For an upmarket trendy property not to have emergency lights or a generator for there rooms is rather disappointing. Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights had 4 load shedding sessions including late evening and the hotel had no safety measures in place. Knowing well thee would be regular load shedding the hotel should have placed emergency lights in each room. Staff or also unprofessional and not real care for there guest. I asked to extend my stay at fro t desk Sbu and he never responded to me. Shower waste was blocked and the shower head leaked at the joint in the wall. Management are not around to welcome you. I had just a great welcome at TsogoSun Elangani and the quality unmatched with great quality staff. THE CAPITAL group need to up there game

We stayed at this hotel for one night in 2019 and had to leave very early the next morning. The rooms are super clean and new, the service is generally good, but could be better outside at the pool area. On-site parking in the basement is perfect and the hotel is in a building with plenty of shops and restaurants.

The Pearls apartments are divided into 3 , Pearl Dawn Pearl Breeze and Pearl Sky (I think Sky houses the Capital Hotel)
We stayed in Pearl Dawn on the 11th floor (APARTMENT DAWN BY TOP DESTINATIONS)
It is a 1 bedroom/ studio apartment with a full kitchen which has a washing machine and dryer and a huge bathroom with tub and shower. There is daily housekeeping.
There is a great beach view from the living room.
There is a TV, WiFi, dstv etc
One can use the elevator to the pool side and from the pool area there is another elevator that leads to a gate that leads to the Promenade.
There is the Oceans Mall across the road
Also the Pearls mall with several restaurants plus Dischem etc
Downside I would say is the pillows- but that's a personal preference.
Overall this was a great apartment for my daughter and I , I would stay here again and again.

Zero maintenance going on in some of the units on this property. Stay away everyone, this is suposedly a five star property, we give it two stars. The location is great, but most of the amenities in our unit were not working, the property owners answer to us was " it is what it is". Do not travel to this property you will be let down.

I live in Durban but had to stay over two nights for a business function.
This Hotel is very central in Umhlanga and you can pretty much walk everywhere. The promenade is great for a walk or run outdoors.
The food was excellent during our stay and the conference facilities range from small to large. Catering was great during our sessions as well. Ample parking if you are in your own car.
I have stayed here twice. The first time the room faced away from the ocean and had a poor view. The construction site behind the building. The room was small and it felt like the bedroom was in the kitchen. Avoid these rooms.
The second time I stayed in a double bedroom with a sea view. Much better! No shortcomings. Even a washing machine. You will be very comfortable here for a long stay.
I can certainly recommend a stay here!

We went down to Durban for a family holiday, booked out of our current accommodation because of no Air con as it was very hot. Booked two seemingly superb suites at Pearls of Umhalnga on the Beachfront through SolSuites. Upon arrival noticed the Air conditioner was not working and seems out of order for some time now. The units receives ZERO maintenance on ie: lights, Furniture, window clips, Tumble dryer inoperative, Towel rails broken, not enough glasses for all guests. At this price tag one would expect everything advertised should be there and working.
The book in procedure with the bio-metric is also an issue as only two people per unit is allowed to register. So the unregistered guests depends on registered guests.
Its a pity as the owner/s disregards our unhappiness and claims the units is up to spec therefore following guests would have the same experience.

Stayed here to celebrate my niece & nephew's 21st birthday in January.
Check in was a bit slow. Booked a 4 bedroom apartment & it wasn't ready at 14h00. The Manager said it was still being cleaned & sanatised. He however compensated by allowing us to check out a bit later, which I thought was quite fair.
The sea-views from the balcony & 3 of the bedrooms were incredibly breath-taking. The pool & pool area is absolutely stunning.
Staff were very friendly & efficient. They went out of their way to make the twins birthday special with a special treat for them when they arrived for breakfast. Will definitely recommend this hotel & I can't wait to return.

Good: The Pearls was amazing .....all the facilities. Restuarant Supervisor, I cannot remember her name but she was awesome. She done a better job than the manager....interact with us and could recommended the menu. The Restuarant manager on the other way did not made any contact with us although he saw us many times. What i notice is some staff are too relaxing...no eye contact with guest having their own discussing about parties etc. The security system fantastic.

Bad: Check out time for the lifts can be seen as negative. Lifts full if you dont check out earlier you can miss your flights.

I would not stay at this place again, specifically during the current pandemic. There is a very high risk of infection, since you are force to use a finger print reader to get anywhere. Most other buildings have changed to non-contact bio metrics. This building has not. For example you need to use your finger print to get to your apartment, to the beach and mall. This same reader is used by 1000's of other people with no sanitation happening after.
