Additionally, it's just about 15 minutes from the Gateway Promenade, which offers beautiful views and a lighthouse.
Positives
Staff are pleasant
The location is the only good aspect about this property
Cons
No MiniBar in Room
Noise travels easily. Next door room had blasted music.
TV is outdated - with the price you paying for the room it should be way better!
Hairdryer is very old and didn't work
Bedroom was very untidy, sheets were creased, duvet cover was rumpled up
No coffee/sugar/creamer - requested from housekeeping nothing came
We paid for breakfast on arrival was told its not included with bookings.com thank God Gateway is within walking distance.
As for parking, it's a headache
Keycard kept malfunctioning, in my stay I had to visit to the reception so many times.
The staff were friendly. The guy at the bar charged me R100 for 2 tequilas but when a different guy came he charged us R50 for two tequilas which was a little odd. They gave us dirty tequila glasses just rinsed them which isn't really following Covid protocol.
The breakfast was good except for the scrambled eggs. They were the worst scrambled eggs I have ever eaten.
Otherwise it wasn't bad, but it was quite an underwhelming experience altogether.
The room whilst spacious and comfortable, has poor interior decor reminiscent of a back packers lodge instead of a 3 star rated hotel.
Cover sheets have long been removed as an industry standard yet this hotel persists with the tradition.
The greatest disappointment was that the air conditioning unit did not work and the inside temperature reached 25 to 26 degrees centigrade during the day and at night with only the fan working but no refrigerated air coming into the room.
The room was so hot that it impossible to sleep or rest in such heat.
Durban and Umhlanga have a sub tropical temperatures throughout the year and it would be refreshing to be served cold bottle water or a cold complimentary drink on arrival at the hotel or in the room, especially when no bar fridge is provided. But no such offer was available to the guests.
Furthermore there was no complimentary bottled water in the room and I later discovered no facial tissues for guests which is usually provided in other hotels.
It was my first experience at an aha affiliated hotel and it was a great disappointment when compared to the Protea group of hotels in South Africa.
My call to the manager to report my bad experience has obtained no results yet and this adds to the bad experience.
Accordingly I do not recommend this hotel to any traveler visiting Umhlanga Rocks.
Tv was too old bed was not comfy at all, some spots were sunken in.
Was just a huge disappointment.
