Booked in for 2 nights and was allocated a spacious room on the 6th floor, in fact I think all of our group had rooms with 2 double beds. Rooms were very comfortable and spotlessly clean with everything you need such as toiletries & hair dryer. They also have the absolute best duvets and pillows I have ever come across in a hotel. I'd like to find out where the pillows came from and buy some for home.
Reception staff were pleasant and helpful. The doorman / security person even walked my colleague to the nearest ATM to make sure she was safe while drawing cash.
Breakfast was good but I found there were not enough people on the floor to serve tea & coffee, maybe they should think of making this self-service. Most of the hot foods were not to my taste but the scrambled eggs and omelette were very good. There was enough breakfast selection to suit most people.
Great location with restaurants all around. i would go back anytime.

Rooms are lovely although nowadays I prefer Airbnb regardless due to lockdowns & COVID-19 restrictions I’ll stick to Airbnb. The only issues now no complimentary water & got to ask them daily for some coffee...the worst is the noise within the rooms unbelievable cannot say sound proofing is good at all so if you wanting peace while in a business trip I’ll defer this hotel otherwise good for a holiday only. Breakfast still not as good cause of Covid I actually canceled breakfast & went to mug & bean rather...maybe next year sometime it’ll be normal but fir now I cannot say it’s good.

Room
Newly renovated rooms with modern design is a spacious family room with two double beds. The room has has a dining area which comes to great use when traveling with toddlers and an early curfew.
*Housekeeping can improve on they service.

Location
The pier and beach walkway is a 10 minutes walk. The hotel is located is vibey street that offers various restaurants, center's,  pharmacy and nightlife.

*Stay on a higher floor at the noise from the restaurants downstairs can be heard in your room.

Breakfast
My booking did not include breakfast.
*If your stay does not include breakfast they is a Woolworths Food, Mary's Joe's and Vida cafe for breakfast.

Pool area

The pool area is to small and comfortable. With such am amazing view they us so much more that can be done with this area.

Covid 19 Protocol
The hotel has various sanitizing points. Including outside and inside the left.

The staff were friendly and helpful.
I will be back!

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel other than the proximity to the beach it wasn’t amazing, the room was poorly serviced and when we arrived there was a frozen broken bottle of water in the ice box. It was there the entire time we were there and also when we left so guessing not a lot of actual cleaning is happening. I spoke to the front of desk staff and basically got a blank stare. Same blank stare when I said I had booked a room with a queen and got a weird room with two double beds

This hotel is perfectly situated in the centre of Umhlanga's cafe and restaurant high street just before the beach.
We stayed there with our two children 8 & 9. Rooms fresh and modern equipped. Relatively spacious for the very reasonable rates we paid. All well maintained. Quite a few families staying there too.
Garage Parking is perfect too.

The hotel is beautiful, nice big room (we booked 2 queen beds room). The bathroom is lovely shower big enough. The staff were friendly and helpful. The only complaint i have is with the breakfast, yoh please save your money and only pay for accommodation and go have breakfast at Spur or something. I know it's Lockdown but that doesn't mean that the standard that we are used to must go to the dogs. As a matter of fact i turned back my plate, because it was just dog food . There is no buffet in all hotels at the moment because of Covid-19 but there are some who serve a real breakfast with everything even if it's take and go.

Dear Dudu M Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback, thus assisting us in continually improving our standards. We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the disappointment you experienced with our new breakfast standard. Currently we are offering a plated menu option due to buffet style breakfast not allowed due to COVID-19. This however does not mean the our offering should not be of a high quality. We would like to assure you that this is not our normal standard. All GUESTS are very important to us and everything possible is done by our hotel TEAM to ensure that our GUESTS feel as special and valued as they are. We appreciate your bringing the shortcomings and problems you experienced to our attention and the constructive way in which this was done. We can assure you that your comments have been taken to heart and addressed with the people concerned, and that corrective action has been taken. Assuring you of our best service and personal attention at all times! Yours sincerely Sharon Wessels, Assistant General Manager

We chose this hotel based on location (walk to beach and restaurants), comfort /spaciousness (from a past visit and with a known brand), pricing and the facility of a pool.

There are essentially 2 towers to this hotel. The newer tower has the nicer rooms and are more spacious, but we opted for a room with a bath as well and were still happy with the size of the room with the 2 queen beds. The staff accommodated our request to change rooms with speed and were friendly and professional throughout our stay.

We would like to make one suggestion - granted this is perhaps more of a business hotel and leisure guests will go to the beach not the pool - but there may be some like us - who like to spend time at a pool too. A little background music would be welcome.

This is a comfortable business hotel. Rooms are decently sized and bathrooms are okay too, the washbasin is a small one though. Couple of bummers : Gave one glass bottle of water, replenishments were in the form of plastic bottles. If you ask for the same glass bottle (which I do because of environmental reasons), they don't give it. Breakfast was very decent and overall service was good. A big issue is that they dont have room service for food. They have only beverages that can be ordered to your rooms! The reason is 'we have many restaurants around us'. I found this to be funny. Hotel is well located and opt for higher floors for good views.

We had a wonderful experience at this beach hotel. Each and every member of the staff we interacted with greeted us with a smile (even evident under their masks!) and a genuine concern for us and if we needed anything.

The breakfast was good and plentiful and again the staff went to great lengths to ensure all was in order.

We were also very impressed with the COVID protocols which were efficient, effective and also consistent... not something we can say for every place we have stayed during our travels.

We stayed at the Protea Hotel Umhlanga on the 14-15 July 2023 and really enjoyed our stay. The rooms are space with a large bathroom and lovely shower. The corner room we stayed in had a gorgeous view. We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet that was included in the room rate and the gentleman manning the egg station was amazing. We would love to visit this hotel again soon.
