5 star hotel. And by that I mean they never and I mean NEVER answered their phone when I called for room service or in room dining or anything else. I expressed my dismay and they apologized but that has never happened to me at any hotel.

The pool restaurant was closed from the Monday through to Wednesday so we had to eat at small tables in the upstairs lounge. A little uncomfortable. And the noise level in the lounge was through the roof over the weekend. We’re not sitting in a park, we’re in a 5 star hotel. Big difference.

The few times we ordered a meal, in room as well it was very good. Will I go back? Probably not.

Dear Nash B, Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding you stay. I am sorry to see that some of the areas did not meet your expectations. Unfortunately during the period of your stay we were operating with some stringent Covid-19 regulations that the staff has been trying their best to work around and for a 5 star Hotel this was affected in many ways. The pool bar may have been closed but we were serving meals and beverages on the pool. We were also operating with limited staff due to Covid regulations of which i am glad to inform you that this has greatly improved and the level and quality of service is back to our best. I do hope that you shall understand that we were operating under very difficult circumstances but we are now back to the best of service. I do hope that you shall give us a chance and stay with us to experience our great hospitality. Kind Regards John

This hotel is set on the coast; a superb location. We experienced excellent service from the team at the hotel; particularly from the hotel's limo drivers. Draven and Julian were excellent in carrying out their duties in a professional and conscientious manner. Food and Beverage is of very good quality. The outdoor pool was heated to 28 degrees C which made swimming very comfortable. Our main disappointment was the cramped size of the bedroom and the bathroom. There is a great variety of good restaurants within easy and safe walking distance of the hotel.

Hi Moses. Hotel will provide you with the best room, suitable for your family. These guys are the kindest and most professional I have seen so far. Yes, the pool is outdoors, but it is heated and suitable for swimming all year round. Enjoy your time. Good choice!

So you cannot swim in the water directly in front of the hotel however the main swimming beach is a very short walk where there is a designated life guard controlled beach. I can't say much about the water temperature though, however Durban water always seems pretty good to me, no matter what time of year.
