We booked two rooms for two nights thru the phone and when we at the front desk,the lady (i think she’s new there )wasn’t sure what she doing,totally confused , she only charged us for one room/ then after we corrected her she was looking for calculator...finally we helped her with that, now the card machine not at the desk we have to walk next door where the bar is to made the payment...story continues when she struggled to use card machine & to put total amount...
anyway was new experience for us..this was at protea hotel by Marriott in Empangeni.,but it’s was nice and clean rooms & Parking secure only no lifts so you have to clamp the stairs...

Went for a business lunch with my business partners to discuss a new venture so we were only on the restaurant. Nice quiet environment, overall service was good but the oxtail I had was swimming in oil which really put me off I must say and spoiled an otherwise good afternoon.

Average hotel. Rooms are very small but neat. Staff are friendly. Dinner buffet selection was the smallest that I've ever seen and wasn't very good either. There is plenty of secure parking. I would stay here again but probably eat at one of the take aways close by.

The supper took more than an hour to come, an hour later the waitron came to confirm what I had ordered, that was very frustrating. The room I stayed in had a stuffy smell, there was dust on the side lamp, the toilet pan was leaking. Breakfast was great

I had an excellent stay at the hotel. My room was extra clean and the restaurant where I had breakfast was clean. The staff at the restaurant were amazing, very professional and helpful! The hotel' location is in town surrounded by shopping malls which makes it the best destination!!

A most pleasant, helpful staff, who go the extra mile in providing an exceptionally high standard of service and quality throughout all aspects from Hotel, restaurant and Conference facilities. Reception is excellent, making the booking in a breeze. Rooms are spotless and of a very high standard. Well Done to all. Highly recommended.

the staff including the manager Jason were not welcoming at all. the room is so small u can handly move around this is not 4 leisure i think they must only open during the week. the passages are so hot it feels like you are walk in a volcano.

My wife and I visited the Protea Hotel Empangeni on Saturday 31 May 2014. The receptionist and the Manageress on duty were very welcoming and charming.
The restaurant was equally hospitable and caring.
The food was prepared by Candice with a lot of love and served by Princess very diligently.
I would return to this hotel because of the staff that really make one feel welcome and comfortable

We were very happy with the friendly efficient service at check-in and check-out. The rooms are small but comfortable and clean The beds are very comfortable. The bathroom and shower is spacious. I must say we expected much less from the hotel but we were pleasantly surprised. It is a lovely overnight hotel for business or conference.
The only little problem I had, was the odour from the drains in the bathroom. It does smell like stale water and could be because it was the bottom level (room no 17) , but it would be nice if management could check up on that.
