The wheelchair accessibility at the resort was very good. There is a generous ramp from the undercover parking garage to the reception floor. There are three lifts that service all the floors (big enough for a wheelchair and perhaps two other people). Generators keep the lifts in working order during load shedding. The outside passages (from the lifts to the units) are wide enough.
All the units are classified as wheelchair friendly and in essence they are. The only problem is that the bathrooms can only be classed as tiny, with no chance of a wheelchair fitting through the door. On the 5th and 9th floors, there is a disabled bathroom outside in the passage, located between units 1 and 2 on those floors, that provide spacious facilities and a shower with a built-in shower chair.
The lounge and outside space are accessible, with a disabled bathroom located on Floor 0 where the lounge/restaurant/spa/hairdresser are. The pathway outside to the beach and promenade is a little steep but quite do-able in a wheelchair. Likewise with the wooden pathway to the Hawaan forest, although there are some steep areas that require a push.

Breakers hotel was a wonderful stay. We were upgraded to a larger suite on arrival and check in was efficient. Staff go out of their way to please guests which made the stay even more pleasurable. The restaurant staff at the hotel's Reef Restaurant were fabulous. Chef Linda was outstanding! Daily Family activities including Trivia, Braai Night, etc were arranged by the fun entertainment team. All Breakers Staff deserve our gratitude for making us feel welcome.

For Eco-tourism enthusiasts the location of Breakers is ideal alongside the Umhlanga Lagoon Nature reserve (Bird Park/protected lands), were you can view amazing flora and fauna while lounging on the hotel property. The Umhlanga board walk is a must for incredible walks with spectacular Indian ocean views. A large selection of great resto/bar options within close proximity.

From our arrival we were feeling welcome and at home and all COVID19 regulations were adhered to without making you feel you you are policed. The apartment at night had the most beautiful view over the brightly lit swimming pool on the ocean. The public places were very clean and we always had people ready to serve. Our apartment was clean and comfortable and management immediately gave attention to our problem regarding a bad smoke odor.

When we first booked in and went to our room, there was a jackhammer noise from above. It was horrendous & lasted a few hours. The studio room we were in was aweful. The bed was good but other than that, nothing was good. The sofa was totally worn out & uncomfortable. The kitchen was so small. The cupboards & microwave were so high I would need stepladder to reach. There was no room in the cupboards, so where are we supposed to put our groceries. There was no scatter rugs. The room just had no comfort at all. The bathroom was so small. The shower was over the bath. There was no anti-slip mat. I went to the reception to ask for one and the guy said he didn't think they have such a thing. I was going to the shop to buy one when my husband asked a lady at the reception about the non slip mat & she said she would organize this. The shower was high to climb in. The safety rail was in the wrong place. We are in our 70s. We could easily have had an accident in there. The telephone in the room was not working. There is no Wi-Fi in the rooms, When we had loadshedding, the generator only supplies power to the corridors & lifts. There is no emergency light in the rooms. We found this out in the middle of the night when the power went off and we were in pitch black. No-one told us about this. The restaurant, bar closes at 7.30pm. So when loadshedding starts at 8pm everyone goes to the lounge to get some light & a drink/coffee, but they are closed. If we had known about any of the above, we would never have booked in there. Absolute disgrace.

My friends and I went to the Breakers Resort from the 28th - 30th November and expected a self catering unit that provided both quality and basic amenities. Unfortunately however, this expectation was far from reality.

With regards to the amenities, these are the major issues that we experienced:

Firstly, our unit was advertised as a 6 sleeper, but in actuality it could only fit four people. The sleeper couch was made for small children as anyone taller than one meter would not fit due to the base of the couch ending far shorter than usual. We contacted reception to enquire about this matter and they simply advised us to use the couch cushions at the end of the sleeper couch to provide support for the legs and feet. This is totally unacceptable as this did not solve the underlying problem and as a result to two people who had to sleep on the sleeper couch were not able to rest comfortably. Over and above this, they don't provide a duvet for the people sleeping on the sleeper couch and reception refused to give us one upon request.

Secondly, the floors in the unit were absolutely disguising and clearly no one bothered to clean them before we arrived. We asked reception to clean the floors, however failed to do so time and time again.

Thirdly, with regards to the kitchen, we only had 5 plates for a 6 person unit, the resort failed to provide us with a dish sponge to clean the plates (we ended up having to buy our very own sponge, on our own dime of course), there was not cutlery holders in the draws to organise the cutlery and the dishes weren't properly cleaned when we first arrived.

Fourthly, the bathrooms are far from luxurious. The one bathroom at the entrance of the unit is so small that you couldn't swing a cat in it. It is soo tiny, yet the cost to stay at the Breakers is so high, this simply doesn't add up.

Fifthly, we wanted to purchase uShaka tickets with the Breakers, however after numerous attempts to try and buy such tickets, we were unsuccessful as the leisure office was always closed. Honestly this is so unprofessional and we just ended up buying them online.

Lastly, the marginal WiFi offered to guests didn't even work throughout our entire trip, so sad!

Therefore, it is safe to assume that I wont be coming back to this resort and I don't recommend anyone else to do the same. There are far better resorts and hotels in the area that are superb and cost the same or less.

What a shame!

I had the wonderful experience of staying here force week with my partner and in-laws. I cannot recommend the Breakers resort enough! The staff are efficient and friendly and our room was spacious and well-equipped with all that we needed. It is a safe resort for children to wander and explore and the restaurant's food is delicious. There is also an inhouse beauty spa and hair salon. Spacious grounds and well-maintained swimming pools for both adults and children. I loved staying here!

Unfortunately have to say my experience with the hairdresser in the Breakers Resort was not a good one. After sending an email specifically asking for a stylist that can give me a consultation that did not materialise. Somebody called and I can only assume that is the owner after sending an email. At first I was impressed about the quick call after my email enquiry. But when I walked into the salon the one person there had no idea what I was booked for. She was certainly not the problem - but something is off about whoever is making the bookings vs what capability is in the salon. The treatment I paid for the stylist had to go get help from the Spa because she was just not coping with everything coming at her in the salon. I feel sorry for the stylist and I hope this review will not result in a retaliation against her. But I will not go back, that is certain.

The resort has a cafe that closes at 6pm , the breakfast offering is pathetic, cold food badly prepared, no management presence. No bar or room service after 6pm.
Lifts are slow and during my stay one was always out of service.
I have been staying at Breakers for more than 20 years, in the last 5 years there has been a steady decline in service and value for money.

This is a private apartment within Breakers.
The room was quite spacious and had all the necessary amenities (Glasses, plates, microwave, fridge etc.)
Lee, the owner continuously kept in touch at the start and end of the stay to make sure everything was good. Much appreciated
The only downside was that the towels are only washed every 3rd day! I understand the need to conserve water but towels need to be washed daily for hygienic purposes.
I would definitely stay here again.

Sorry, I am unable to answer that question as the beach was closed during my stay, due to the flood damage and high level of E.coli in the water due to a burst sewage pipe.

The guided tours are scheduled at 9.00am and 11.00 am I am almost certain its is daily but not too sure. My wife and I did the tour without a tour guide. Its is very safe and lots of guests go on the trail on their own.Hope this helps.
