The atmosphere is lovely, everyone is friendly and the rooms are nice and clean. I would definitely stay there again and would recommend the place to anyone going to Durban on a budget! Thank you so much for the hospitality. It was a great stay.

One of thee best backpackers I've been to in the country by far. Very warm, welcoming and friendly. Cathy and Dean are the best hosts and hostesses and thank you for making me feel at home. Will definitely be coming back again.

Super awesome people and location. Had a view of the ocean from the property. Close enough to the beach. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful. Made new friends as well. I'll be returning there many times!

I booked a private room for my brother for one night on Saturday 3rd September, got charged R550. After he checked in, I called him to check how the private room was. To my dismay, apparently the place was smelling, room dirty with old linen. He said the entire accommodation place was just too dirty. My brother was too tired to look for another accommodation, travelled from Johannesburg since morning.

The gate was also not working, my friend who lives nearby recommended the place because it was near her house. She went to check out the place this morning Sunday 4th when my brother was checking out. She was just as disgusted about the filthiness of this accommodation. Kwa Zulu Natal health inspectors should close them down. It is totally unacceptable. I could have looked up a decent, neat and tidy guest house or Airbnb with that room charge.

Cathy sent an email on Saturday during the day to check whether we are still going ahead with the booking. Why didn't she first check that her place was clean for new guests arriving?

Appalling conditions!!!!! Where can I request a refund?

I will never recommend this place. You would think after COVID -19 pandemic that people have at least learnt about cleanliness, Nope not Aweh Africa Backpackers.....

It seems this establishment prefers English accented people to locally accented people. My friends, who are Xhosa, called and they were fully booked. When I called they were happy to accommodate. Smells like accentism to me.. ask them if your accent is the right fit for their establishment before you book.

Cathy, it looks like you have automated the responses and you don't really inspect your property before guests arrival. The entire place not just the private room I booked was smelling really bad. Old linen in the room too. I could have had a decent guest house or Airbnb for that price.

The pictures are very misleading. Although the people are friendly, the place is not well maintained and dirty! The bed linen has not been changed (there was a used spoon in my bed) and there are dogs sleeping in others peoples bed in the dorm.

Where to start, they moved to a new property. Place was dirty, the bedding is in desperate need of a wash. Carpets within the rooms are filthy. They were Unorganized. The room we stayed in was nothing like it was advertised on air bnb. I actually slept on top of my clothes and checked into a hotel first thing in the morning. Some of the toilets had no doors. Kitchen was overflowing with dirty dishes. Had dog poo on the floor. The place smells bad. I don't know how anyone can rate this 5 stars. Backpackers or not. This place is a health hazard.

After booking a private room at Aweh because our friends were also staying at the establishment we were horrified on arrival. They had recently ( within the last 2 weeks) moved to a new location! Upon arrival we were greeted by fresh dog poo right outside the door to our room on the carpet. The whole house smelt like dog pee and poo. The house was very unclean and was not at all what we had expected after viewing the photos online and having had prior communication with the manager. The bathrooms were disgusting, the communal kitchen was overflowing with unwashed plates, open containers of food of counter etc. I realise this is a backpackers and have stayed in many backpackers before but this one took the cake. I have never wanted to get out of a place so quickly. Overpriced for what it is, disgustingly dirty and a true health hazard! Do not stay here if you can avoid it! Plenty of other places to put your head down for a night or 2. Not worth it!
