My family has stayed at Kingston House B&B twice in the last two years: for one month in November 2009 and for two nights in April 2011. My husband, my children and I have stayed in the Serengeti Room and the Garden Suite and my parents (who were with us on vacation in April 2011) stayed in the Ndlovu Suite. John and Cathy are exceptionally warm and gracious hosts, the rooms are impeccable (the furnishings are beautiful) and the food -- outstanding! The two-course breakfasts outdid anything we had ever experienced at a B&B and for a very reasonable additional fee, John and Cathy will provide an absolutely scrumptious (think gourmet!) dinner upon request (except Friday evenings).

During our (one month) stay in November 2011, John and Cathy were particularly gracious and patient. My husband and I had travelled to South Africa to adopt our oldest son (who was almost three years old at the time) and, as can be expected, the adjustment came with some (behavioral) challenges. John and Cathy were very sympathetic to our challenges and provided much needed support. They were also willing to provide a meal for us every night of our stay, which allowed my husband and me to focus entirely on building our relationship with our son. The B&B is also a two-minute drive from the stunning beach at Umhlanga Rocks and much of our relationship building was done through building sand castles on the beach!

Our family returned to Kingston House B&B (with my parents) as part of a vacation to KZN and Eastern Cape in April 2011. Once again, we were amazed at the quality of the B&B. John and Cathy were particularly attentive to our every need and ensured that our stay -- this time as a family of four (children: 4 and 8 months) -- was spectacular. We left the B&B feeling very rested. : )

Kingston House B&B caters mostly to business travelers and adults -- however, John and Cathy are very welcoming to families with children as well. You will not be disappointed!

We really enjoyed our stay for one night at this gorgeous guesthouse before leaving for UK the next day. We had the elephant room and would definitely book this and look no further next time we're in Durban. The room was spacious, had a lovely patio, an amazing view of the Indian Ocean and a wonderfully comfortable bed. Breakfast was a treat. The host is so helpful and obliging- we look forward to our next visit!

Away from the hustle and bustle of Umhalanga/Durban this property is a peaceful place to relax after long day of site seeing. The owner is very helpful and in spite of the fact that we reached there at midnight he was personally available to help us settle in. The rooms are large spacious and also the decor was good. The breakfast was good and the owner even catered for our vegetarian friends.
We good some travelling tips from the owner and was able to explore the food and tourist places of Durban.
Some of the rooms have Jacuzzi but make sure you talk to the owner on the usage T&C. There is a nice library on the 1st floor which has good collection of books for bookworms.

I recently spent a week at Kingston House whilst working on a project in Durban. The owners really went above and beyond to make me feel welcome, cared for and at home. The staff are cheery and breakfast is delicious. I certainly will be back!

First time I have stayed in a B&B for a long time and this was truly 1st class. The owners are very friendly plus very efficient. The breakfast was better than most 5 star hotels. The location is good and at all times I felt very safe.

Hello! We stayed at this place sometime in March, and being a younger couple, were quite impressed by the hospitality extended to us by the owner. A very pleasant Rhodesian man might I add. The breakfasts are tailor made and the penthouse suite boasts great views and a Victorian bath. Next time you're down, give this place a try! Plus, its right close to Umhlanga!

A beautifully appointed guesthouse with everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. We were met at the airport by Cathy and her husband cooked a superb breakfast. The rooms are luxurious and spotlessly clean, and the gardens are beautiful. I wish we could have stayed longer than one night. We'll certainly be back.

The hosts did everything possible to make the stay successful and enjoyable. I strongly recommend Kingston House. The internet connection was much better than in all the hotels I stayed at in South Africa, including a 5 star one in Cape Town.
