Starting with the positive: The enthusiasm, friendly demeanour and helpfulness of the general operations and FOH staff was very welcome. The staff could not be more ready to help guests as best at they were able (remember the latter for later). We stayed in one of the Buffalo Thorn rooms which is exactly what we paid for. It was clean, had all the needed amenities, strong wifi and a good air conditioning unit. The rooms were also well serviced and replenished every day. The only major criticism for the room was that the ceiling could have done with a lick of paint. For the Lodge as a whole the general buildings, design and overall site were well appointed and it was pleasant to have all of the animal, reptile and bird life around. Unfortunately there were several glaring negatives: Firstly, while very willing and helpful, the staff were quite obviously not fully or effectively trained in hospitality operations and guest service. By no fault of theirs, this is a management/operator problem. A small amount of good, experienced and effective training would go a long way to enabling such enthusiastic staff to shine. Also some hands on quality control from management would go a long way in ensuring that the trained staff maintain a high standard. One of the managers quite proudly mentioned that the staff were left up to their own devices to "be able to express themselves", while a good notion... No good without some training and at least a bit more owner/manager/supervisor quality control. Segway on to the root issue, management... In a sentence: somewhat clueless and absent almost always. On check in the manager on duty was not at all aware that the deposit payment had not been received despite our telephonic follow up before leaving on our trip. This is however surprising as there seemed to a general tone of petty money saving focus that we encountered on several occasions during our stay. We were asked to pay cash for ice-creams instead of signing them to the room and were almost inadvertently encouraged NOT to pay a gratuity if we were going to pay it by credit card, citing "increased turnover and tax" as a reason for not paying the staff their deserved gratuity if it was not in cash. Not great for customer service!!! The mind boggles... Of a morning at some stage one of the memebers of management would come into the breakfast room, talk quickly to only a few of the guests, got to reception, have a chat to staff in the BOH areas and then dissappear before the breakfast service was done. We seldom saw any management present during the day and they were not seen for the dinner service at all. To my previous point, a bit more presence would go a long way to ensuring service QA and staff confidence. Lastly, the food. While it was clear that the cook put together the menu and the products well to the best of her ability and her enthusiasm and pride was such a pleasure to behold, it was clear that much more training was needed to get the food up to the standard potential of the lodge. The complement of food was obviously pieced together from a very tight budget, which is all fine but the fact that if one did not rock up to the buffet exactly on the start of meal time you may be disappointed to find very little to no lamb, chicken pie, bacon or potatoes left, much akin to a hostel feeding hall. Surely a slight loosening of ingredient volume shaving would allow the cook more leeway to produce enough food for seconds and allow enough food to not have your guests feeling all "back of the que" should they decide to go to dinner or breakfast a little later than when the proverbial gong is sounded. The lodge has potential as do the staff, most certainly, but there is a need for an improvement at management and or operator level.

Thank you for your informative review. We are pleased that you enjoyed Buffalo Thorn rooms. They are the economy rooms and suited to overnight and budget conscious persons and its great that you found the accommodation clean and comfortable. We do apologize about the apparent management concerns and staff but we had introduced new staff due to some of our previous employees unexpectedly not returning from leave due to covid. The new and enthusiastic staff are performing well now . We hope you may have an opportunity to visit again.

This is a beautiful haven that allows you to get lost in nature. We stayed in the secrets of the forest suite 8. It was extremely private and peaceful. There is a little bit of a walk to the main building but it’s worth it. Choose another room if you’re unable to do the walk. The bathroom is beautiful. Soaking in the tub and watching the zebra walk by is magical. Our service was definitely 5 star from beginning to end. Extremely thoughtful and caring staff. Being a family owned lodge makes this a more personal experience. Susan guided us through the booking and was always quick with her responses. She managed to organise a photographer for us for a small maternity shoot and she is also an excellent reflexologist. I definitely enjoyed having my massage in the comfort of my own room. Sne is such a graceful host. She always saw to our needs and really cared for us during our stay. She also prepared our meat separately and catered halaal on request. The lodge could do with a few luxurious touches. The room definitely needs a heater, gowns and slippers should be available, a cover should be placed over the jacuzzi to avoid leaves falling. Imfolozi park is a 40 minute drive away. Book a game drive early to allow you to join a group so you don’t have to pay for the entire vehicle. Alternatively, you can do a self drive which is also lovely. All in all, a 3 star lodge with 5 star service. We highly appreciate all that was done to make our weekend simply splendid.

Thank you for your lovely review. We are pleased to hear how you enjoyed your stay, and that Susan and Sne were helpful and that you found the service 5 star! We do try our very best. Thank you for the suggestion that gowns and slippers would add a touch of extra luxury. We have had this in mind and we would like to follow through on your suggestion. To cover the jacuzzi has been a challenge that we hope to resolve as our other little "guests" have an uncanny way of interfering with anything unusual. We had to invent a clever way to prevent them from opening the Jacuzzi taps and the cover is next on our list! Thank you once again for your review and suggestions. We do hope you will visit again. !

My wife and I booked very last minute...(on the morning of checkin!) with our two kids (aged 6 & 7). Traveller tip: this beautiful lodge is off the beaten path...try to arrive there in daylight to avoide the stress of trying to find the place after dark. It was an amazing experience from the get-go. Susan who helped us with the booking was one of the friendliest persons that I have met. She helped us with so much more than just the booking...like activities and even suggesting places to stop at for lunch en route! We arrived at the lodge at around 1500. Christelle, our pleasant host, welcomed us after our long drive. She showed us to our room (Secrets of the Forest)...which is literally in the forest! The room is spacious and clean, with massive glass doors on two sides that provide views of the bush. There is also an outside jacuzzi which is a nice touch. The food was amazing. Sne, the chef is a great cook. The meals that we had there were delicious. My kids loved playing with the two friendly doggo's at the lodge. One was just a pup, and the other a senior. Very friendly dogs. There is no TV in the room, nor wifi (or cell coverage!) which is exactly what I wanted. The glass walls were all the viewing we needed...we saw quite a few animals pay our room a visit, which was great. There is wifi at the restaurant for those needing to stay online. I'd recommend this place to travelers who was to escape the busy world. Its a great getaway spot.

Thank you for your review. We are very pleased that you and your lovely children enjoyed your stay. Our new puppy has won many hearts including our own and it was great to see the children having fun with her! Our staff do try their very best to ensure that our guests enjoy their stay and meals. Thank you for letting us know that you appreciated their assistance. The animals, especially the zebra, seem to be inquisitive about each new arrival and we sometimes wonder if they actually enjoy seeing our guests arrive. Secrets of the forest suites were carefully planned to minimize any impact on the forest, and having a sense of the outdoors coming in through the glass is what we hoped to achieve so it's great to know that you enjoyed "touching nature" during your stay. Thank you once again for your lovely review. We hope to see you again.

We had the amazing opportunity to break away as a married couple. We do not often get these opportunities so it is always such a bonus to find such hidden gems as this one. As Rob's wife puts it so humbly "we are prisoners of beauty". Due to the riots, we were unable to travel home as scheduled. Rob was kind enough to offer us accommodation on the house for a couple of nights to allow things to settle. We were grateful as we did did not feel safe to travel on the road as yet and Rob allowing us the space to rest until we felt safe enough to take the road back home. THANK YOU Rob for the kindness and compassion clearly visible in all your dealings. You might wonder why Butterfly Boulevard as the title of this getaway...why not take the enchanted forest walk and find out why ... so magical 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 The added bonus was that we could enjoy more of Ntombhi's delicious food. Ntombhi you are truly one of the family at Leopard walk ... thank you for your beautiful soul keep shining. Forever grateful and honoured to have met such beautiful souls (including Luna) on our journey ❤ Dee & Gert

We just got back from Leopard walk lodge. I love this place. The Lodge is, serene, clean, private and an lots of wild life. we stayed at the secrets of the forest Suite A. The Room was beautiful with the glass view. the fact that there is no T.V in the room makes staying at nature more real. each cottage is private and far from the next. there is a nature trail for anyone that wants to walk around. the Buffet dinner was good and breakfast was your usual English breakfast. If you have a car, take note that there is a few kms of sandy road getting into the lodge however it is not bad and easy for a car to get in and out. it is close to Hluhluwe game reserve, the reptile park and Isimangaliso wetlands park, the false bay Gate. You are also allowed to bring your own snacks and some drinks for your room as they have a bar fridge. The hospitality, all i can say is WOW, i have to first start with, Sne, amazing at what she does. She took care of all our requirements, made us feel welcome and did this all with a smile on her face. The rest of the staff were just as friendly. The owner, made time to chat and share insights into the lodge and the animals. Overall all it was a 5 star service from everyone. 3rd: The external activities, we just did the game drive at Hluhluwe game reserve which Sne booked for us. Our tour was done with UMhluhluwe Safaris. Lee whom was our tour guide, was fantastic and experienced. i would recommend him for all tours, whether private or through the lodge.

We had a wonderful stay at Leopard Walk Lodge. The service was exceptional, the food delicious, and the rooms beautifully kept. It was wonderful to be out in nature, and to be given the flexibility to come and go. We thoroughly enjoyed our bush walk and really value their effort to conserve and protect some of our endangered species, especially the drey and red duikers.
