The hotel is very basic poorly maintained and the service generally is very limited. You go to the breakfast room, no one welcomes you or explain how the hot breakfast works, self service or what. there is no indication what to do. So I ate cereal and had the worst coffee I had to make myself. AsI got up to leave a lady strolled towards me asking me if I wanted to order breakfast. The Gym and spa areas are very dirty and unkept, I went to have sauna but was worried I will catch disease. To go to my room I had to passManagers office, door open and what a mess no wonder the hotel look the way it looks. I could only get the local state TV the Very limited M-Net channels weren't working. The room had a very sweet detergent smell that is very overdearing and gives you a headache. The security at the parking is poor. there is a guard that is not wearing a uniform staring at his mobile and don't even move if you approach. Extremely unprofessional

Terrble and blant service, food was overcooked, no plug efficient to charge my phone. The security officer at the gate was very rude. The walls are paper thin and could listen to everything going on in other rooms. Room service is overpriced. Aircon in the room was not at all satisfactory.

This hotel is in a very bad condition. The aircon doesn’t work, the lift doesn’t work, the pool area has been neglected and there is no gym as advertised. Would not recommend at all. This has been a bad experience and they do not mention any of these out of order things when you book.

As a first time booking it was the worst experience ever! I was living on the second floor and next to me was 4 prostitutes staying in number 33. The traffic, noises and fights that was coming from their room was unbearable.

I decided to confront then about their doing as I wanted to relax and enjoy my holiday and paying R2100 for a room per night ain't cheap. They basically gave me lip and said what they do are their own business and I must stay out of it. I then called the police station 4 times to report their wrong doings but there was simply no awnser. 4times!

I then reported them to reception and they told me that they paid for the room and they can do whatever they want to in their room. It's the first hotel I came across in my life that supports prostitution and this for me is totally unacceptable. I asked the hotel if I can get my money back so that I could book a new hotel but the response was that it's impossible to give the refund in full to me. They also didn't even offer to move me to a new room. All I can say is that it felt that this hotel is in on their business and I won't recommend it to anybody that is trying to relax and enjoy the beauty of Umhlanga.

Its sad really - this is a really great looking hotel, in a great area and has really great food - but I wont stay here again. Why? Two main issues

1 - Entertainment - In a modern hotel you expect some form of in room entertainment - their minimal TV selection does just not cut it - if you cut out the SABC and ETV junk, kids channel (1) and news channel (1) - then you are left with only 3 choices of which 1 is family movies - 1 is normal movie and then mnet series (which is just advert after advert..) so if you are a business traveler then you have basically ONE movie channel and if you don't happen to switch the TV on at the start of the movie ..you have nothing - almost ALL other hotels I stay at have a much wider selection and movies on demand - this should be fixed!

2 - NOISE - I have stayed here twice and both times this really irritated me - if you are in a room anywhere close to the lift shaft (which is most of the rooms as its a small hotel) you can hear every time the lift goes up and down. The in room fridge is very noisy - I have to switch mine off. Then there is the crazy music that is piped in all the corridors? Why? Why? and why at such volumes and why at 11 pm at night and 6 am in the morning? - I had to phone reception twice to ask them to turn it down? weird ..I dont understand the point of this. Then if you are are anywhere above the restaurant - the noise comes straight up ..I think the walls are paper...Then to top it all you have (on BOTH occasions I stayed there) the cleaning staff moving rubbish bins at 11pm outside the windows making a huge noise and they have a LOT of bins...

Last moan - on both occasions the fancy LED lights on the headboard gave issues to me and other guests I heard complaining about them, both times TV's had technical issues....

On the positive side - the rooms are great, bathrooms fantastic, staff friendly and helpful, awesome beds and food is really good and its a new hotel in a good central location

So - with a bit more attention to detail (i.e. room inspections BEFORE guest find all the items not working) and some double glazing and termination of the stupid passage music and a discussion with staff about late night / early morning noise - it would be a really great hotel
